tbh we've had 4 managers and non of them have really managed to work within the strategy the club have...there is no point keep swapping managers when it's obvious the problem lays elsewhere...

The problem has to be the strategy (unfortunately). Although it's the only strategy/business model we can have.

Based on what I saw in midweek Lee Johnson would be worth a shot. No money but has got a young team with incredible talent. Add in the likes of Butterfield, scannell, lynch and wells and we could be really exciting. Also rate Edinburgh at Gillingham too.

The problem has to be the strategy (unfortunately). Although it's the only strategy/business model we can have. football is a business we know this.. a very 'safe' business strategy does not have to be reflected in the actual playing strategy.. the business model may be working in terms of the debt etc, the same tactis on the field are not.. only have two strikers in the first team picture simply does not mean they are the only 2 players in the opposition half most of the time.. we have a few who can definitely run with the ball but if the are constantly left on their own its not going to work.. we defended ok on saturday but still managed to give away a shit goal, so it sounds cliched but hadn't we better equalise first? give ourselves a better chance of a result.. changing managers might work , sticking with one who simply wont change his approach probably wont. new manager/same manager if we continue with these tactics wont make any difference..

The selection of the players looks correct to me. When your first team 11 are unable to get the ball in the net because they are stood in the wrong place, changing formation is going to make very little difference.
We could buy/have the best winger in the world at the moment but I could guarantee that if he got to the edge of the area for a cross, there wouldn't be no-one running at the back post, no one running to the penalty spot, no-one without a marker in the area and no-one at the edge of the box.
Professional footballers should know or attempt things like this - I don't see that as the responsibility of the manager. I think we have a team of players who are unable to read the game very well and a manager can do very little to affect that.

watching tommy smith run 30 yards forward into space, then stopping and turning back is a key indicator of the tactics we employ..
watching Butterfield and Hogg get the ball in space in the middle and then almost immediately looking to play it sideways or to a player wide is another..
the main and worst giveaway is how many times a wide player runs with the ball in their half with absolutely no support..
crossing the ball into a box that is continually full of opposition shirts with just one town shirt or 2 at the very best is not, on percentages alone, going to work very often.

Give Powell some more time but if no turn around in fortunes Hasselbaink would be awesome.

the front 2 are isolated. I'd say our formation is an unmitigated disaster.

Wells is very very over rated First touch of a sumo.

Is Powell going to change tactics though? He's been here twelve months now and apart from a few games at the end of last season when there was nowt to play for, he's kept up with over cautious approach to games which simply doesn't work. If we'd strengthened the back four to the point where they could be relied on to defend, we could then play much more in the opposition half but we haven't done and so are having to play two defensive midfielders in the hope we can keep the score down.

Chris Powell has now had a full'season' with town as manager - 46 games...
Won 12 Drawn 17 Lost 17 Points 53
win percentage 26%
At Charlton he was manager for 161 games and had a win percentage of 41%
He is not a bad manager all of a sudden, it's obviously the constraints he is working under at Huddersfield Town..
Simon Grayson had win percentages of -
Blackpool (160 games) 37% Leeds (169 games) 50% Preston (140 games) 51%
and Town ? 49 games 35%
is he a bad manager ??
Mark Robins has 298 games as manager at 4 other clubs...his win percentage is 39% (even with Scunny in those figures)
at Town his win percentage was ..34%
So that's 3 successive managers who's career average wins have dropped at Town... Coincidence...??
Lee Clark had 178 games as our manager and acheived a win % of 49% ...but that was entirely in League One when Dean was throwing money at it...
So I reiterate, there is no point in sacking the manager while the restaints put on them hinder their effectiveness..because looking at the above stats tells me whichever manager we bring in doesn't really make any difference.

I was looking to see where your TRANSFERS thread went ( not your best moment ! ) but then stumbled upon this. This thread was quite prophetic as opposed to pathetic ! The opening post deserves to be seen again ! I wonder how many were quietly thinking, I know who we need that bloke who's number 2 at Borussia Dortmund. 10 weeks later, and who rocks up ? Unbelievable !
