Well I suppose it depends on whether you buy in to the long term vision, and accept that the clubs plan is working (which it is) or lose your nerve and demand it happens sooner. Not impatient at all. I'd love to give all the young lads a few games and see them hold their own. It just stands out to me that the 'prospects' we are buying are no longer first team players who just need a chance to show their quality and develop, they need time in the reserves and are (so it seems) not up to 1st team standard as yet. But we've progressed year on year so what do you know?

shambolic performance? You really haven't got a clue have you lad. The first half was thats nonsense, it really is. If you think that was in any way, shape or form, even close to being anything like shambolic, then you either have no idea what the word means or have such a stupendously high expectation level of this team that your entire football experience up to this point is watching Brazil 1970. We were playing a recently relegated prem team full of players worth vast amounts and we nullified them, worked extremely hard to a man, dominated the middle of the park, looked solid at the back and edged the half. And that equals shambolic ? Jesus H christ! This board is becoming increasingly shambolic though.

There is no way that was shambolic.
It was an entertaining match, some good football on display.
We have a good squad in my opinion, a squad I believe that is capable of more than we are currently seeing.
We most definitely have Championship level quality of Players. Okay, perhaps there is room for a quality addition or two, no overhaul required though.
I believe we should have won the match, had we 'gambled' a little.

We are still worse off than after 5 games last season. The only area better is the goals conceded column. But unless Town scores more than the opposition then goals conceded is a rather meaningless statistic.
The players we have put out have done a lousy job of scoring so far, 3 goals in 5 games is utter rubbish.
Others have said Powell should take more risks and I agree. We know that there will be at least one defensive error per game which will probably lead to a goal against, it follows that the players must simply SCORE MORE GOALS.

there were a lot of positives from yesterday we were the better side lynch did a terrific job on 15million Austin. we even used subs with decent time remaining and these were attacking players with pace to burn so to concede a late goal was extremely disappointing. our weaknesses are our full backs and miller - a new target man for wells to feed off would be lovely. I'm hoping that Davidson will come good as for smith I think his confidence is low and maybe cranie should play right back

That's great and we've got a fine record of developing prospects...in our first team. However, tying up our small transfer budget on players who rarely make it onto the pitch or are loaned out is not really helping at the minute. There is a balance to be made between building for the future and investing in the current team. We paid a transfer fee for 7 of today's 18 man squad. Surely if we have money to spend it sure strengthen the 11 men we start with first and foremost. Well I suppose it depends on whether you buy in to the long term vision, and accept that the clubs plan is working (which it is) or lose your nerve and demand it happens sooner. I understand this is part of another thread BUT what long term plan ?we appear to spend £4m a year on the academy that produces nothing,we then buy up and coming young talent ( which stops our own youngsters getting in the team if they were ever good enough) we then sell them on for a profit leaving us treading water. This does not appear a very good plan to me and it also sends out a signal to the likes of JB and SS that if they want to win something and improve they will have to go to a team with more ambition.

Yes, town defended well, but there was zero movement when we had the ball and as a result very little passing or threat for QPR. There has to be a compromise between 'nullifying' and actually trying to cause problems yourself. Perhaps if town hadn't given QPR a ridiculous amount of respect in the first half, they may well have ended up with a goal themselves. One shot on target all game is worrying, especially considering we were the home side.

Looking at the squad and hearing CP say we have a small squad it's hard to understand why with a small squad we don't invest in better players. In the summer it was obvious we needed a new central defender, new left back and a replacment for JV. What was also blindingly obvious was that Miller is not good enough and Smith is not good enough so out of the most glaringly obvious needs to strengthen with 5 quality players in the above areas we have filled just one of the problem positions WHY? Not really sure I agree, we need a striker or 2 and a centre half for sure but if the likes of Cranie (who was very good yesterday), Carayol, Lolley, Dempsey, Huwes (now), Hammill and Vaughan (still here) are available, yet didn't start yesterday I think that suggests we have a decent sized, capable squad with good players on paper.

Do you not think theres any possibility QPR were poor because we made them look poor?? Is that not possible?? Yes we had nothing in the final third and couldn't work their keeper and that clearly needs to improve, but Ive seen plenty of shambolic crap from Town over the past 35 years and yesterday doesn't even come close to being anything of the sort. What is it with people on here. Such a bunch of drama queens! We can't just be toothless or maybe poor in certain parts- we have to be 'diabolical' or 'shambolic' and fall into an orgy of blubbering tantrums and self-loathing. Melodramatic bullshit is what it is.

That was in no way a shambolic performance. We looked very good for most part but we just lacked any attacking instinct. Calling it shambolic is a massive injustice.
I also want to add that Smith had a much better game against QPR and the criticism of him in this instance is also unjustified. I'll tell it as it is and against Brighton he was poor but those criticising him for yesterday mustn't have gone to the game.

Was the defence better because QPR didn't really come to attack though ?
it does look like a striker is priority now though.

That has to be in large part down to Hogg and Whitehead who were excellent but Lynch was also very good which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned. What I don't get about this site is that you have to be in one of two camps. Either a happy clapper or a moaning bastard. Why can't folk lose their agendas and say it as it is?? We played well yesterday but I feel we were too negative in our approach and due to that never looked to win the game. That is a balanced reflection and I wish more people on hee gave a balanced view.

shambolic performance? You really haven't got a clue have you lad. You have you opinion and it is different to mine so what. Do I say you have not a clue? What I saw was shambolic. Not just from Town but QPR also. Very true... the only trouble is, he's right and you're not.

If that was shambles god knows what adjectives he would have to dig up to describe some of the dross we've had to put up with in the last 50 years

That's good to hear Sepp. I agree with your 2nd point, there can't seem to be a debate with different opinions being aired without someone abusing the other. I can see faults in Powell but I can see the difficulties he is facing too. I can also see positives in our transfers but mistakes in spending money on Hiwula then loaning him out, especially when the first team needed strengthening here and now. Just genuine opinions.

Melodramatic bullshit is what it is. Alright alright to say we were shambolic overall was a bit over the top, we kept QPR out and defended well in the first half (even Hudson was solid). In spite of this, we were very poor when we had the ball. Whereas people can be drama queens (evidently including me), I also think some people need to get out of this Chris Powell induced culture of being content at neutralising sides for most of the game and then rather surprisingly, finding we've come away with neither a point or indeed nothing at all. Negative doesn't even begin to cut it. P.s. did you go to to the Notts County game? A team 2 leagues below not only went away from home and 'made us look poor', they also played with a bit of positivity, ,movement and confidence. This is all I am asking for Town to do against other sides in their league. And before you start on about how amazing QPR are in terms of players, we were exactly the same against Blackburn and they were shite.

Sadly i did go to the Notts county game. County weren't as good as they were portrayed on here and poor as we were, Town weren't as bad. A cracking finish did for us and their keeper had a storming game with several top saves. But we deservedly lost against a side we should be beating quite comfortably.
I agree with what you say. Powell is over cautious. That was his reputation at Charlton in this division, so its no surprise hes the same here. I don't like having 2 defensive minded central midfielders playing together. Its too much . Hogg or Whitehead but not both ( Hogg IMO ). When Huws is available that might change. We need Scannell fully fit and we need more from our front men.
At the moment we are close to winning tight games. But not close enough. Yesterday I thought we were actually very good on the ball in terms of circulating it around the pitch and retaining possession. Where we were poor was the crucial bit though where its hardest- in the final third. Its needs work definitely, but we're not a million miles away IMO.
