With the right manager, the right players, the right formation, the right tactics and a big home crowd in support, winning home games is easy. Look at Liverpool and Chelsea - it's easy when you know how.

You can be smart but if we're to stay up we're going to have to start winning games, that's a given. Stone cold fact.
No one says it will be easy.
What Liverpool & Chelsea do in their league will have no bearing on us.

Look at Liverpool and Chelsea - it's easy when you know how. Whilst I appreciate you ares being tongue in cheek, there is more than a grain of truth in the old mantra of 'we should be winning our home games' and today was no different. We don't always look like the home team sometimes, we very rarely grab the game by the balls, today was crying out for it but we didn't.

As the title of the thread says, yes we should or at least some of them. Eight under Powell so far isn't great and despite the sarcasm linked to this thread with the reference to Liverpool & Chelsea defeats today, you can bet Hoyle isn't too pleased with things as they stand. Powell better get his act together soon or he'll be finding himself on the scrap heap for a second time in his short managerial career.

Football has changed. There were 11 games in the Championship today and 9 away wins. Whilst that's a big number, the trend has been there for some time, particularly in the top two leagues. Go get your football coupon and make hay....

On that basis it will never happen in that we do not consistently have a big home crowd in support

We perhaps might if we get our subs right!. Wells off, right move as he did nothing yesterday (and I like Wells).
Scannel going off though, my Carlisle supporting friend who has no agenda (unlike my good self!) just turned to me in utter bemusement. He was really impressed with him and saw us winning the match through something created by his industrious attacks down that flank.
Fair play for bringing Carayol and Lolley on who both looked lively but surely a defensive Midfielder should have given way leaving us with Scanz, Carayol, Lolley and Miller.
Carayol providing amo one side, Scanz the other with Lolley and Miller down the middle. Mind you, this attacking approach and going for it and the three points could leave us open to losing the match and being caught on the break. Oh, wait a minute........

To me it was clear Scanz wasn't fully fit. He came off to prevent further damage to his hamstring.

Look at Liverpool and Chelsea - it's easy when you know how. I have no problem with not winning any of our last 4 home games this season. But I think it's concerning that we didnt even look like winning any of them. We look scared to venture out for anything more than a point which seems to epitomise Powell's mentality. Ultimately if we carry on as we are, we will go down, you have to try to win some games, especially at home.

I wonder if CP and his team have overrated our league opponents to date and/or underestimated our own team? Hopefully we should be clearer about where we stand squad-wise after Tuesday.

I think your right. With the likes of Wells, Scannell, Butterfield, Lolley and Carayol (who I thought were both dangerous when they came on yesterday), we should have enough there to give anyone in this league at least something to think about. Powell keeps saying on the radio how good the players are but his tactics/projection onto the team demeanour doesn't seem to reflect that he really thinks this.

I want my money back lots of teams won their home games yesterday across the divisions, Huddersfield Town were not one of them. Lots of away teams won last week, Huddersfield Town were not one of them. We are paying the right manager to get the right formation and tactics and he and his team are failing to achieve this. This is, on many occasions, not down to money its down to attitude and our teams approach to games and the tactics employed during the games at various stages. It is not complicated or mysterious and becomes more blatantly obvious as each game passes us by. Ive been watching for almost 50 years, we cant be Man Utd, its already taken. sarcasm is only the lowest form of wit, if it has no wit in it at all.. you win that prize..

Your Carlisle supporting mate obviously didn't realise Scannell is just getting over a hamstring injury.
By the way Morley, your 'agenda' comes across loud & clear!

Some excitement ahead for us if Lolley and Carayol become regulars in the team - love the way they run at opponents and have no fear about taking them on. Much prefer it to all the ponderous sideways and backwards passing.

I don't expect us to win at home every game, however I think we should expect a little more than 1 shot on target in 93 minutes and us going one upfront with 20 minutes to go.

Fred, im assuming you were at the game Was it a poor display? Did you think that the substitution was one which signalled Powell was going for the win, or happy to consolidate? My take (for what its worth) is that it was a good display against a team who will challenge for top 8 . Though we desperately need at least a front man The substitution took into account that wells was having a shocker, and it led to the most concerted spell of offensive play of the match. I just cant see how powell can be slagged for this

Playing half decent football with zero goal threat won't keep us up. Something has to change quickly either personnel wise or style of play because we could still be playing now and not have scored. It's all very frustrating but I think we've some better players than the football Powell has them playing at the minute. We seem a million miles from the team that played so well against Derby, Ipswich and Watford last season.

I've written a few times since yesterday that if we don't create more we are in threat of being relegated. That's obvious. It's not as black and white as you are making out. The offensive/defensive balance is fine lines and whilst I think Powell hasn't quite got it right I don't think its as black as you are painting. We are obviously in need of forward player/s (don't get me started about Hiwula I thought that was a joke) but we are very competitive in this league and IF we reinvest the alex / (Jacob?) money well we should be fine. I don't think we are playing that bad on yesterdays evidence and interestingly you swerved the question about the subs

That we need a forward was best summed up by the cross Scannell played along the floor in the first half - it rolled right along the 6 yard box and neither striker nor any attacking midfielder were within 5 metres of it
Scannell beat two men and you could see the drag back was coming but no one had the instinct to make a run into the obvious danger area - Wells was on scannells toes and Miller the wrong side of his man. No one from midfield was supporting
It's those fine lines and lack of quality in the box that's costing us at the moment

Maybe we should look at going route 1 to create some goal scoring chances. I've seen every game this season bar Fulham and I would hazard a guess we haven't had 15 shots on target in those games. I can't for the life of me see how the manager would hope to win a game with Miller upfront on his own. Strong rumours suggesting that Sordell is being lined up to sign this week, another striker with a dreadful goal scoring record !!!
