Was very impressed with this lad yesterday, A lot on here had concerns when AS was sold and even insulted this lad saying he wasn't going to be good enough, From what i saw yest no need for a new keeper, This lad is more than good enough, His kicking, His ball release was very quick, dealing with crosses was excellent commanded his box really well. He was unlucky for the goal got left short and tried to cover the cross across the box, Overall though i was very impressed with Murphy and can only get better with more games, Well Done.

Good, I'm pleased to hear it. Of course, many DATM "experts" had written him off before he played a game this season. It'll be interesting to see how many gubbers he lets in this season and compare that with some of Smithies' best. I'm surprised that this hasn't been mentioned but Oggy and KOR were discussing Smithies before the game and Smithies was surprised as anybody that QPR came in for him. He didn't really want to go apparently, but doubling his wage really gave him no option, although I think he was dithering. Incidentally, they were saying that it looks as though Rob Green may not after all be moving to West Ham.

I was one of his doubters but not before I'd seen him play,he was poor against Leeds,Weds, and his game on loan for chesterfield was pretty woeful. However he's done well so far and is proving me wrong hope he keeps it up.

What happens if/when Murphy gets injured? It's a big risk to bring in an untested GK in when we can't defend properly as a team anyway.. It would be like throwing a boy into a bear pit!
We need a reliable understudy before the window closes, someone who's had experience playing for a 1st team.. Simon Eastwood would be a decent shout imo.
If we knew how to keep clean sheets it wouldn't be as worrying bringing in a youngster as cover, but we clearly can't do the basics, like concentrate for 90 mins, so no chance of protecting a young keeper until he finds his feet.

Looks solid and perhaps more of a presence than Smithies? Never seen Allinson, do people think he's good enough yet to be number 2 or even possibly push Murphy?

It was only the same when AS made his debut for Town against Leeds at Elland Road, We have to give these lads a go otherwise there is no point in the academy.

Good OP, plus a top save when clearly unsighted in second half

Throwing an untested GK into a half decent league 1 team is abit different to chucking them into a poor championship side who can't defend to save their lives.. Also Smithies had shown more potential, representing England at all youth levels & part of the U17 winning team against Brazil in the final.

Not disputing any of that, I feel though that we are more than ok in this department and any resources financially will be better psent else where, Having said that we don't even know if we have any more outgoings at the club never mind in comings, Can't wait for this window to close.

It should close a week before the season starts, with the loan window opening a week later.. Stupid rule! Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see another keeper making it through the academy, I just feel in our current predicament it would be detrimental to any development if thrown in with a team that seems to press the panic button at will.. On the other hand we could bring in a former academy product who's since learned his trade throughout the leagues & proved to be a solid understudy at another championship club.. We could sort a part ex with Vaughan to get him off the wage bill aswell.. Let's bring Eastwood back.

Impressed with Murphy yesterday but he hardly had a save to make. Bigger tests will come and hopefully he's up to them - his performance yesterday suggests he will but lets see.

Up to press he's played fine. He didn't have much to do yesterday in all honesty, but he's shown he has ability to make saves in other games. He appears a decent keeper and an able successor to Smithies.
I would also like to see a more experienced second goalie to come in, but I can't see it. Hopefully Allinson will be able to produce the goods if and when called upon. It would certainly be a baptism of fire.

Murphy has done OK since he came in but I thought he flapped a bit at that cross/chip effort from the QPR left when he looked to have palmed it away for the corner which the ref gave as a goal kick.

I prefer Murphy to be honest. He controls the area better and seems to be more communicative. The players appear to like his style as well. Only wish he was 5 years younger.
