I must say.. I'm a happy clapper and understand the sales....but our business IN has been pretty disappointing
I'm all for signing loans but ideally a couple to supplement the core of the team...we've sold 3 key parts of that.. i was expecting a couple of decent permanent signings today
Paterson, for example, would be a good signing....were it a permanent deal... dont really understand signing a young, talented but out of favour player unless its inline with our buying to develop policy? if he does well he'll probably be well out of our price range
It's not even the fact we've not splashed the cash...Individually we've brought in some decent players but the concerning bit is i dont actually see the method in our business... LB aside, a position we obviously needed, i wouldnt have called any of our summer transfers??? Question is if the team is lacking when the window closes, who is to blame, the manager for not strengthening in the right areas or the board?

Before the window we needed a centre back and a striker. After it we still need a centre back and now possibly 2 strikers if Vaughan goes on loan.

I generally come from the same viewpoint as yourself Ritchie but disappointing is an understatement,we've sold our best players and failed to address the areas we were weakest in before the window. Ok, I'll give the club that we signed a LB but apart from that just very very poor.

Pretty much how i see it ritchie........we may be wrong and if so i will be the first to admit it, but a lightweight forward or attacking midfielder wasnt what was needed as our follow up to an injury prone centre mid lad and another lightweight wideman!!! Im just not sure what we are trying to achieve right now because we are selling the young talented lads and theres nothing coming thru.......additionally its difficult to develop and polish future gems in a poor team which permanently struggles. 3 or 4 additions and i think we could have had a really good season .....as it is the summer has seen the heartbeats of last years team exit and not replaced not to mention no addressing of the problem areas.

Could argue we need cover at left back too.

I'm sure Town have had their targets...but sometimes things just don't work out... dean has firm limits he works within, both in selling and buying players. The fact we haven't struck any deals doesn't mean we weren't trying..

Yeah, we need what we needed at the start of the summer plus more besides. As I posted in the transfer thread I've got no problems with the outgoings in the circumstances (maybe Smithies apart if he really was sold against his wishes) but the recruitment.. Dear me. I don't really know what we've been trying to do, nothing much about it makes sense. As best as I can make out we'll certainly be playing with wingers but in practice that'll mean one striker a lot of the time which doesn't suit our most expensive asset and near enough our only remaining goal threat.
I wonder if one or two might look at this summer's business and realise what we've lost in Ross Wilson.

My worry after the window closes is the same as before - where are the goals coming from?

I am a genuinely positive sort of poster but have been concerned by the number of quality players who have left the club in this transfer window . We have admittedly made a tidy profit but at what cost to the future of the club. We may have another loan or two coming in, who knows. Perhaps Powell and the board feel we are strong enough to hold our own in this division with the squad we have. I do not think everything is all doom and gloom and having witnessed the last 3 home games we really do not seem to be too bad at all but with Butterfield leaving and all the uncertainty surrounding Vaughan (will he be back in the first team?) I am a little worried how things will pan out this season.

I was quite relaxed today..expected we'd pull off a couple of cracking signings by close......went out this aft and expected a bit of a flurry when I opened up the OS. But just seeing paterson, who i would probably have been buzzing with signing 6 weeks ago, left me a bit perplexed as to our strategy!

I thought we would spend possibly up to 3 million on some real promising young talent like Byrne, Dack, Hourihane or the lad from shrewsbury. All would have fitted in with the policy of buying young potential to sell later. I appreciate this may sound a lot but we have got virtually 6m from smithies & Butterfield and the transfer market has increased substantially, so the £375k we paid for Coady last year would be nearer a million this year.
Loans were never our strategy.
