Will keep Vaughan occupied on the injury table if anything else. Makes sense. Makes Huddersfield Town sense.

Because what we really need is another striker that doesn't score goals.

I'd be happy with the move - proper target man.
His goalscoring record in the Prem isn't brilliant, it's true, but his one spell in this division saw him score on a regular basis. Experienced, would be a great foil for Nahki, offers something different. Not as aggressive as Grant Holt, probably not as strong as Miller, but still worth a move, I think. Plus, it'd be a talking point and, for me, show a bit of that much vaunted 'ambition': a player who has only ever signed for top-flight teams who, although he's getting on a bit, would still be an asset.

Yeah, was gonna say he actually had a better than 1 in 2 ratio when he briefly played in this division before. However that was in a side that gained 102 points and scored 90 goals so I'm not sure how much we can read extrapolate from that. Plus it was over five years ago and he's getting on now.
Probably would've been a decent signing instead of Miller but having both on the books would make little sense. So it'll probably happen, the way we're going.

Does it?! A mid 30s ageing pro whose goalscoring record is poor and who is often injured? Holt i understood because of the impact he had on others.....ameobi nope!

I can't believe that any footballer would be stupid enough to sign a "pay as you play' contract. What if you're not picked for three or four games? How do you pay the mortgage? Would you sign a 'pay as you do whatever you do' contract? Seriously doubt it, pal!

Ameobi not the sort of player we need. Need someone who can be prolific at this level when playing up front alone in the middle of two widemen cos nahki, Miller or Vaughan sure as hell ain't gonna do it

If, and it's a big 'if', he can keep fit, I can see him being a quality partner for Wells. I actually thought about him when he was first looking to leave Newcastle.
At the same time, I wouldn't want us paying big bucks that could be spent elsewhere and he's also had limited action in recent times.

When DH said the £2m made on the Smithies deal would be put into the tranfer kitty this isn't exactly what I hoped for if I'm honest.
To be fair though, Grant Holt scored only 2 goals in his time here but he managed to change our fortunes around & quickly became abit of a cult hero.. Ameobi could be the one to help turn our fortunes around this season.. You don't get all that experience at top flight level if you don't bring something to the team.
Well that's my piece of positivity in an otherwise underwhelming deadline day.
Hoping our new Pato mk2 tears this league up like he did when he first joined Forest.. This loan could be just what the lad needs!
Oh, abit more positivity slipped out there but I swear that's it!!

Had a chat with the chef in my office's restaurant this morning who is a big Newcastle fan. I mentioned that Ameobi had apparently been trialling with Town and it was looking possible that he'd be signing. A great big smile spread across his face but nothing he said made me think it'd be a good move for Town. Great folk hero with the Geordie fans but way, way past it in his opinion. Can hold up the ball but that's just about it now, apparently. Could work with Wells though, I guess, as with Hanson at City.
