Supported Town since 1965 and seen Town over 800 times but didn't see a single game 79-80 season! Just my luck! I was living in New Jersey at the time and never came back home that season. The local Sunday paper at that time, the Philadelphia Enquirer, would list the English football results most weeks and I can remember as clear as if it was yesterday picking up the paper and seeing Town had beaten Port Vale 7-1! Town were finally on their way back ..... and I damn well missed it!

I think you're right Charlie, think this will be a well attended do, a big generation of supporters look back on the Buxton days quite fondly... I think the entry price should include a free Dave Sutton wig as well... We probably used to have a pop at the daft barnets back then, not realising the generations to come who would take football barnets onto a totally different scale of ...

Town were finally on their way back ..... and I damn well missed it! I saw every game home and away. Happy days. The best thing was the away support, thousands in the bottom tier and we often out-sang or outnumbered the home support. In 2005 the club had a 25 year reunion dinner. I attended but (with the exception of Brian Stanton and Fred Robinson) the players just wanted to party amongst themselves. Amidst all the speeches and back-slapping the fans were not mentioned once, most disappointing.

The 2005 do was organised by the stadium and not the football club. Different era as many people know only too well. This time the club is taking hold of things and firmly intend to put the record straight, believe me

last time we could sing 'bring on the champions'.... That used to be one of the highlights for a giddy 10 year old, the anticipation every home game was superb

I seem to remember this was the season when we got turned over by Halifax Town at the shay . Those were the days when we stood behind the shay speedway end fence, and a far cry from the ground we see today. We then went to Doncaster on a freezing cold Saturday in the next match ,and seem to remember Kindon scoring from a tight left angle which gave us the win. The moments that stands out for me was the match that season at Portsmouth when he gave their fans shit after scoring that penalty ... His character is greatly missed in todays game. Town fans spent most of the season stood at the far end of the main stand near the open end.

Those were great days. It seemed that that season and the following, we beat a fare few teams 5-0/5-1. No season since, even during the Rubery era, did our performances bring me such pleasure. It wasn't if we were going to win, but by how many. Buxton certainly made silk purses out of a set of journeymen and under-achieving pigs' ears.

That season with 101 goals and the following season when we missed out on a second promotion by 1 place are the best memories I have supporting Town.

My dad introduced to me to the delights of Town in 1963, he stopped going in the early 70's but managed to talk him out of retirement for the top of the table clash home to Portsmouth in October. Both unbeaten at the time, Pompey won easily 3-1. I don't think he ever went again, but other than that and was it Hereford at home(?) a bit later where we lost 0-1, he missed some great football that season.
Could perhaps be renewing hostilities with Walsall next season if we stay up, if not maybe Pompey ( hope not ) !

Was it this promotion that prompted the milk bottles with the town logo on, or was that summat else?
Somewhere I have the numbered brass plaques that they issued to celebrate this and the promotion from the 3rd division.

It was an amazing season, pretty much my first going on my tod as a 15/16 year-old & included my first 'proper' trips away. However, I don't think Kindon's spying mission is or ever was much of a secret
