It really needs no explanation. Players sign for money, but also to be successful. With signings like Löwe it appears that we might be aiming not only to punch above our weight, but as Dean Hoyle has been quoted, "going for it" (next season). Nixon's tweet at the news of this signing was, "Aye aye", in the sense of well that's a bit of a surprise, what are little 'ol Hudders' doing signing Löwe. When Town's transfer targets see that we have signed a left back, who many regard as the best left back in Bundesliga 2, and with the re-branding that the club has implemented, the signing of Löwe might have added benefits. Pretty sure that Nixon tweet is just referring back too his tweet a few week again when he said we had a signed a German on a pre contract obviously noting had been announced though.

I was listening to some German " expert " on the radio yesterday and he thought it was a massive coup that we had got this guy as he had expected him to go bundeslleiga ( spelling?) or the premiership .... Because he didn't cost a fee the likes of marcus will already have him down as a no mark but those in the know know that this is a big signal of intent

For someone to say "aye, aye" and you to proceed to turn that into a story about him disparaging Huddersfield - and this is on Twitter - is one hell of an assumption. I'd suggest that before Nixon heard from his sources that town were signing Löwe a few weeks ago, he would never have heard of him. Let's remember that he is a man who has made a career out of transfer rumours. If he was speaking about anything else, well, it just wouldn't be worth listening.

Löwe ticks a lot of boxes, good age, experience and has the stats to back up the comment about him being the best left back in bundersliga 2. Will be interesting to see how he takes to the championship which im guessing is a step up from the level he's been at with Kaiserslautern although I'm not sure how good bundersliga 2 is so I may be doing it a disservice.

Ah right sorry, I hadnt picked up this might be interpreted as a 'coup' type signing, I just thought we've signed a player from a league that's equivalent to something that straddles bottom half of Championship to top half of league 1. Good value definitely, but doubt footballers are looking at it going, "woah, get me on that train". Similar level to Van La Parra...and it's an area where there's probably really good value if you think you can improve them...move that range up half a league and suddenly you've got a million+ player on your books. Note, there's nothing wrong with this, it's likely an improvement on what we've got, which is the main aim I guess.

I'm happy that it's someone that DW wants in. He has been touted for a while so a good professional relationship already, he knows what he's getting and how to coach him as well.
Plus he's not Davidson.

Whilst on the subject, I was speaking to one radio commentator who is also a Town supporter and he absolutely despises Jeff Stelling, simply because of his remarks following the Lee Clark sacking. I like the guy, he livens up my Saturday afternoon.

Catch up - its already been fully discussed with information on how to type an umlaut on various platforms. Though if for some reason you struggle to manage that, an e after the vowel that should have the umlaut is the standard substitute. So this thread title is technically correct. Well it's a bit of a cheat really - but I hope we sign some more diacritical players in the summer.

Bundesliga is a similar level to here. The top 3 would definitely beat us comfortably and I'd fancy them against the top 6 here. Leipzig would be up there as would Freiburg. Nürnberg would definitely challenge. Because there's no top 6 play-offs it can tail off a bit but most teams have similar budgets with an emphasis on youth, so that makes it competitive. Löwe is quality. He really is. His wages will also be fairly high and added to the length of contract it's a real statement.

Dean will have been doing well to hedge the Euro ahead of expected expenditure - probably hidden in last years accounts.

I would think they were at a lower general level and more common sense. Wonder if his contract is in Euros or Pounds - its been hopping about a bit in 2016.

A pretty obscure signing hopefully he'll turn out to be a revelation. I'm not going to judge individual signings but more the team Wagner builds as a whole for next season.
We needed a left back and we've got one. Hopefully with Lowe signing this position can be crossed off the list of requirements.

Has Deano raised the wages bar by trying to target good out of contract players and then using last season's transfer fees to pay them higher wages? I've quoted WTD here but I'm replying to the others who've quoted me too. His wages will be in GBP from when he signs for us I should imagine. Whether that is paid into his current bank account and then converted to euros I have no idea! He's been the captain at Kaiserslautern for the past two years. Kaiserslautern are an old fashioned traditional club with decent history. They won the title twice in the 90s, once the season after promotion. They've been in the top flight in the not too decent past and finished fourth last season. Budgets in the 2 Bundesliga are generally less than the Championship due to less TV money. They can be around Town's or higher but not the extent of a Wednesday, Boro, Derby, Burnley, Brighton etc. Attendances are similar on average if not slightly higher due to population and cost. Other factors have to be considered in this transfer. A major one will be a relocation fee, which will be included in the signing on fee. The signing on fee may be a fractional percentage of the overall contract. Also, Town may have also agreed to pay any outstanding bonuses in his current contract such as a bonus for not requesting a transfer (even though he is leaving on a free), certain appearance bonuses, etc. Town have beat off competition for this player. He was expected to go to the Bundesliga, to Bremen or Frankfurt (if they stay up). Really strong signing.

However, if he was a target for Bundesliga 1 teams and top Championship teams here, he would have been looking at good wages you'd imagine. He may well be at the very top end of our scale at least. I suspect we are not going to get too many new players in who aren't.

Now that Vaughan is off the books, do we have any other players with a "must be the highest paid player" clauses? I don't think that was the case. The budget used to be set up in a footballing sense. ie there was a wages budget pot for centre halves, strikers, full backs etc. Nahki and Vaughan were top paid. I would think Huddy must take most of the centre half budget! Thinking about it now that Vaughan is off the books - the striker budget pot must be looking very healthy. Doubt we are overspending on Miller and Wells. Move Miller on and we should have sizable wages to release on a new striker - and/or pamper Nahki.
