For years I've driven my trusty car to and from Barnsley and had am coverage all the home, no problem. On sat my dad came and he has DAB in his car . Missed half of Wagners interview with it dropping out over the tops. About as rubbish as Catherine Hannah's presenting skills

Isn't DAB available all over the country though, whereas Radio Leeds Fm/Mw only in West Yorkshire?
Much rather have it so when I drive past jct 22 the radio doesn't just cut out and can listen to commentary wherever I am.
I've not got a Dab radio but would look to get one or a portable one and plug it into radio

It does tend to have a lower coverage area as it's either on or off, unlike FM/AM which will continue but will be less audible until it cuts out completely once you're too far away.

That generic response is classic corporate, management-speak merde de toro . If they're so proud of covering the largest area of all the English BBC local radio stations, why are they named after just one of the conurbations served. Should start one of those e-petition thingies for them to re-brand as BBC West Yorkshire. After all they have BBC Merseyside not BBC Liverpool; BBC West Midlands not BBC Birmingham...
As for the frequency decision, given all the messing about they've had from Beeston and Manningham over the years, maybe it's a case of "the squeaky wheel gets the oil"... I'll be voting with my ears- in a few weeks 5Live and TalkShite will be raving about "surprise package, plucky little Huddersfield" anyway.

I'm gonna get myself a cheap pocket one off E bay. Plug it in the aux port and see how it goes. Can listen to it walking to and from match on Leeds Road as well, as my old faithful FM/MW tranny seems redundant now. My mate has a 61 plate Golf with DAB stereo as optional extra. Back in 2011 when he got the car, DAB was virtually unheard of. He reckoned it was money well spent because If (and that's a big if) the signal is good, it sounds amazing. I've only ever heard Radio 5 and Talk sport in mono, and I must admit it sounds loads better on DAB, but like has already been said, cars with DAB are few and far between, not at all like GJ makes out that its a common feature. Regarding where we find ourselves, on a normal Saturday, yes three teams require 3 comentries on 3 frequencies, so I understand someone had to be put on DAB. Fine. It was last Saturday that annoyed me because we could have been given FM, or MW along with what will be our normal DAB, due to Leeds not playing. Why have Bradford on both? Just did not make sense. Going forward, if we are to be stuck with DAB only, at least let us share MW with Bradford for pre and post match analysis like it has been for the last few year's, as that is what most of us listen to in the car coming/going home from a match. It has worked ok before like that so it could work again. Radio Leeds need to remember that out of the 3, it's only Town who have been loyal and stuck with them through out. Unlike Leeds and Bradford who buggered off and then when it suited came back. Hope sumat gets sorted as I don't think I'm by myself when I say I was lost on Saturday without it.

I have got DAB in my car and at home, most People I know have DAB in their car, am I missing something / the point?. Where to start.... Well maybe the fact that we are 7 pages in and people on here who don't normally kick off seem genuinely upset... So maybe you and your mates aren't as representative of fans as you may think Onto Gareth's responses Re dab quality ... I've had a dab for getting,on 20 years ... Crystal clear on talksport radio 4 etc... Awful awful awful reception for radio leeds, non existent at times... Never had a problem with 774am post match..never .. As for the consultation bit.. Well he's obviously consulted with you and your mates... People are genuinely upset.. They haven't consulted diddly squat that's just a lie isn't it .. As for the new cars bit ... Well I just find that patronising I'm sorry... A total pigs ear of a response imo... A better one might have been " ok looking at t in hindsight I think we have made a bit of a pigs ear of this Ted, I genuinely thought there was more to this thread than solely the band Radio Leeds broadcast on alone. Anyway, I was of the view they have always switched-us around channel wise?. Casing point, I can't get AM at home for matches but have FM and DAB thus when such as an away match I want to listen to has been broadcast AM, I have been scuppered or tried (usually without success) to use my little Sony personal one that has AM & FM. I have just accepted this at the time and given it very little thought as Radio Leeds have a lot of Clubs to cover and just enjoyed when for example I have been able to tune in to FM. I am assuming now that it is only DAB now and no switching-around to such as MW and FM and that is the furore?. Re DAB, I was only being representative of my own situation when stating most People I know have DAB in their cars because they do. The issue seems to be more the journey home and I get that, as listening in to a post-match phone-in, Manager interviews etc is part of the 'fabric' for generations of fans travelling home in a car from a match.

I bought the wife a DAB radio last year which she runs in our kitchen. It doesn't pick up RL but does find BBC Radio Nottingham, and all points thereabouts.

Serious question, what is the service commitment of this radio station?. Is it a Leeds radio station or a Yorkshire one?.
If the latter is the case, then why isn't it called something different that is more relevant to serving the People of Yorkshire and not predominantly Leeds?.

The name Radio Leeds gives the arrogant controllers of that channel permission to consider that it is all about that city. It should be called Radio West Yorkshire and based at Wakefield, the administrative centre. If DAB is as good as Jones says it is, then why aren't Leeds matches confined to it? What pissed them off was Town hammering them last season and 'Get In' walking out in a sulk. Can't have that, so kick Town into the long grass.

And why weren't you shouting it from the rooftops, weeks BEFORE the Brentford game, that we were going to be on DAB, if all us Town fans were going to be so thrilled by it (as your extensive research had told you)?

If the latter is the case, then why isn't it called something different that is more relevant to serving the People of Yorkshire and not predominantly Leeds?. And therein lies the problem ... MT if we had Radio Huddersfield that was a Huddersfield Radio station that 'spread its wings' and served such as Bradford, Halifax, Leeds etc. I would absolutely expect the Radio station to be biased towards Huddersfield Town. Thus my question, if it is a Leeds radio station, then what's the issue with them prioritising Leeds United!!??. if it is a Yorkshire station then the argument is completely different and again, why is it called BBC radio Leeds in that case?. Presumably linked to where there is a BBC studio based perhaps?.

I wrote this in response to morley terriers patronising post on another thread... Gareth Jones has really wound me ( and other town fans it seems ) up It's okay Ted, Nick has saved the day. Please also see the following link that may be of use: www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/dab-car-stereos/sonichi-s100-digital-radio-adaptorYou can send an invoice in to Radio Leeds for them to pay for it (don't say I am not good to you). Morley .. you don't get it ... despite reading page after page you don't get it ... how many more times do people have to tell you dab on local radio is shit ? I've got town player I can listen in my car on the internet if I need .. but that's not the point ...I'm not all about me I care about other people and their woes... the point is town fans attended a match last Saturday and got back in their cars fully and reasonably expecting to drive home accompanied by some post match ... as has been the case year on year for as long as I remember ... Bradford ( who recently dumped RL and let's face it are a pretty poor second best in terms of an attraction ) not only had the most desirable FM frequency .. inexplicably they also had the second most desirable mw frequency .. so bcfc fans returning from their miserable drab inconsequential 0-0 bore draw could channel hop from FM to AM as John (mogadon) Hendrie tried to drum up some excitement .. whereas 70-80% of town fans .. without consultation or notice , were left to listen to pick of the pops .. in terms of local radio this was an outrage of the highest level .. and the guys patronising email has made things worse imo .. he has shown no regard or respect to a key part of his listenership.. I hope he gets what's due the smug prick
