I thought this deserved its own thread.
On the way back our coach passed a pub garden full of reading fans. As we passed, they all made an effort to applaud us sincerely, which was a magnificent show of class. I can only hope I would have been able to do the same in their shoes.
I for one will be hoping they can do it next season, just for that moment alone.

A decent set of fans for sure and it's a horrible way to lose. I'll be interested to watch it back however because I don't think I heard them sing all game. Very quiet.

Kept saying to the wife, I'm not hearing anything but Town fans chanting. Reading fans seem like a decent bunch though. Hope they do well next year.

Jaap Stam has always carried himself with class, even when Fergie ratted him out. Good luck in the future Reading.

4 straight defeats in play off finals is it? However, as that thread showed beforehand the main priority and risk for them is to keep Stam. Remains to be seen whether they will now though.

Agree completely, both before and after the game there was no animosity between the fans in the pubs, the underground and wembley. Everyone chatting and having a laugh, it made the day a much better occasion. I very much doubt if it would have been like that had we played wendies or leeds. You could probably have not even put segregation in today and there would have been no issues. Just a shame all clubs dont have fans like Reading do.

Met some on the train over and they were great. They made some big noise in the penalties, when they scored or we didn't. They were singing pretty noisily in that period when they had a lot of corners, I thought.
Sitting in a restaurant in Covent Garden afterwards, even had a Sheffield Wednesday fan who saw my shirt, come in and congratulate us. I told him to look up DannyG's report, but he wouldn't quite go that far.

Seemed a really good bunch of genuine fans, and I think the game, notwithstanding the odd yellow, was played very well by all upon the field of play

They did'nt have to acknowledge us. They could have put their heads down and got on their way but they did. They went out of their way to come over and say well done. Good luck next season. What a great set of fans who are a credit to their club. It's just how I'd like opposition fans to see us. Hope they succeed next campaign.

An elderly couple of Reading supporters shook my hand outside the ground in congratulations and the fella said some very kind words to my son about remembering big days like this. Can't help but feel some sorrow for them in amongst all the joy I'm feeling. A classy lot, I'll be hoping they do very well next year.

Many hand shakes and pats on the pack after the game from Reading fans.
Really does take alot to do that.
All round good guys, their fans, chairman, El Absi (remember him helping Nahki in the league when injured and Reading were on the attack).
Wish them all the best and hope they can don it this next season.

Saw a woman in a town shirt chanting wankers at an innocent reading family coming out the stadium, couldn't believe my ears, what have they done to cause such animosity after we'd just won? Told the stupid cow to shut the fuck up, embarrassing.

Firstly, fair play to the Reading fans, they were sound and magnanimous but just like all clubs a few let them down I was in The Chapel pub at Marylebone and was forced to front some knob-heads who made to spit at me and wanted to "tap" me (give me a crack). At least 2 kind Reading came over to warn us that "the firm" had come in, looked liked choirboys to me. Anyway, wont let them spoil it for the rest, well done Reading fans.

To a man they all had class, dignity and respect. And were full of genuine best wishes for us for next season. Nothing really between the teams over the season, and whilst we edged the better chances, and the penalties, it was a close game. Good luck to them next season.

Told the stupid cow to shut the fuck up, embarrassing. Without wishing to hijack this thread,I wonder if this is the same female fan that managed to get the 20:05 out of Kings Cross stopped at Newark as we awaited the transport police to remove her from the train? As for the Reading fans, I think they came across as genuine, level headed fans of a team that didn't have pretentions of being more than that. I know Tog was getting a little dig at our near neighbours with the "Class, respect and humility" line but in the end it actually fit rather well with the Reading fans. I said before the game that unfortunately one set of fans would love the day, the other hate it, there was no inbetween. We just happened to be on the right side of that kick of the ball.

To the young Huddersfield fans who thought it hilarious to drop a near full can of beer from 40ft missing my 5 year old's head by inches, and the Huddersfield fan outside after we left, getting in Reading fans faces (with families) and goading them because we lost - Congratulations you have now in in a child's mind put yourselves on a level worse than Leeds! To the rest of you well done, I hope you have a great first season in the premier league and can teach the minority of your fans more grace in defeat than they showed in victory.

Walking back to Wembley Central saw and heard some pissed up prick on his own singing daft stuff to Reading fans. To be fair a lot of Town fans told him to zip it.

I was surrounded by Reading fans on the train back to Oxford. Got chatting to a group of them, one fella was a little bitter about the whole thing, he said something like 'Why would you want to go up anyway? It won't be much fun watching your team lose every week.' I said, well, yeah, but you've had that experience recently, we haven't been to place like Old Trafford or the Emirates, and he agreed that was a decent point. Shook my hand as they got off the train and wished us luck for next season. Obviously disappointed, who wouldn't be, but a good bunch of guys.
