Is Palmer ready for the Prem? Yes, I think he is. He has very quick feet and is a very intelligent player, a little more refined than Brown who is more powerful/direct. With the striker(s) already signed and with one or both of Ince and Burke to come, then Palmer is a better fit. I can't believe our attacking options could be: Depoitre, Mounié, Wells, VLP, Kachunga, Palmer, Ince, Burke and Quaner. With Payne, Scannell, Bunn and Lolley currently on the books as well. Incredible squad we're building. I expect Kachunga and Vlp to go well next year. I wonder if 3 of those last 4 might go?

Mind you, I haven't done a headcount and maybe we'll keep Payne. I think Nahki will probably want to move on anyway now, although I wouldn't mind seeing how he could handle the Prem. Maybe Derby can have him though - 8 Million?

In those play off games his pace & pressing from the front was incredible. If he can sustain those levels and gets his confidence going he could have a very good part to play. I'd also keep scannell as another good tectician with pace he could be useful. Another one who will work for the team when not in possesion. Bunn, Lolley and Payne at championship level at best for me. (Not that there's any disgrace in that but they wouldn't get much game time at all next year imo)

Of the four I could only see Scannell pushing for a place, only because he is more traditional winger who is difficult to get the ball off - would be useful defending a lead late on in a game. Lolley needs a fresh start and probably somewhere else. Payne needs a season on loan to a Championship club for the experience, we may need him back in 12 months time if the worst does happen. Bunn I'd either loan out or let him leave, depending on how long he has left on his contract.

He also has a good song!

Yeah, I hate having to talk like this, because they've all given it a good go for us, even Lolley with his injury problems. I picked out Payne because he's the youngest and might possibly be able to develop to Prem standard.

Real shame that in the season we've just had, Scanz played such a small part mainly due to injury. He's the only one of the ones mentioned I would keep. The rest, imo, aren't good enough although a season long loan in the Championship for Payne where he will play most weeks will do him the power of good.

Bunn and Lolley definitely not good enough though. I think it would be good to let Payne go on loan in the championship for a year and see how he gets on. Although I don't particularly rate Wells - I've also noticed that he does have a tendency to "step up" in big games, against better players - in the final for example. He could be a decent 3rd option up front, though I doubt he'd be too happy with that.

His all round game has improved tons under Wagner. If he can find his finishing boots then he could have an impact next year. I'd be very reluctant to let a fit and pacy Wells go. Plus his value will be low right now. A few goals and hardball working performances and we could sell him for £10M in January or more at end of season. I think Dean will want him to stay too, and I think Wagner rates him.

Showed some intelligent play and great bits of skill

Gotta keep Nakhi. Be brilliant as 3rd choice or something different off the bench. Good work rate is what we need.
Rather have Palmer on his best than Brown, his all round game is better. Really hope his injury hasn't set him back too much and can return to form regardless or whether he plays for us again or not Top lad.

I think there's a few letting sentiment affect the reality of the situation here! Scannell, Lolley, Bunn and Payne have all played their parts to get us here but honestly none of them are prem players. For me, wells is in that bracket too, but he seems to divide opinion.
Decision on Palmer or Brown as much to do with balance of squad as anything else. Brown more likely to arrive late in the box to take a chance (a la Leeds) and Palmer more likely to play a killer pass to set up someone else.

Palmer is signing on loan, Brown off to Brighton. Are Brighton fans currently saying what a great signing he'll be, only for them to say he's not very good and not as good as knockeart when brown comes here instead

I wouldn't want Scannell in the starting 11 in the prem next year. I wouldn't even want him from the bench if we had a full strength squad available tbh. We will need 2 completely different teams next year though. I'd expect Ince and Kachunga to be the wide men in the first 11 but I very much doubt Wagner will want to play them in the cups. Van la Parra, Scannell and Quaner in the cups is fine by me. Van la Parra in the 17 from the bench in the Prem. The others if injury and suspensions pop up. We haven't got an endless amount of money and can't afford to be spending millions on squad players. We will need to make do with some places.

Palmer and Brown are two of the best young players (U21) I've seen in nearly 30 years following Town - Thornley (the on loan version) the other brilliant young player. Literally stand our championship players despite only being 20
We can't loan both due to the rules but frankly I would be delighted if we loaned either KP or IB

Payne was bought for scrapping it out for survival as he's got the right mentality for that. Given how well we started even Payne will have realised he didn't have that top level ability. For his own career he needs to drop down and start banging in the goals again

Absoloutely nothing between Palmer and Brown as footballers and I'd love to see the pair of them back here, looks like we might only get one of them though. Seem like really good characters to have in the squad as well both thoroughly likeable lads.

Wouldn't be as effective in a 2 though. Their midfield is their weakness. Six points for us if they play 2 against our 3 in midfield again.

For his own career he needs to drop down and start banging in the goals again I don't think we know enough about Payne - what he needs is game time. He has some big time skills. We have no need to write him off. He would do well with a loan at somewhere like Barnsley or Sheffield United.

I think it's fair to say that Wells was generally very poor in front of goal last season but he has got it in him to be a good finisher. It's interesting you refer to him as "pacey". I don't think we ever really get to see him use his pace, which is probably testament to the system we play with one man up front. It would be really interesting to see Wells play alongside a Depoitre etc, so he has chance to play "off the shoulder" rather than with his back to goal constantly. Again - I don't particularly rate him, but to be fair, we bought a 5'9 player, who thrived off playing with a giant target man and virtually shoe horned him into a lone striker role, ever since he's been with us.

Must say I'm little surprised to hear folk thinking we should keep Scannell, even just as a squad player. He couldn't make the starting 11 and rarely made the bench in the Championship so I'm struggling to see why DW would think he could at the next level.
