Swearing is currently acceptable on this board, as it is predominantly frequented by adults.
It is not acceptable in certain circumstances, currently dictated by the forum rules. we do not expect this rule to change regardless.
Are you still happy to allow the use of swear words on the forum?
If you choose for them to be banned, we can apply swear filters which will simply change swear words to less aggressive words (chosen by admin)
They are allowed or they are not - no line drawn between certain swear words.
Over to you - 1 week.

Don't think it is so clear cut. Some swearing is ok but some is totally unacceptable .IMO. Democracy will decide

Yup. It's a forum and kids and their parents know especially with it being a football forum, and therefore passions can run high, that there may be swearing.
Just got to be in the right context and not personal

Swearing to me is fine. Abuse towards other posters isn't. There's a difference.

I think if it's directed at an individual by way of a personal insult then that shouldn't be allowed. Saying to someone "stop being a daft bastard" is very different to "you're an absolute c***", you can't just offer a YES/NO poll. Saying that, filtering the latter to read "you're an absolute silly billy" would completely remove the sentiment and make me smile! But you'd have to tell us the filtered words (before and after)!

Most of us grew up on the language of the terraces.
The first words anyone learns in a new language are the swear words. Kids eff and blind in the playground day in day out, and have done since the year dot. The only people ever insulted or threatened by a good curse word are religious nutters and over zealous parents.
Fuck 'em, I say.

Agree - should have made clearer, but that is covered in our forum rules, and non negotiable.

Swearing is fine, it's just a word, directing at others in an attempt to get them mad or upset isn't fine.

If it's in the OED, then it should be allowed provided it's not directed at another poster.

As many other people. I dont mind the odd swear word. After all its an adult forum to discuss football. Such as "The team played fucking shite" or "That Ronaldo we just bought, is the fucking dogs bollocks"
However, if people post personal abuse then it should be some form of temp ban for each insult. Say 7 days- 4 weeks depending on what admins think is best. So things like. "Your wrong because you are a fucking c***" should be a temp ban as we need to keep some form of civility and not let debate fall to petty insults. At the end of the day if someone keeps breaching this unwritten etiquette then I am happy for the Admins to perma-ban people.

Beware the 7 day bans. That's all I will say. Pipes maybe I should pm you this I don't know ... but are you sure you were banned for all that time ? My understanding is that when people aren't on datm their names and details are faded out .. but yours weren't .. people could click on your name and view your posting history etc .. are you sure it wasn't just a glitch or something ? When we had that exchange the other week I said I'd have a word with admins ... but I didn't because before I had chance to you were back on here .. might it be the case that you were "live" all the time ?

I was definitely still banned in December 2016 because that's when Stu (CowshedorDead) unbanned me. I know after the Leeds win, Heff's late goal, I tried to log in with no success. When was that, Feb 2017? That just doesn't make sense to me unless someone has an agenda and is misusing their power. When we had the chat the other week I was 100% under the impression I was still banned. I tried to log in straight after that and boom, I'm back for the final. That's all I know. All I want is that one question answered, 'how did a week end up lasting a season and a half?', and then I move on that last 1% and stop boring everybody.

I've nothing to hide in PMs mate. I've been straight up 100% on this board and that won't change.
If folk are not interested, don't read.
If folk are somehow embarrassed like yesterday, grow the fuck up.
The more public something is, the chance of getting fucked over again is reduced. That's how I see it.
I'm as keen to get answers and move on as everybody else is.

since most swear words used on this forum appear in the latest Oxford English Dictionary, why would they not be acceptable? They are after all a part of the English Language.

I had a couple of incidents on here recently where i was called some pretty strong names and i was not happy about it. Its all context...stick and stones and all that. If the word exists then its fine until used as personal abuse. I am against censorship but people out of line need telling. If they speak to you aggressively and threateningly on here with swear words its surely not on. Just my not so humble opinion....

C-word No. Pretty much all others yes. Call me old fashioned but I still just find it a grotesque word.
Whether swearing is aimed at other people or not is an irrelevance in this thread - it's either acceptable or not. Abusing someone is abusing someone - doesn't matter if it contains swearing or not - even though it usually does!

might just be me but I read posts and the swear words just get blended in..not all that noticeable anymore.. either a good/bad post or one that interests me or does not, swearing or non swearing..
calling each other names, rude or otherwise appears somewhat wasted time on a anonymous posting site..
you cant just be wrong because you are an arsehole, arseholes must be right some of the time and in most cases its an opinion where facts are either presented or 'made up' by both contributors and a decision on right/wrong is still mostly opinionated..
the term 'subhuman' was offered to describe some posters on here, thats more than offensive, imo... worse than the word was its context in that the poster used it to try and defend a position where he believed the other posters were treating certain sections of society as lesser beings??? you see my point?
maybe if he had just called the other posters 'arseholes' it might have been better???

Abusing someone is abusing someone - doesn't matter if it contains swearing or not - even though it usually does! Agree, the C word is the worst. Especially when we know that there are at least 2 Ladies on this forum. Probably many more. All others are fair game in general chat, but aiming obscenities at others is not on. It is a forum and as such other users will have differing views from your own on some topics. It doesn't make them a ******* ******. Discuss why you think they are wrong/right by all means but there is no need to make it personal.
