Brigadier Sir Nils Olav is a king penguin who resides in Edinburgh Zoo, Scotland. He is the mascot and Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian King's Guard. The name 'Nils Olav' and associated ranks have been passed down through three king penguins since 1972 – the current holder is Nils Olav.

On the subject of American presidents, the S in Harry S Truman doesn't stand for anything; it was a tribute to both his grandfathers who had names that began with S. As such, his middle name/initial should not, therefore, have a full stop after it when his name is cited.

Although it seems as though Truman himself used a full stop Whenever I've heard that fact quoted, there's always a mention of the full stop - I wonder if that's why; in effect highlighting that, unusually for American Presidents, he wasn't all that bright.

He was certainly popular though, at least in my experience. I was in a bar in Munich, somewhat recently, and the waiter was called Harry, so we asked him why ... and you can guess the rest. His Mum felt liberated from the N's by the U.S.

One for nervous plane travellers to think about every time they board......
Statistically you have more chance of being kicked to death by a donkey than losing your life in a plane crash. (Time to worry if you get sat next to a donkey on Ryanair)

I came across this one recently. Apparently, research suggests that the pyramids of Egypt were probably built using paid labour, contrary to mythology.
Conversely, the first man-made object to reach space, the V2, relied heavily on slave labour for its construction.

Jeremy Clarksons father-in-law (whom he never met) not only won the VC but was the only Manx man to do so and the only non-posthumous winner from the battle of Arnhem. Single-handedly took on 4 tanks on separate occasions! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Henry_Cain

If someone dropped a penny from the top of the Shard & it hit a pedestrian at ground level, they would at worst only suffer a minor cut & bruising, contrary to conventional wisdom. A penny has a terminal velocity of barely 30mph.

Robots called Sam (semi-automated mason) are already beginning to replace brickies on building sites in the USA, and will arrive in the UK shortly. They can lay up to 3,000 bricks in a day.....6x the human average.
Each robot introduced into US manufacturing has resulted in an average loss of over 6 human jobs.

If you dropped a penny from the top of the Shard it would hit the Shard 47 times on the way down sliding the last 100 metres with a terminal velocity of 8mph.

There's a Russian radio station called UVB-76 that broadcasts a monotonous buzzing toms 24/7 and it has done since 1973. In the background you can occasionally hear people speaking, it's a mystery though as to what it is and what the people in the background are saying.
Spooky

Spooky To be honest, I'd say that's still a step up in entertainment value from Talk Sport. On the subject of radio (and television), if you have old-fashioned sets where you get the 'white noise' between channels, around 1% of what you can see/hear is the 'sound' of the Big Bang.

Some pie facts -
You can get a pie in Barbados for around £2.
You can get a pie in St Lucia for around £1.50
But you can get a pie in Jamaica for only £1 . . . . . . . . . . And that's the pie rates of the Carribbean. Bum Tish

Right, after being doubly wrong, I'm off back to Google, tail between my legs. In fairness, I'd have played the game for about 17 years before I'd have guessed Dundee.
