Lets not forget Newcastle did a job on us last season at our place. Their tactics were spot and we struggle to create any chances at all. I expect a similar game where we have all the ball bit little in the way of chances. We need to move it quickly stretch them as much as possible But with Mounié, Ince and Palmer playing we are miles better up front than last seasons game. If they sit back we will break them down, we've improved since last season and even without injuries and the sending off I'm not sure Newcastle have. They did a really good job keeping spurs at bay until the red card. It's going to be a hard frustrating game but if we get an early goal....

Absolutely no chance of us coming to attack, just won't happen. we'll dig in, play deep and narrow and hope to nick something.
We only have one forward that Rafa rates and when we did actually get the ball off Spurs we lumped it long to him and it came straight back.
We're absolutely desperate for a striker.
And TV Viewers don't see what an absolute horrible bastard Delle Ali is. No excuse for Shelvey being stupid and snidey though.

I understand why Rafa is playing not to get beat against Spurs, but at some point this season he'll have to allow his team to open up and attack the opposition. Sitting deep, defending in numbers and relying on long balls up the pitch will not be good enough to keep you up on its own. You'll have to play some football at some point.

all I know is that we probably need to score three or more (without reply) against Newcastle in order to keep our nearest rivals (Man U) at bay.

I ask because all I ever see from the outside looking in from Newcastle fans is massive praise and adoration, which to me seems wholly based on the calibre of clubs he's managed and winning the CL 12 years ago, rather than what actually happens on the pitch with you guys. I speak as a football 'purist' (I'd much rather we went down playing football and attacking than turning into Burnley/WBA) but every time I watch you guys I'm left disappointed by the style. Yes I realise he's hamstrung by Ashley, and yes you were playing Spurs yesterday with 10 men so discount that, but even last season it always seems very % based, attritional and imo dull - just as Benitez has everywhere else for about 10 years. Always thought you guys liked a maverick, so does the end really justify the means?

Shelvey definitely is an animal What kind of animal though? he looks like a zebra but has the brain power of a demented woodlouse (no disrespect to demented woodlice intended)

Time will tell. I think we need to be boring and dull to stay up this season and build from there, but I do agree that a lot of fans won't accept that for too long.

On occasion he goes over board and loses his head but when he's playing on the edge, he's sensational. About time English players played like that. Nothing wrong with what Alli did yesterday.

For me, the game against Newcastle last season was a pivotal point in our season. I honestly believe if we'd have won that game we'd have won the league. It reminded me a lot of when we played Middlesbough the previous season at the beginning of Wagner reign. Played the better football against teams who dug in and ended up doing a job on us. Make no mistake, the 3 points are even more important now and I for one are well up for getting a bit of revenge after last season at home.

Agreed, it's the same way Rooney used to play when he was at his very best. Unfortunately it seemed to be coached out of him, that's the last thing we want for Alli from an International perspective!

Pochettino was very complimentary about how difficult you were to play and how sitting deep ended up making them play a lot slower than he would have liked. My fear is that we'll end up doing the same and it will be a game in to same ilk to last season where we had all the ball but you countered well and created all the chances. The difference this year could be that we have strikers with presence who will occupy your defence. Last season Nahki worked his balls off for us but against teams that sat deep he didn't cause problems and ended up dropping into midfield giving defenders a free ride. I can't see that happening with Mounie and Depoitre. Rafa will make it into a game of chess. As long as we keep it tight at the back and don't make silly mistakes I would hope we'll have enough going forward to break you down more often than we did last season.

This will be far from a push over! They're a good side (as proved last season when the won the championship!) and we'll need to be at our best to beat them. We need those 3 points though, on paper right now they look for more attainable than they do in the majority of our fixtures.

Newcastle are imo a direct rival in the battle to stay in the premier league. It is in our best interest that they were beaten on Sunday, it would have been better if they had been put to the sword by a higher margin. If Shelvey misses the game next week that can only be a good thing. If Rafa becomes more disillusioned with the lack of signings again good news if he leaves. I wish them luck but not success

With or without Shelvey I think we have enough to beat them, an early goal & their heads will drop.. The atmosphere will be electric on Sunday.

Can't see that being the case, Benitez is one of the few managers who will have an idea of what we're about from last season, and just like last season they'll show us some respect and park the bus away from home.

I will cheer a rearguard defensive effort against great team to the rafters. Then cheer again if they lose.
