There is no way in hell Benitez will set up to attack us. He's just not that type of manager. He hardly ever did it at liverpool so doubt he will do it with a crap Newcastle team. He will do exactly what he did last year, set up to frustrate us, allow us possession, soak it up and hit us on the counter or set piece. Let's hope we just have a little bit more luck than last year against them and get the win!

Don't think there are any easy games in this league, don't think there will be any game in the division this season where any team will have it all their own way. We didn't have it all our own way on Saturday. I know Palace have come in for some stick from their own fans but I didn't think they played so bad, they looked shaky at the back but going forward they were decent.
This game is a target for 3 points though, they will be one of our lower table/relegation rivals so 3 points. I'm looking forward to it already.

Mounié is going to be the key in matches like this where teams will just sit back against us, we can get it wide and put crosses in towards the penalty spot knowing that he's absolutely lethal in the air.

i think he will win penalties, teams will struggle to contain him.

Both Lejeune and Dummett out for the weekend game. And Shelvey.

We don't need luck, we need a better referee than last time.

One thing for sure, Newcastle will be more aggressive than those wimps at Palace were...Might be our turn to face a bit of rough stuff...again.

Shelvey isn't in the same class as Mooy as a player or as a man. After billings coming of age performance and Williams adroit cameo all of a sudden we look strong in midfield. Zanka looks a hell of a centre half and mounie well it just sticks when it goes near him...long long time since that happened.
This will be Sunday's thread but for me we are the clear favourites to stay up out of the promotion winning teams. Better squad, better owners, better manager, momentum, unity and belief.
Don't worry about priority because you'll get another chance to go to the Uniteds and scousers next year.

I know they were play-off games that were important not to lose, but against Wednesday and Reading we made sure we didn't get caught. We might well not push on them to much. I'd be tempted to start VLP instead of Kachunga.

What's your genuine thoughts on Rafa? I ask because all I ever see from the outside looking in from Newcastle fans is massive praise and adoration, which to me seems wholly based on the calibre of clubs he's managed and winning the CL 12 years ago, rather than what actually happens on the pitch with you guys. I speak as a football 'purist' (I'd much rather we went down playing football and attacking than turning into Burnley/WBA) but every time I watch you guys I'm left disappointed by the style. Yes I realise he's hamstrung by Ashley, and yes you were playing Spurs yesterday with 10 men so discount that, but even last season it always seems very % based, attritional and imo dull - just as Benitez has everywhere else for about 10 years. Always thought you guys liked a maverick, so does the end really justify the means? I like him, I like his work ethos, his "no stars" type attitude, but I agree we've been functional and not brilliant and expansive to watch.
Time will tell. I think we need to be boring and dull to stay up this season and build from there, but I do agree that a lot of fans won't accept that for too long.
What's different now to your last stay in the prem though? A workmanlike squad that doesn't score enough goals, have enough possesion or create enough chances. Ashley won't invest nor sell the club on. He said last week Rafa can have whatever revenue the club has- well that's £170M just in Pren bonus cash nevermind shirt sales of 50k crazy loyal Geordies. We got the same and spent £40M+ Straight away. No need for slug to sell any of his illegally earnt slave labour shares is there? Spend the £170 and give a quality manager (which he doesn't deserve) a fighting chance of staying up. I don't see Newcastle developing as a club until that hideous fat slug of a man has sold it or (preferably) dies, by tbh you'll be filling one of those 3 dreaded promotion spots so I'm ok with it for now. I hope you get a change next year though.

They missed 3 absolute gubbers and carved us open for fun more than once. and we missed the Incey chance and the mounie clean through chance.

I must've been at a different game; Benteke failed to connect with a ball across the 6 yard box but there was a defender there that put him off and Lossl pulled off a couple of excellent saves. You should go on that MOTD site where it explains their new stat on 'expected goals'. You'd be surprised on how low the percentage is of chances like that actually going in.

Loftus cheek was a constant threat. Lowe's error in possesion hey had to score from but didn't. Scott Dann has fired over in second half inconceivably so. Don't get me wrong we were awesome and by far the better side BUT as Art pointed out Palace were a genuine threat. How many games did we win comfortably last year but the opposition were are dangerous as Palace. We beat Norwich 3-1 & I think they scored with their only shot of target bloody howson. To say we fairly dominated Palace and best then soundly they were very threatening. I'll be amazed if they're in the relegation places come May with such attacking threat.

I wonder if it is just me but I feel like we have some unfinished business with Newcastle after the game at home last season. We started the better side and feel the game changed when they got given a very soft penalty. Credit to Rafa he set Newcastle up to defend deep and hit us on the counter. However I think we could have over come this and scored, forcing them to play more expansively. As it was the penalty meant they could continue to sit back, absorb our attacks and hit us as we became more exposed at the back as the game went on.
I'd like to see us take revenge for that game.

But if we are counting all those chances, then we surely add: Zanka free header, just wide. Mounié over the bar, from Löwe shot. Ince getting tackled by Ward when through and about to shoot. On top of the other Ince and Mounié chances mentioned earlier.

Good point- and I remember saying to my bro that Zanka is going to score a few his season after that header and the rebound effort I expect Steve to be slotting now he's warmed up! I accept that 6-3 would've been more accurate than 5-3 I originally put. It was one of the most entertaining games I've been too for years, both sides packed with quality. It was joyous but see us taking it to 'em. Palace were always in the game though- they looked vulnerable to our transition attacks-(clearly not bothered to watch ANY of our footage from last season), but I felt they could score 1 or 2 goals at most points of the match. Their link up play-loftus cheek, puncheon, zaha et al was a clear step up from the championships' best such as Fulha. So pleased we got the deserved 3rd and put it to bed.

I think Shelvey got sent off on purpose so he didn't have to play Town again, didn't he say we were the toughest opponents they played last season. I found the quote.... "Who has your best opponent been this season?
I wouldn’t pick out an individual, it‘s more about the teams we have played and Huddersfield are tough. The way they pass the ball, you have just got to stay in the game and then hit them on the counter attack so as a team, probably Huddersfield."www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/elvis-suarez-love-newcastle-jonjo-12747175
