With the new season getting under way and new managers already installed it's going to be fascinating to see who fits in and what influences they have over their new teams. While many eyes will be on Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard settling into their new jobs, I'll be keeping a close eye on Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds (I know, I can hear you lot groaning already!). He seems like a real maverick from what I've read about him so far.

Lampard is going to be very interesting, ideal personality, wealth of experience as a player, will command respect and has very good contacts to advise him (including his uncle) Marco Bielsa is definitely one I want to watch, obvious reasons why when the top managers in the game call him the best manager in the world. And I really want to see how Graham Potter gets on. Amazing work so far and almost Wagner-esque, be interesting to see how he does in a tough league now.

As for Steven Gerrard, well I imagine most will be keeping an eye on him, too; I liked him as a footballer, but haven't got much time for Rangers, so I don't currently quite wish him the same degree of success as I would Lampard for example. Bielsa, yes, everyone likes the right type of maverick - obviously for us it will be difficult to like him unless he shows good humour in an unsuccessful Leeds team. Will keep an eye on him, though, whichever way things transpire.

The Old Firm derbies are going to be good this season with not only the Celtic v Rangers animosity but with the Brendan Rodgers v Steven Gerrard old LFC boys thing. No doubt Brendan will call everything "magnificent" at the post match press conferences while Stevie will be more of a " err, yeah, was fuckin' great like, know warra mean la'"

I'm really looking forward to see how Potter does. gone away earned his stripes in an unknown place and put them on the map. Might trial blaze other young English managers to do the same which can only be a good thing

Yeah, a couple of people have mentioned Graham Potter. That's a good call. After eight years up at the Arctic Circle (imagine that!) he ends up in South Wales. Off to a dream start last weekend and he'll be using some very unorthodox methods to inspire his players on and off the training field.

Gerrard - whining, moaning scouser so far. Am I the only one who thought that kicking an opponent deliberately was a red card, no matter how soft/bad the kick was? The SFA got it wrong by rescinding the red card, all it does is give Gerrard more reason to moan and his players now have licence to kick their opponents.

I'm unlikely to be looking at 3 managers from leagues that we are in.
I might watch the highlights from the Championship sometimes.

This untried German guy at a Yorkshire club could do well, going by their first result. Barnsley could be the team to watch in League 1

I’ve always thought that potter could be a good one to fit in with our ethos and way of going about our business. Admittedly when we were in the championship, but still be good to see how he gets on

A little more than half way through the season so I thought I'd revive this thread as it's always good looking back at previous posts to see who ended up with egg on their face. The managers I originally mentioned as ones to watch are all basically having a good season. Lampard and Gerrard have settled in well and are currently 6th and 3rd in their respective leagues as I write. Bielsa has been very entertaining getting caught up in the spying "scandal" and the amazing press conference he gave afterwards to explain himself. Others mentioned Graham Potter at Swansea who is currently doing fine sitting in 9th place. So no disasters for all of the above. DW disappearing from the radar though has surprised everyone. I think we'd all agree on that.

The best players don't always make the best managers: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/469954363 months and another one bites the dust - won't be watching him then! Bet Villa are relieved they didn't appoint him although to be fair, he took a poison chalice of a job.

So, at the end of another season, which managers can give themselves a pat on the back and which ones can hide away until August pretending the season didn't actually happen for them? Pep Guardiola of course pushes out his chest like a Marvel comic hero, he hasn't done much wrong. His adversaries Klopp, Pochettino, Emery and Sarri all have a grin on their faces having each reached a European final. O.G.Solskjaer is probably wiping the nervous sweat from his brow, thinking he signed that contract just in time before the shit hit the fan. Gerrard north of the border can go off and enjoy his summer hols, his team just needing some fine tuning to catch their arch-rivals. Lampard probably gets the Manager of the Year award from a lot of Town fans and Bielsa is probably having a good lie down with a bag of ice on his head after a huge headache of a season. A certain Mr Potter has taken a step up the career ladder and will be a good one to watch out for next season. As will Nuno Espirito Santo, who's probably got the best name in the league (it sounds like something the Pope would say before breakfast). A fine season for him. Meanwhile, stage left sneaking out the back door or long since disappeared we had: M.Hughes, S.Jakanovic, C.Puel, J.Mourinho, C.Ranieri, C.Hughton and of course the wonderful D.Wagner who has now reinvented himself as a Bundesliga boss, suddenly refreshed from his short break and raring to go. Who would have predicted all that back in August of last year 'eh?

It was nothing more than needing a break (running a mile) from the shite that had collectively been produced. He was always going to jump straight back in. I’d have preferred honesty but that doesn’t happen in football sadly. No real accountability either.

No he was stressed but apparently prepared to work on until May and was so stressed he's now taken an even more stressful job at a bigger club with much bigger expectations
