1976....a knickerbocker glory in Wimpy...75p? 1978....liver and onions with Tony in the Caledonian cafe...80p. The prices were on a board with punch holes and you could move the letters and numbers around. In the cellar were two rooms with pinball, table footy and the first arcade games. 1980....Alassio cafe...moussaka and chips for 99p. Always a couple of flirty, flighty birds serving on. Underneath was the arcade with bell fruits and missile command. 1982...the Frying Pan opposite Johnnys in the Beast Market. Upstairs. Fish, chips, mushy, tea (white with the teabag still in) and white bread with marg....£2. The waitress had tits like a Zeppelin race. 1995...the before 12pm special in the Vulcan...lamb roast, a soup and a pint of light..£2.50!! 2018...steak pie and peas in the private box....no idea of the price...probably £25 What are your memories?

The Caledonian has recently just closed down Oti, it probably looks the same since the last time you went in, with the very same punched hole menu board, everything was with mash or chips.

I used to like a bit of mucky fat on some bread, and in my early childhood I remember going to my Grandmas where she'd send me and my mum down to Mirfield to get some kippers and a rabbit on a Saturday morning. Amazing woman. Lost her husband in a coal mining accident when my mum was 4. With 7 kids to raise, and no welfare state in those days, plus ill health for herself, she'd no option other than to let her sister raise her youngest daughter. If she endured the life she did in our generation she'd have been one of the richest widows in the town.

Circa 1987/88 - White Hart, egg, chips, beans and bread and butter.
Cheese toasties from that snooker club by Kayes around the same time.

If i dont brew leaves i use Liptons tea-bags. Not a tea snob but i know the difference. If i can be arsed i love a tea-pot. Coffe leaves me cold...once a year is enough...Usually in Spain or Italy to blend in
