So...the rules are different comparing the EPL to the EFL. In the EPL, we weren’t allowed more than 17 players over the age of 21 who were none homegrown, in the squad of a max of 25 over-21 aged players....we were right at that limit but the nominated squad did include players like Quaner, Sabiri and Van La Parra so it would have had no real impact if we’d had a desire to bring in some overseas players in January. In the EFL, the significant difference is that every match day squad of 18 HAS to contain a minimum of seven home grown players AND at least one of those must be a player club developed (by Town)...if you don’t name a club developed player then you can only name six subs. As things stand we have >> Billing, Philip Anyanwu* Hamer, Benjamin John Hogg, Jonathan Mooy, Aaron Frank Pritchard, Alex David Smith, Thomas George Grant, Karlan Plus the young lads who broke through (and Jaden Brown)...who I assume are all home grown. Assuming Billing will be gone and quite possibly Mooy (although his value to us has probably grown next season looking at this), I think that pretty much dictates our signing policy this summer OR means we are severely restricted next season in match day squad flexibility. I’d assume/hope Hamer is on the bench as a home grown player...but we still have to find six, and unless they step up as key actual players rather than being development projects, you don’t REALLY want to be forced to make more than one or two of the young lads in a squad unless you really have to....which probably means as things stand, 5 of Hamer, Hogg, Mooy, Pritchard, Smith and Grant named in EVERY matchday squad?? ** We need to sign a couple of homegrown players who are good enough to play regularly, and don’t just bolster the squad **...is my opinion (and if we lose Billing, Mooy and one other homegrown regular, we’re going to struggle unless we sign 3 or 4 homegrowns of good quality). Is Jaden Brown going to be a regular player next season?? See 33.8 onwards >> www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/section-5--fixtures/

Coleman and O'Brien would add to list - would rather have Coleman or Schofield as the back up keeper and look to offload Hamer if possible

I'm also assuming that Hogg will be gone (to Burnley, from my good source) Then again, one should never assume - you make an ass out of u and me

Duhaney, Rowe, Daly, O'Brien, Coleman or Schofield and Brown all seem likely to feature. Looks to me we are planning well.

Please refrain from posting sensible, debatable topics. 😉
It's post season, the time for rabid speculation and nonsense...

But Duhaney, Rowe, Daley and Coleman were in the squads this year - I know none of them look the finished article, but another summer of physical development and playing against 'worse than PL' players will help. I suspect Duahney and Brown will be the back-up full backs and either Coleman or Schofield will be the back-up goalkeeper. Rowe and Daly need to develop some more and may benefit by a loan move until December to a league 1 club, but O'Brien has just played a full season at League 1 level and from all accounts has impressed. I'm expecting him to be pushing for selection, not just being in the squad. A couple, or three, 'homegrown' loans from the PL would also help. Ironically, the way Siewert has said he wants to play, Liverpool could be a good match to get young players from - it could benefit both clubs.

Would it be such a big deal having one less sub on the bench?
