I just love this idea that if your club looks ridiculous youre supposed to just laugh along with it or youre being a baby. I thought the video clip they did was pretty funny. This is just a bit embarrassing. We should have 2 of Paddy Power's turds glued on each players shoulders for the next game so some of you can really piss yourselves at how hilarious we look.

Looking back over the last few years in particular, the club has been lucky with an immense amount of goodwill from the supporters. The chairman and manager Wagner absolutely untouchables, and to some extent despite a shocking managerial start seiwert probably had as high an approval rating as any manager ever has with such a start to their career. Phil Hodgkinson unfortunately doesn't have the history as chairman to fall back on, and that leaves him needing to build trust and approval, his trump card was been picked by deano. This paddy power prank, sniping at datm at Q&A, 2 premier league loans and another foreign player that never arrived.... I think the club at the minute are at risk of sowing fruits, that once picked will leave a sour taste and the fans will turn. I understand that its "bantz", I understand the PR side of it, I'm not sure an older generation does, probably half of the fan base. Working. Class. Club. Think it's time already that in any meeting for strategy, recruitment, PR, anything. That those words are the first item on the agenda and the last. Just out of curiosity, what was said?

Yup... its just not funny, do what they want at the official kit launch on saturday, but I wont be buying a home kit, or infact any with paddy fucking power on!!! Luckily my kids get away with it, so I can buy them one without the branding... if only I could get a supersize kids.

On a slightly related note there are other (Umbro) clubs who sell adult sized shirts with no sponsor. These are marketed as basically ‘under 18’ shirts because of course a 17 year old probably would need an adults size shirt. So Town could do this also (and it would also appeal to adults who don’t want to promote alcohol/gambling for whatever cultural/personal reasons), I guess they don’t want to though.

He made a crack or two about seeing lots of difficult questions on the internet but not hearing too many at the Q&A.
It came across as good natured really.
Edit: Although he might've said more that I missed - the sound on the video was pretty terrible!

In my opinion we live in a world now in which everyone is looking to find someone or something to blame for their own weaknesses. Not everyone is going to turn into a perpetual gambler because we have a betting company as a sponsor.
We also have a brewery company who sponsor the ground but I have never heard any complaints saying this will cause us all to be alcoholics.
Its ridiculous how everyone looks to blame someone else for their own weakness,I am not saying I like what is being done but for goodness sake all you complainers get a life. ( Or get down the bookies after downing 10 pints and put your wage on a 50/1 outsider and then blame everyone else when you loose your money)
Lets move on

Taking gambling out of the equation (OPE was gambling too) and gambling in football is a much bigger debate - I completely disagree and hope we do more smart marketing like this to help build the profile of the club. The reference to age was a sweeping statement - there’ll be some older who love it and some younger who hate it. My more general point was about embracing modern marketing to stay relevant in the world of football. Football is taken far too seriously. Personally I think it’s great that we can laugh at ourselves and our underdog image. I agree the club need to embrace modern marketing but that doesn't have to mean making ourselves a laughing stock, getting into bed with a company known for their lack of respect for the rules and forgetting the principles the club has been built on. I don't post regularly on here but for those that know me know that I'm more than happy to have a laugh at the clubs expense, but only to an extent. For me this has gone too far. A joke kit launch for a few hours is fine but now the FA are involved and rightly the club should be punished for breaking the rules. We've been spoilt with success the last few years but the charity bike rides, walks, breakfast club, fan engagement from the owner, commitment to doing things right etc. meant we could have stayed in League 1 and there's a good number who would still have been more proud of our club than ever before. We're now risking all of that to the extent of breaking FA rules just for a bit of 'modern marketing' exposure. To me that's too far and the huge numbers that also disagree with it prove to me that this was a mistake. Look at Bristol City with their player celebration GIFs, Sunderland with a Netflix documentary, multiple clubs with brilliant one line social media responses that go viral and pick up coverage all over the place. There's so many ways to get this level of coverage without having to stoop to the lows that Paddy Power are forcing us to. I think we can agree to disagree, but to me using moving with the times or modern marketing as an excuse for this isn't right. I'll go first on this thread and happily admit to being wrong, as long as we face no punishment from the FA! Great marketing ploy by PP but I still stand by the fact that if wearing it at Rochdale gets us into hot water with the FA we shouldn't have let it get that far. The shirts are decent, especially the away shirt, but I'm still not a fan of being pedalled by a gambling company!

The FA actually liked the Tweet when the club released the real kit this morning.

I'm far from a 65 year old fan (less than half that age) and I think the whole thing is an embarrassment as well as totally tarnishing the club and what we've stood for since the day Hoyle took over. The changing times of course have to be considered but the club doesn't have to change everything it stands for/stood for just to pander to one demographic. If you think this approach is right for 11 and 12 year old kids then I'd suggest you spend some time looking at the impact gambling has on kids. A lot of which is brought about by the excessive advertising they do. It's not just being sponsored by a gambling firm that I don't agree with though, if anything being sponsored by a gambling firm is something we just have to suck up and hope we can get a better one next time. What I really disagree with is the massive U-turn the club appears to be doing & that is what is really making me lose faith right now. Since the day Dean Hoyle took over we've all been immensely proud of the club as a whole, the way it conducts itself, the work it does in the community, the fan first approach, the charity work and its openness. The club created a charter that defined everything it did. You can see it here - www.htafc.com/club/club-charter/Pretty much everything in that charter has been thrown in the gutter for a bit of extra commercial income. Joke or not, I couldn't care less now. The club has sold itself to something we wouldn't have even dreamt of 6 months ago. Relegation I can accept, it was always going to happen, but if this is our approach going forward then there will be plenty who become disengaged with the club and lose faith in how it is run. Lets hope it's a blip, a simple mistake the club learns from, but if not I worry for the direction the club is going to take. An excellent post. Sums up everything to a tee. But you really should get with the bantz bruv. It's the 21st century grandad. Forget having class and concerns about gambling. It's all about the money, money, money .. Don't give dudes grief, I love em oh by the last century was the 2nd best every

People need to lighten up. It’s football, not a humanitarian disaster. The club has developed and is continuing to develop so far beyond where we were even 3 years ago, financially, commercially, attendances, and on the pitch, all capped off by the huge investment in canalside. Hidgkinson needs to earn his spurs, for sure, but judge him in 12-18 months time. Not now. For me, the glue over the last few years has been Jarvis. How many guys in his position could have stepped up to premier level so successfully. He could go to a much bigger club and massively improve his earnings. He hasn’t. He will continue to add enormous value to the club and it’s efforts on and off the field. If the apR stunt upsets you, welcome to the 21st century...
