My daughter has a friend who was the Director of Football at a major English club.
Here's what he told her:
He said that he was "very upset that we’ve appointed that David Webb guy". He says Webb’s a fraud who doesn’t know what he’s doing.
I hope this is proved wrong but it's very worrying in our current position.

I'll refrain from replying individually to the usual smartarses.🤔
We'll see where we are at the end of the season and I hope I'll be the first to compliment Mr Webb if he seems to have done a good job.

Tad worrying. Surely can’t be worse than the last guy though. If only we’d kept Webber. We’d have Pukki and be in the Prem still.

Huddersfield Town can confirm that David Webb will join the Club as Head of Football Operations on 19 August 2019. Webb will join the Club from Swedish top-flight side Östersunds FK, where he has held the role of Technical Director since October 2018. As the Head of Football Operations, David will work closely with Head Coach Jan Siewert and Head of Recruitment Josh Marsh, reporting to the Board all aspects of the football operation including recruitment, performance, scouting, analysis, sports science, medicine and the Academy. David has experience of different high-level roles at several Premier League clubs, as well as in European football. Two years as Head of Player Recruitment at AFC Bournemouth, when he managed senior recruitment operations and strategy alongside Eddie Howe, preceded a move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, where he was Head of Elite Player Identification for the Under-21 to Under-15 players. Ahead of joining Östersunds FK, Webb worked as a consultant on First Team strategy and players for German Bundesliga side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Spanish La Liga side Real Betis. David started his career in Academy football, coaching at Crystal Palace for three years before taking a similar role at Spurs. He moved into the strategic side of the game in 2007 as a Youth Coordinator at Millwall; a role he occupied whilst consulting for Bayer Leverkusen. He also spent three years as a Performance Scout at Southampton, where he focused on the Under-16s up to and including the First Team. Huddersfield Town Chairman Phil Hodgkinson commented: “I’m very happy that we can welcome David to Huddersfield Town today. I felt it was important that we took our time to get this appointment right and I’m confident that we have. “As Head of Football Operations, David will take the strain off our Head Coach, Jan Siewert, by ensuring that all supporting football departments, including our recruitment operation, run as effectively as they can. This will allow Jan to concentrate on his core duty; ensuring the players are as prepared as possible to go out and win. “David’s track record speaks for itself. He’s held key roles across the top divisions in England, Germany and Spain, and will add real experience, skills and hunger to the Club. “It is important to stress that our Head of Football Operations works alongside the Head Coach here; it is a partnership, not a case of the coach reporting into a Sporting Director. Equally, our excellent Head of Recruitment Josh Marsh will continue to be a key member of the behind-the-scenes team at the Club, as he has been all summer.” Is Jan not sacked or was this statement written on Tuesday or Friday?

Bet he has walked into a right shit storm this morning..... to be fair we aren't to far away from when Powell was incharge. So it's almost opportunity for the perfect storm again if we get someone who's fits the club as we are at them moment. Maybe an experienced overseas manager or a young already relatively successful at their current club english manager.

What do we see in the 'excellent Josh Marsh' Head of Recruitment, if he's responsible for the last summers dross signings he should also be relieved of his duties and have fresh start. WHAT DOES HE ACTUALLY DO!

WHAT DOES HE ACTUALLY DO! I dont actually know but id guess the big money signings like mbenza/diakhaby were more tipoff/agent deals than ones Marsh identified - id think he's more focusing on the grants/koroma/browns - lesser known talents. could be wrong.

WHAT DOES HE ACTUALLY DO! If he identified Grant he’s probably earned his wage until he’s of retirement age. Taking it as a whole though, our transfer business since last summer has been diabolical, even taking the one shining light in KG into the equation. Add £6m for Sobhi, £9m for Diakhaby, £13.5m for Mbenza. That's the best part of £30m for Karlan Grant & a few wastes of wages.

Never mind your balls ups Josh, you managed Grant who is still to be realised yet Grant will go for big money because he's a goalscorer but I don't think he's helping us much at the moment. His touch and hold up play has been abysmal in all 3 games, it was particularly bad against Fulham Cracking header for his goal though

Even so, you'd still expect him to provide an assessment and obtain/validate evidence for the manager. We shouldn't hang him whilst we don't know his precise remit, but there has to be serious questions over his success to date and therefore his suitabilty to be the level he is.
