I’ve just watched it. Truly moving and apart from the fact that Neil Baldwin is remarkable I can’t think of many people who would have done what Lou Macari did.

Not sure I can think of a reason to want Luton in the Championship ahead of Stoke. I can, an hour after the full-time whistle at the Britannia we were still stuck in the car park whereas an hour after the final whistle at Kenilworth Road we were well on our way home! Besides where else can you see a dead rat on the pavement? Pretty much anywhere that there are takeaways, tbh.

Feeling better after that Barnsley look really poor and that walloping must take the wind out of Luton’s sales Good point for you. PNE arent a bad side. Hull and Boro lose tomorrow and it’s happy days. Bring on Weeds on Thursday 😊😊😊

As things stand now we have a 5 point cushion over Barnsley (6 really with current GD), 6 over Luton (7 with GD) and 8 point cushion over Wigan with 15 points to play for.
Another win and I think we’ll be as good as safe.

I think we will both stay up if we get the best out of the 'players' we've both got. Hope Smithy played well - I miss him and we haven't replaced him with anyone as decent... we had Iain Dunne on commentary today on Radio Scum and I remembered a night game at our old ground v Stoke early 90s when he scored an absolute belter - it landed in the top left stanchion... I hope we can renew the rivalry next season in the Championship. Good luck Stoke.

EFL rules clearly state administration means 12 point deduction.

The argument about it's effect on other teams is spurious. Other teams should not take this into account, they should just play the games they have to. The Cowleys have said they don't and I don't think you could use it as an excuse if you got relegated. I have a feeling this may not be simple. If the owners have deliberately created this situation for their own ends, be it a bet or whatever, the EFL have a real problem. The owners have already pulled the plug. The penalty is not necessarily going to affect them. The ones it will hurt are the staff and the supporters. Given the EFL did 'due diligence' only a short time ago when the club was transferred makes them look pretty poor. If they add to that by penalising the staff and supporters a question will be asked as to whose interests they actually work in. Plus the Covid situation is going to make life hard for other clubs as well so hanging Wigan for their foreign owners shenanigans could be seen as making a bad situation worse. I have no idea how this will play out but I do not think it is cut and dried.

From what I've read (I realise it may not be wholly true!) the new owner was the same as the old owner, but within a holding company. The holding company then changed it's majority share holder after the sale was completed. I'm not sure what the EFL could have done to stop this.

No, I don't, but the change of loan arrangements followed by, as I understand it, voluntary liquidation, smacks at something not right. If he EFL really are managing the leagues they should be investigating. If it is a sham, and the EFL just let them do whatever they want and then penalise the club, it makes you wonder what their stewardship actually entails. This may be the first time they actually step up to the plate and support the staff and supporters. I am not confident they will but I am also not sure they won't.

Macari played dour football while at Town but he nearly kept us up, after Bruce fucked off when we were bottom.
And then he managed to get us into the playoffs, in todays money league 1 when we were skint...
So much so we stunk the league out after he was sacked and we were relegated.

Its down to the owner and the deal that gave him control of the ckub , nobody elses fault.

Aye.....we sacked macari and jordan from memory and then appointed the single most inept buffoon ive ever seen as htfc manager.....mick bloody wadsworth. And he was on more money than macari ffs!!!! Monotone half wit who sent fans to sleep never mind the players. Responsible for recruitment on a par with last summer.......bevan, youds, sharp, ashcroft, nat brown as striker! Wonder if he was DOF last year in disguise.....ample proof all the coaching qualifications in the world count for nowt as a manager!!!

They kick back in their chair and let the work mount up on their desk, then after a couple of weeks they stick it all in the recycle bin. There's no way they'll open this expensive can of worms.

At Town, he paid his son out of his own pocket, he footed the bill for some overnight stays and he offered to pay Leon Knights wages to make sure we got him for the season Couple of interesting things about Lou MacarÃ, around the time he left Man U as a player, 1984, he bought a fish n chip shop near the ground, he still owns it to this day and he's earned more income from it than he did in a near 10 year career with them, which included winning the 2nd Division title and scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup Final. After a successful start as a manager with Swindon he left after 5 years to take over at West Ham in 1989, taking over from John Lyall, the Hammers were 87 years old and he was only their 6th ever manager - however he had developed a serious gambling problem and owed thousands to some unsavoury East End characters who quite wanted him to settle his account promptly, or else ! So after just a year Macarà was pleading with his directors to sack him so he could use his pay off to save his neck ! West Ham seemed to get a liking to sacking managers, having had only 5 in the first 89 years ( 1 every 17+ years ) they've had 17 since Macarà in 31 years ( 1 every 21 months ! ) Sobering thought for all fans of any club, West Ham, Huddersfield or whatever - your clubs fate doesn't just depend on having a good board of directors, capable management team and motivated players but it needs them all to be on the straight and narrow with a happy home life. Super Mac is in the history books as an incompetent fool as manager of Town, but he was quality in the same role for Fulham, when presumably he was still happily married and sober, if he still was at Town who knows what could have been ?

You are probably right. The problem with foreign owners who have no regard for the club itself is this will potentially play out many times especially in the current situation. I wonder how long the EFL can just beat the kid for getting poorly. It is the owners who should be held to account when a large part of the problem is their management. The governance of UK football has a pretty poor track record though.
