Got to feel sorry for Izzy Brown; the poor lad just can’t seem to catch an injury break. Just signed for Preston hoping to kickstart his career and…

David Wagner's YB Bern 0-0 v Slovan Bratislava in the CL 2nd qualification round. Tame affair by all accounts, with both teams having just one shot on goal each. Fans will no doubt be hoping for more exciting stuff in the return leg in Bern next week.

I know it's one game but you've got to think if he peaked at Town. I'm gonna go for yes

Even if he peaks in The Alps, it won't be the zenith of his achievements. My guess is that he's hardly going to surpass his achievement of getting Town into the PL. Think even he would be surprised if he did! And one miracle has already happened in Bern...:-)

In fairness he did well to start and faded off. Seems to be an iccuri g theme that. Similar happened at Dortmund II too I believe. He's zero pressure out there and not much limelight as he did with getting us up and trying to maintain it and also at Schalke which is scrutinised even in this country as it dominates BT Sport. I hope it goes well, but its looking as though his career is on a downward trajectory now, which is a shame.

Think schalke were a bit of a basket case to be honest, so will be interesting to see how he goes this time.

I hope it goes well, but its looking as though his career is on a downward trajectory now, which is a shame. On the field, Schalke were doing OK until the Covid break in March 2020 (yes, there were two 0-5 thumpings by Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig just before the season provisionally stopped), but then there was another 0-4 defeat at big rivals Borussia Dortmund when the season restarted in late May and, by that time, he'd lost the dressing room apparently. Chaos club numero uno in the Bundesliga, though, I mean (don't know the current stand) but they were burdened with around 200 million euros in liabilities, and the club could only survive the Corona break at all thanks to a Federal State guarantee. They lost their CFO, and a financial backer, billionaire meat manufacturer Clemens Tönnies (good mate of Putin allegedly), who resigned following massive protests from supporters. I read that supporters were questioning why he'd even started season 2020/21 - and then came that 0-8 v Bayern Munich again. He went the game after that. All that, coupled with a few injuries to key players contributed to his, ultimately, unsuccessful time at Schalke. Not really his fault, but some would argue the Bundesliga "found him out" judging by that horrendous winless run in the end. All in all, his prospects are probably better at YB at the moment. Know what you're saying though, Dortmund II also had initial success with him when he got them into the German 3rd division, only to get relegated the year after. At Town, did well, then effectively relegated under him. And then the Schalke circus. I would argue in all three cases, though, he was facing things beyond his control.

Must admit I'd forgotten about the link initially until a Swiss TV reporter asked DW what he knew about YB and their stadium, to which he immediately laughed and said (shrugging his shoulders almost apologetically) something to the tune of "well, there was that famous game here in 1954". Wonder if the English referee not awarding Hungary that equalizing 3rd goal reinforced the German notion of "British fair play"? :-)

The film is one of those masterpieces of cinema that manages to adequately capture the sporting event, whilst successfully narrating the background stories and peripheral impact on society and taking you on a rollercoaster of emotions at the same time.

Ex-Town reserve Paul Mullin, and L2 top scorer last season with Cambridge United, has just signed a 3-year contract with, wait for it……….
….non-league Wrexham. Them and Stockport County are clearly pushing the boat out to try and rejoin big-boys Sutton United.

Short career, just off the back of the only season so far where he's delivered at League 2 level, Rob Mac seems a very enthusiastic owner eager to throw money around. I'd imagine at worst he'd get a season or two to play above his level and rock back up with a league club after. I don't think the level of some National League clubs is that far off from the bottom half of League 2 regardless. Either way I hope a budget cap comes in at that level, I want to see less Salfords and more Suttons!

Someone not overly blessed with skill, but he had some good moments over 2-3 seasons, and was capable of making things happen when you weren't expecting it. Slowest volley ever from edge of area in off the post at Elland Road when I think it was 1-1 Cross for injury time winner against Derby promotion season Not forgetting the goal at the Etihad which I missed before the inevitable avalanche which I didn't.

Ah, that beautiful goal v Man City in the cup - 23 minutes of speculation that we might just cause a massive upset. Sweet dreams are made of this, and yes, dreams are made to disappear as the big boys keep spending - how much is it now, 100+ million for Kane? Christ Al(fucking)mighty!

Chris Schindler's FC Nürnberg start off with a 0-0 draw v Erzgebirge Aue in the opening fixture of their Bundesliga 2 campaign. Schindy failed to trouble the assistant referee and his substitution board, and sat out the game on the bench.

I wonder if they think he’s not quite up to speed after his injury or if he’s just not first choice, I was surprised when he wasn’t in “die startelf”.

Was thinking the same, but the press were saying he had a minor infection, so could be in next Friday night v Paderborn. Going to be interesting following his and FCN's progress; they've set their season target as somewhere between position 5-8, so keeping expectation levels relatively low. Best bet, really - as I'm sure you know, it's quite a division this year!
