Been through Lockwood many a time and lived to tell the tale. Still call in at The Star Inn once a week, was brought up in Swan Lane and spent many an hour with my grandchildren in Beaumont Park. I go through every day, living in Netherton, and lived to tell the tale š Home of my grandfathers favourite pub when he lived at Big Valley, the Beaumont Arms. Hinchliffes farm shop, a regular visitor.

Really good pub in Lockwood up a Cobbled Street - shoulder of mutton and home to the original Dixonās. Sure Adkins will find some cheap rented property there though!

I'm not from Huddersfield but I believe the town centre is on its arse, 20 years ago Dewsbury lost its M&S and that was the start of a slow lingering death, even the once famous market is now a waste of space. The reason I'm replying to you though Nick is I've seen your waste of money comments in the Canalside thread, you also state the town is dead, if that's true then surely it makes more sense to have state of the art training facilities? Players, Coaches, Managers etc will all be influenced by them, remember LDP slated the toilets and parking while he was here, it's easy as a fan to mock that attitude but it's what the club are up against with modern day players, so players are happy to train here and they can keep their other half happy by shopping in Leeds, Manchester , York and Sheffield all within a short drive in their Range Rover cars, we also have Summer Wine country on the doorstep which helps. The people with the biggest problem are Kirklees Council, Dewsbury town centre is to all intents finished ( I live there ), if it's main town, Huddersfield goes the same way then what ? Most of KMC tax payers aren't on football players wages and don't have the freedoms that disposable income brings, there is hope, Wakefield and Bury are doing OK, Lincoln where the Cowley brothers seem so happy has a nice town centre, and Adkins' last club, Hull the town centre is much improved. All these places have unpleasant districts around them I know but so does everywhere else. The whole country is in a state! You can make town and city centres look prosperous until you're blue in the face but the hard facts are that the slide began 30-40 years ago. Out of town shopping centres began to spring up and ever since the knife for centre outlets has been turned ever so slowly. Internet banking and shopping continues to aid this slow death with banks closing their smaller branches and even some of their bigger ones. Remember when you could go down to your local village branch?? Who has one these days? I remember when there were sometimes 4 banks in surrounding villages around Huddersfield. Then it's no coincidence the largest retailer is internet based. The problem is we want all this! We want our lives to be easier. The concept of having everything at our fingertips. The touch of a button and we've purchased a TV. Delivered next day by a van driver on a zero hours contract from Eastern Europe. Are we all responsible for the way the country operates? I think so. It's a social responsibility for all of us and the end is nowhere in sight. There won't be anything left if it carries on the way we are going. Nobody talks..unless it's via social media. People buried in their phones. Life has simply become boring and people need to wake up. Go to a restaurant and a family of four don't even interact. Kids watch tablets whilst mum and dad monitor facebook or instagram. What chance is there for people to talk when it doesn't happen within the boundaries of family life? Just my opinions really. Oh and before I forget I just want Town to get the right man for the job. Who that is I don't know. There are numbers of managers who are out of work. Adkins could fit that criteria, however something needs to happen to stop the circus show that is going on at the JSS. Being a Town fan has not been much fun for the last year or so. Add agile working, where people work (or doss it off) at home. The irony is we seem to shout out loud how unfriendly it is in London, when it is in fact WAY more social than the North.

Why would they go through Lockwood when they could go over Newsome or up Kilner Bank and through Almondbury Let's be brutally honest, a lot of our town is now a crap hole, not just the town centre.
Especially if you're a player who has lived on the continent, coming to our town will be a real eye opener.
Beautiful areas around it, but badly neglected by central government, local government, and many residents who don't give a flying.... To be fair the likes of Rome, Milan, Barcelona, Manchester, Paris and London have much larger much worse run down areas than Hudds. I highly doubt a footballer cares that there a crapton of pound shops or a handful of beggars in the town centre. Itās not 1988 when youād expect to see half the team out in the White Hart after (before?!) a game. Theyāll come here, buy or rent in a Ā£750k to Ā£1.5m property that would cost them 2 or 3 or 5x as much elsewhere and look at their bank balance and chortle smugly whilst playing Xbox on a big telly. Nandoās deliver.

Talking about juke boxes. Star Inn threepenny bit for one five for a bob (shilling).

The original pre-Python sketch from At Last The 1948 ShowThat's Tim Brooke-Taylor, John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Marty Feldman. The waiter pouring wine in the opening shots is Barry Cryer, ironically, the only Yorkshireman of the lot!

Outside toilet, newspaper on string to wipe our bums, tin bath, .. and as well as free milk our school gave out free cod liver oil capsules to all the pupils, which we all had to take.
