And if they're deep in the brown stuff then shouldn't Derby be in the same boat? And - as I recall - Villa would be if they were still in the EFL; so won't they catch it when they are relegated?

Sounds like its something to do with them putting the sale in the wrong financial year, don't think Derby or Villa will be punished.
More points deducted for Garry Monk, he doesn't half pick his clubs

Hillsboro can only be worth 3 bob at most, it's horrendous. It's only value is for scrap and redevelopment. They'll have an impossible job convincing anyone it's worth £60m.
I'd like to see them made an example of and be relegated to the National League.

Think Birmingham got a 9 point penalty for breaking FFP rules which was what wednesday were trying to avoid by shifting around the date of this sale. If they got that it would leave the massive level on points with us.

The practice of selling your stadium to your owner stinks, and ought to be stopped. If Wednesday are the ones who get the book thrown at them but without them being the first to do it, then morally that seems a bit dubious.
But it'd be hilarious.
If Town finished 21st, and Wednesday finished 22nd because of a points deduction, then from a sporting point-of-view it might seem a bit hollow.
But it'd be hilarious.

I know they are not the first to do it but they are taking the piss.

Meanwhile... Was it PSG and the Qatari Govt who claimed that a 200m euros sponsorship deal was market rate?
Football is corrupt - the authorities will only go after the easy targets unfortunately, because the big guns will have the funds to soak up the legal battle...

33/1 for relegation; if they get at least a 12 point deduction for the financial irregularities, which is probably going to be the minimum they get, it’s a possibility. Worth a couple of quid at least!

There are few very interesting snippets on this story across the 'Price of Football' podcast (very good for anyone who is not familiar). To surmise:
- Investigations are still on-going at Derby and Villa, - There may also be an investigation at Reading (can't be sure on this from memory); - For context, all valuations were internal (rather than independent). Reading valued their land, at a provincial London commuter town, at ~£25m. West Ham sold the land from the former Upton Park for ~£40m. Villa Sold their ground to their chairman, in England's 'second city' for ~£60m. Wednesday and Derby sold their grounds for £60m and £80m respectively.

Over the last 7 games we’ve earned 5 more points than them. We’ve picked up more points in the last 9 games, which I think encompasses the whole of the Cowleys tenure. (I do agree though...for no particular reason I suspect our next 7 or 8 games won’t be anywhere near as productive, as the previous run, and then what happens in and past January is a total mystery...with Wednesday the likelihood is they will maintain their current form give or take a few points, as they aren’t expected to change manager or players etc).

Bonus points for sound financial management...hmmm, you could be onto something. It could incentivise collaboration with FFP. Anyone for buying a season ticket for their own personal urinal to assist FFP gains?* *Bury tried doing something vaguely similar when they sold (yes sold, subject to mortgage, the lot) car park spaces to developers, who could, in return, charge fees for parking. This won't be the first and last ridicoulous shceme as more and more clubs become desperate. You should really listen to that podcast guys, it is really very good.

the worrying thing for Wednesday was that they were posting losses over the 3 years exceeding £50m ! not sure which 3 years they were, but if the 4th year accounts show a large loss (forgetting the ground sale)..then someone is in deep poo poo..the borrowing (debt) will truly be Massive...

That's Bolton territory.... Newcastle were apparently haemorrhaging £500k per week before Mike Ashley took over. That's why they practically operate on pay freeze and have only spent an average of £750k on transfer fees over the last 7 years (I think).

Well we all know nothing much will happen to them, look at QPR, surely the most repugnant club in the Football League who escaped punishment for flouting the rules for years when their owners were "forced" to write off an amount they owed themselves which they were never going to recover anyway.
I genuinely think an example should be made of them and they should be relegated, if for no other reason than the owner's egotistical painting of an entire stand with his name.

Only afew years ago Wednesday fans were giving it both barrels to their local neighbours for finishing 11th in league 1 whilst they were heading to Wembley for their formality game that entitled them to Premier league football after out spending most of the championship. Move on 4 years & Sheff U are 5th in the premier league with Sheff W in MASSIVE financial trouble with a potential big points deduction looming.
I bet Wednesday fans wish they showed some class, humility & respect like their current manager preaches now 😂

They've been absolute cack for longer than I can remember and they seem to think there support is on a par with the big clubs when it's far from it.

You forget that most of Hillsborough is a grade 2 listed building and the charm of the place is worth money, especially the creaky and falling down bits.🤐
