Sam Field, central midfielder from West Brom, has been linked on loan.
Wouldn’t be with an option to buy though, which could render it a pointless signing.
WBA were hoping to loan Field out under Bilic, but they’re just allowing Big Sam to run the rule on him first before officially deciding his next step.
Suspect that would mean CC has had enough of O’Brien underperforming.

Next time, I’ll ask you, a random, if it’s okay to post a transfer RUMOUR on the transfer RUMOUR thread. The permanently offended are alive and kicking this morning.

The irony of you calling something else precious, brilliant! Crikey.

@bigdaddyg now that it’s that time of year, is it possible to pin the Transfer Rumour section or this thread to the top of Talk of the Town? Just so there’s an easy way to navigate here and also shows there’s a new post over here to read.

No rumour, but a player I’d like to see come in is Ben Whiteman at Doncaster Rovers. Been linked before and is carrying on his good form. Goal scoring midfielder and their captain.

Only issue is that he signed a contract in November until 2023 and has expressed how happy he is there. With that in mind, we’d need to put forward a large amount of money to prise him away, I think. Would certainly improve our squad though.

Think he’d be out of our price range unfortunately. I have a Donny mate who says he’s head and shoulders above the rest of the team and it’s only a matter of time before he goes. I believe they turned down a few bids around £1.5m from Barnsley in summer and I can’t see Town spending above £2m right now. But would be a great addition for sure.

Might be a goer if we can offload Pritchard in January. His name has cropped up in the last few windows so hopefully we are monitoring the situation.

It's surely only a matter of time before the league gets postponed again, so not sure how that would/will affect the transfer window and our approach to it in this window

We really do need some reinforcements in January, We are absolutely thread bear. Hopefully the club agree and we'll get some deals done, but I worry they might do the polar opposite. If so, the fans could get a bit grizzly.

Players and staff are getting tested all the time and there's not been many that many cases. We've only had about 4 since we came back in late June / early July

Thats some rumour 5m WOW not sure Town will stretch that much. Surely be a loan.If he was considered a big talent only a couple of years ago can’t see them just selling at 20 unless the bid was extremely substantial. And with town it town it won’t be.Most likely if he comes to us it’s a shop window type deal that we can benefit from in the short term if he’s that good.Only a guess mind but that would seem to make the most sense all round.

Town never over stretch but if Phil as any ambitions he needs too invest in talent hoping for a good return and 5m is not over the top when you think of the money we spent on some players we can dream lol.

Yeh we can.Not sure I’d January the time to show major ambition, think the summer be better time when the out of contract players we don’t want to renew are gone.

Should be the best time trouble is we get gazumped by the big boys who can offer better money if the guys you want are available best do the deal quickly with less competition.

This is clearly an example of people adding 2 and 2 & coming up with 5.... the real story is that we have approached Lincoln to loan Kevin Brazil, son of former Ipswich & Scotland striker, Alan.

I think it’s worth saying and just listened to a similar viewpoint on “ooh to be a” podcast that I don’t think January is the time to go mad in the transfer market.I take the point of some that we are 5 points off the playoffs and that we should show some ambition. However I think considering we look like we will be comfortable mid/low mid table at worst a couple more additions would do. Then with the amount of players out of contract in the summer, some younger players in Edmonds green,Schofield and possibly Daly and Phillips bedded in as well as the foundation laid in terms of style of play the club should look to show that ambition at that point(in the summer) Players like bacuna, diakhaby,Pritchard and possibly Schindler, stearman, elphick and maybe even Campbell I would suspect move on when contracts are up although potentially not all of those. It would be a big job to replace those but I’m sure the club have replacements in mind. Getting promoted(I know it’s extremely unlikely) just right now I think could do more harm that good as ridiculous as that sounds. We weren’t really ready when we went up last time and are only just now starting to level off after what happened. As boring as it sounds I think steady progression and building year on year is what is needed bringing players on whilst adding the odd “championship ready” or “experienced” player.Look to be challenging in and around the playoffs and automatics whilst playing good football and then with a view to when we can make that step to get promoted the squad is in a much better place were we to get there.Brighton were knocking on the door for 3/4 seasons before promotion and although they do struggle(most promoted teams do)they have managed to stay there. Hopefully it’s looking as though could have an enjoyable few years ahead and personally don’t feel like going wild in January is required. Not sure if my opinion will be shared but just feel that’s the way to go.

The only justification for showing some ambition in Jan would be if we are in a considerably better financial position than most other clubs and we are able to take advantage. I dont think having a tilt at promotion this season is necessarily the reason for doing it but if we can get the players we want in place for next season to have a proper go then surely it would make sense to give them 6 months to bed in?
