Our very own Sorba Thomas made his World Cup bow tonight. For the USA, Yunus Musah started. They went to the same high school in Ilford, 4 school years apart.
Has this happened at a World Cup before?

AC Milan is called "Milan" and not Milano because it was founded by an ex-pat Englishman from Nottingham called Herbert Kilpin in 1899. The original title he gave to the club was Milan Football and Cricket Club!

Brian Payne (1937-2013) scored 10 goals for Town juniors against Doncaster Rovers juniors in January 1956 in the Northern Intermediate League. He never played for the first team but made 36 appearances for Gillingham.

With Adam Clayton having signed for Bradford today...l got to thinking ...which players have played for all 3 major West Yorkshire clubs as well as him. Trevor Cherry sets the ball rolling but who else?

In October 1963 Bradford City and Bradford Park Avenue became the first teams from the same city to play each other in all four divisions of the Football League. Park Avenue remain one win ahead of City in the head-to-head meetings, ha ha.
Have there been any others since? I don't know the answer.

Danny Cadamarteri played for Town, Bradford, and Leeds (where he played only one match in the League Cup). Tony Leighton started his career at Leeds, but never made a first team appearance for them. Subsequently he appeared for both Town and Bradford City (after Doncaster and Barnsley).

The 1st FA Cup semi-final held outside London (all at Kennington Oval prior) was at St Johns ground in 1882, aka Fartown rugby ground.........six other FAC Semi-finals were played in Huddersfield all at Leeds Road.

Although the question should have ended "all 3 major West Yorkshire clubs as well as Bradford."

Bradford ( Park Avenue) have their name in brackets for no other reason than many decades ago a girl in the club office sent some documentation to the FA and put the words Park Avenue in brackets for no reason whatsoever. Since then and to this day, the words have been bracketed when they appear in the media. This despite fans of the club periodically attempting to get them removed. source: Jeff my neighbour.. a lifelong Bradford ( Park Avenue) fan

About 55k They are indeed a massive Club Slapps and I was at the match, but it was of course the mighty York City on 9th Match 1938 with an attendance of 58,066. An FA Cup Quarter Final replay which we won 2-1

The original title he gave to the club was Milan Football and Cricket Club! Similarly, Genoa CFC were formed by Englishmen abroad, hence them still carrying the full name Genoa Cricket and Football Club, although I doubt they practice much cricket anymore! It would also explain them using the English name of Genoa, not Genova.

There's loads of teams like that in Europe and South America, some even called the same name as the English team supported by the foreign teams' creator. A lot of them were set up because of the Brit workers that went here there and everywhere.

I have to offer an alternative reason.
The two clubs where often confused . Bradford added ( Park Avenue ) to avoid the confusion with Bradford City .
