Another thread for the Nostalgia Hunters! Seeing as I've already posted a couple of interesting snippets out of these little gems, I thought that I'd create a separate thread where I can add Town-related stuff as it crops up whilst I'm building the website for them. You can visit my website by clicking HERE. Please bear in mind that it's still very much a " work in progress"; as I type, I am only just into uploading details for Volume 3. Here's one to be going on with - some joker's having a laugh by trying to push a team-mate off the bench at the left edge. (FLR Vol 3 #8, 28th September, 1968)

Most of those names are familiar. Young Neil Warnock on the front row.

That “Top Ten” was for the “best looking footballers”. Alan Birchenall though?

One of the most striking things for me whilst looking through these magazines is just how many "older" footballers there were back in the 1960s. Nowadays you're past it at 28, 29, but back then they were still soldiering on well into their 30s and even 40s and I don't just mean in Divisions 3 and 4 either - some very elderly looking 1st Division players on show amongst these pages!

I believe those fans jumping around to celebrate a goal was v Chelsea in the FA Cup on 28 Jan 1967. Chelsea win 2-1 but it was a fantastic game. 36,494 there including my dad, me and my brother all in the cowshed.

No they just looked it. Keith Kettleborough played in my second ever game for Sheffield United. He’d only be about 32 in that Chesterfield photo. Bill Curry - ex Mansfield, Kevin Randall had a great partnership up front with Ernie Moss. EDIT: just checked, I was right, Kettleborough was born in June 1935, making him 33 on that Chesterfield team pic.

Brilliant thread. I loved the League Review in the days when you really got value for money buying a programme.

I have a memory of a concerted effort to get the less than prepossessing Mike Hellawell into the top 10 of good-looking footie players...... think we got him into 7th place! My other memory of Football league review was the centre page spread of Millwall with Eamonn Dunphy (he of Roy Keane biography) kneeling on the front row with his willie hanging out of his shorts. Eee, them were t'days!

AS I've said earlier in the thread, if it's in there I'll come across it at some point. Not sure which year it would have been.

OK, as far as I can see there are three Millwall team groups in the entire series. Here they are, and if you can see anything untoward then you are a better man than I, Gunga Din. 1967/68
1970/71
1973/74

Eamon Dunphy in that first one seems to be having a slight wardrobe malfunction!
Im not sure thats as startling as the size of the bloke's head next to him! Jesus, good luck finding a hat for that noggin!

I also remember either a Scotland team, or a Scottish League team ( not to be confused with a team in the Scottish League), where one of the players was listed under "Queer of The South". Good old FLR.

So it was that 1967/68 one then. As you say, I'd never have noticed if I wasn't looking for it.

Last one from Volume 3. Town in the all blue tops from the Tranmere FAC tie mentioned previously. I recognise Jimmy McGill here, Brian Hill (I think!) and possibly Chris Cattlin. Football League Review, Volume 3 number 27, 8th February 1969

Sheff Weds player John Sissons? Wrong club entirely, I'm afraid. Care to have another guess?
