The impression I get from that video is if some of his teammates could control the ball and finish they might not be at the bottom of the league...Hes perfect for our system Steady on now! He's done ok at Scunny and Derby, but still a fringe player in mid to lower tier football. As I've already posted... a great acquisition if it means Town can get rid of Pritch and Diakhaby... but no great addition to the quality of the squad. Hes miles better than pritchard who has done precisely FUCK ALL since he signed for town.. Much quicker, better passer and doesnt fall over at the slightest knock..

You're preaching to the choir WRT Pritchard.

Wouldn't mind Duane Holmes coming back at all. Decent player and we are short on attacking talent.

Well there must be a limit to how many midget midfielders we need, Snow White would feel at home 😉 If he comes back, will you be Grumpy? I certainly won't be Happy 😉

Amazing to see some of the negativity by fans over this move, a few things to consider;
- He’s 26 which is a great age (no Soccer AM pun intended) - Brings creativity, something we’ve lacked for years and will flourish in an expansive side like we currently are - He’ll be relatively cheap given Derby’s financial position - He was a solid player in the season Derby got to the playoff final - Knows the league, doesn’t need to adapt - Derby fans seem to believe he was much better under Lampard in a central position and has since been out wide, which hasn’t helped
Think we need to get used to the fact we will be signing players that need improvement in areas / a confidence boost / a fresh start. The reason we brought in a coach like Carlos is to start getting the players in that have potential and he can improve, we are not going to be buying players that are massively standing out at this level, they cost far too much.

You don't like him, I get it. Well there must be a limit to how many midget midfielders we need, Snow White would feel at home 😉 It’s rumoured on Sky Sports that we are about to enter the next Subbuteo World Cup.

So long as we don’t have the ‘USA, USA’ chants, I hope he does come back. Must have been a young lad when he left but always looked a skilful player. Who was his last coach? Robins? Powell so maybe CC can work his magic here too. A local lad as well so must be low risk compared to some.

I think one of his last games for us was under Wagner. Hope to God it stays that way.

Yep. Was Wagner who sold him.
Do I have as high hopes for him as I did after THAT game vs Blackpool? Nope, but I expect he'll be cheap and as a replacement for Pritchard -> QPR, a player whose game suits CC's way of playing he should be a useful addition to a very thin squad. A shrewd signing if not an exciting one.

Quote from a DC mate of mine who watches all their games home and away when I told him of our interest in Holmes. “I’d be ok with him leaving us. Can be good but has often been anonymous for us, puts in the effort, flashes of quality but often muscled out”. Sounds like the player we let go to me.

Whelmed again.... May as well not bother for me, as with Danny ward... just nothing signings blocking pathways.
Nowt against the lad, season long cheap loan to replace Eiting possibly, but Bacuna, High and Austerfield could surely do a similar job without wasting money on a nothing season, if we are going for it, then Holmes isn't good enough to make a difference, if we aren't going for it we don't need him, Not sure what scenario he would fit into? Stay midtable?

I admired him this season. He knew he hadn't done that well here and wasn't a supporters' favourite but stuck around, got stuck in, and didn't let us dowm.
I wish him all the best - certainly gave the impression of trying a lot harder than many of our expensive buys of the last 3 years have. Good luck.

Would love this. Have always thought he deserved more chances for our national team. Very creative and makes good, progressive passes

If you didn't know his name was "Duane Holmes", former town player, sold to Scunthorpe, not featured much this season with team towards bottom of the table. Can't help feel many folk on here would say, the kid has ability, nice turn, good control, can pick a pass, sign him up. So it's a yes from me.

It's really a case that we've loaned him out to a couple of teams to get some experience. We will probably pay for him what we saved on wages.

Forget the teenage kid we all remember Holmes has gone on to to become an established championship player - he would improve our squad and be a useful member of the team. His style is high energy, pace and direct running... he’d suit of our playing style of quickly transitioning defence to attack really well.
At 26 we’d also get his prime years
Knows the division, knows the club, proven at this level, at a good age, one of our own. I assume he’s a replacement for eiting and I’d be happy enough if this deal went through

Proven at this level??? I dont think so. He cant get a regular start for Derby. Too small and often gets outmuscled. If we sign him it just shows our lack of ambition.

Like many on here if we are all being honest, I have not much idea what Holmes is like at the moment. He was lightweight, if skilled, when he left and nowhere near being a regular when he left, so the move away was the right thing for him.
It would be good to see him back, but the questions I keep asking are i) if he is any good, why is he leaving Derby ii) if we are hoping for a playoff push this year or next, is he really the kind of player we need, he is pretty much the finished article now, presumably? iii) Never go back......apart from Boothy, obvs.
Edit - and perhaps Stead for his goal against Leeds!

It's a strange signing this, it seems from the outside the Eiting injury has caught us off guard, we've seen Holmes is available, the club knows the sort of character and player he is and it's an easy fit.

Think holmes was on the radar before the Eiting injury to be honest.Guessing would only replace Eiting now if can get rid of both Pritchard and diakhaby.

Not coming back in the twilight of his career but possibly at his prime? Edit: Just watched the video and he looks, on those highlights, like the player a lot of us hoped he would become. Quick, good feet and can pick a pass. He really could fit our system playing like that. Transitions from from back to front quickly, happy to take players on, could be a decent signing, and, as a few have asked for, proven Championship ability.

He's played 100 games in the Championship - www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duane-holmes/leistungsdaten/spieler/257095/plus/0?saison=gesHe signed for Derby in 2018. 18/19 they ended 6th and lost in the Play Off final at Wembley. Last season they were 10th Are you saying he's a League One standard player?

He was a key player in the season they lost the play off final, having been player of the season at scunny year before Was one of their top performers the following season until he broke his leg. Only reason he is no longer a regular is his contract situation. Frozen out to force him to move in Jan rather than free in the summer.

It would be cruel to laugh at Derby's plight wouldn't it ?

I'm not really a fan of returning players. Mally Brown was never the same after his big time move to newcastle, Roy Ellam when he returned from Leeds, Boothy wasn't what he was when he came back from Wednesday, Ward was never good enough and is worse on his return (when we've seen him), so Holmes coming back makes me nervous ..have I missed any other 'returning' players ?
