I see his qualities being well suited to our fast paced game particularly in transition with his pace & low centre of gravity. But like we have seen all season we struggle against physical teams & it seems half the teams in this league play this way. This signing will only magnify these problems. The team & squad as a whole is crying out for some size to not get bullied out of games. Too reliant on Sarr to get his head on everything in both boxes. That's another problem, for me. We are so easily bullied due to being such a small team. We could quite conceivably go into tomorrow's game with Schofield being the only player over 6'. Hoggy's only little, O'Brien is even smaller add Holmes into that in a team that struggles to defend set pieces already We'd just have to oompah lumpah it forward instead

You have to ask yourself this, is he any better than we have already? In my opinion,no, so why the fook would we sign him? Call me old fashioned but surely if you are making a signing he has to be better than what you already have and should improve the overall squad, he won't, it'll still be much of a muchness. The jury would be out for me. Playing devils advocate for a moment is not better than: A crocked Eiting? An underperforming Pritchard? An inconsistent Bacuna? A wholly disappointing Diakhaby? Any of the kids? Who surely would have been given a chance had they shown any potential? I am not wholly convinced he's the answer but I think he is likely to give 100% He's also shown that he is capable of adding something to a team since he left us. My main misgiving would be his physicality. However if he can fund space and use his ability on the ball he could certainly add something to the squad. I guess it comes down to value for money.

Who do think would do a better job in that position, if they were available? We do need a creative midfielder with Eiting probably out for the rest of the season. Not sure why Holmes wouldn't be a decent option. So the best option is someone who was that good we let him go for free the first time around. Derby had Mount and Lawrence as the creative midfielders rather than Holmes and now they want shut of him. 6 goals and 5 assists in 83 games, if he's a creative midfielder is almoat Pritchard-like figures That wasn’t the question I asked. Who would you have in preference to Holmes? Plus, as has been noted, better finishers would have upped his assists figure considerably, based on the video. Also that would be Mason Mount who now plays for Chelsea and England and Tom Lawrence they paid £5m for? Tough competition.

While Ben Hamer has improved, thought he should have done better last week, with their 1st goal. Good luck to the lad - UTT.

OK then, if we were replacing Eiting with a former player, Jamie Paterson is far better than Holmes. We also have Bacuna who's figures are better, we know what he can do when he wants so tell him to go make the position his rather than moving him around. Pritchard would have better assist figures if Kachunga could've hit a cows arse with a banjo last season

The idea that because your small you automatically get bullied off the ball and if your tall you can hold it up is just nonsense. We’ve all seen big strong lads that fail to hold the ball up, never win a header and get knocked off the ball easily just as you get small lads who seem to be able to jump higher than others and hold the ball up better. Size and strength are one thing but technique and determination are more important IMO

Had a stand-out year 2019/20, a mainstay under Lampard and in a team challenging for promotion.
Made 33 appearences, the majority of those starts, in a much-changed side last year.
He's been frozen out this year (as I think somoment else explained) beacuse they want to take a fee at a time they are having serious issues with cash-flow.
Forget his height, that's a lazy argument and he can be very combative for his stature - he's no push over: he's dynamic (can play key passes, can beat a man with ease and can hold/dictate the tempo), very good in the transition (he critically for us since the loss of Mooy, we have really lacked midfielders willing to look forward and break the lines) and is tactically disciplined. He should arguably score more, but his assits down to the man on the end of his passes. For 26, he can improve still but he's already a tidy and accomplished player in a division where the standard is high.
And if he's cheap, it's a no brainer for me.
It's as if some of the folk on here form opinons having never watched him play since he moved to Derby or on the basis of one game here and there. There are some very uninformed folk who are nonetheless not happy.
I am loathed to do this, but for the benefit of those that are uninformed, have a watch* - if he can replicate this, it can only be a positive for the squad. *I have chosen a lenghty video that focusses on game performances rather than snippets for more balance.

Should be an asset to a thin squad, but I hope in the summer we're looking for someone with a bit more physicality. If only we'd managed to get big Trev back.

If he couldn't agree a new deal with Derby it's probably because they offered him a lesser deal than his current one which tells you everything. If they wanted him to stay they would have offered him a better deal. They want rid cos they dont think hes good enough and I agree. A L2 player at best.

Whiteman for 1.5m would have been a far better buy or even push the boat out for Mowatt. Both better than Holmes by a country mile but probably out of our price range nowadays

Makes 53 appearances (90% starts) over two seasons in a side pushing for promotion to the PL (even playing in the playoffs) and gets badged ‘L2 at best’. State of some folk on here. Must be some fucking standard L2/Conference these days.

Totally agree we need more hard core midfielders and options dependant on the opposition think Holmes will suit the Carlos system always seems too pass forward instantly and drives at defenders.

He obviously rates Holmes a lot more than I ever have.

So he is sticking up for his mate. Wouldn't you stick up for your mate ? I cant get why folk snipe at the guy tbh . If he fucks off everyone will be having a right whinge in the summer

Look, I massively appreciate the peek-behind-the-curtains your posts offer. Massively. But people are allowed to express an opinion that doesn't chime with the Town recruitment team. I saw nothing untoward in his summing up of Holmes. There will be hundreds of people who would be underwhelmed with this transfer. He's just expressing an opinion that would be fairly prevalent amongst lots of Town fans. He didn't get personal. He just said facts. Everyone loves your insights, but we must still be allowed an opinion on the players involved.
