Dont want to knock the admins, and appreciate them letting this thread run
but another example of it not working (for me) is a couple of weeks ago someone made a thread about where the squad needed improving - which was shifted to transfer rumours board.
I see that as squad shaping/future planning and a much broader subject for discussion than simply being bunched in with transfer rumours. Someone with good knowledge of the academy, who might otherwise contribute to that sort of thread, could easily miss it if they steer clear of that board
be interesting come april or so when the bosman whispers start and maynard or someone sticks in there we are signing X player but hardly any buggar sees it as theyve stopped checking!

No need for off topic? You are joking aren’t you? So you want Otium, galpharm 2400, slaphead and about 10 other posters to flood the main (only) board of the forum of a FOOTBALL club about COVID, Trump and Islamophobia then? No thanks. And this is exactly why the 'just click on recently updated threads' answer is a bit guff. Some (most) of us come here to read about Town. There are far better places and audiences to discuss other stuff. So, to pick up on threads about players we've signed, the suggestion is to click a button which throws up yet more thread titles to decipher if they're of any relevance to football or not is a bit daft. Just stick footy stuff in ToTT, have a sub board for transfer RUMOURS if you really must (although from what I saw of the discussion, the vast majority who expressed an opinion were against the "new structure"), and I couldn't really give a stuff about anything else as long as I don't have to sift through it to find out we've signed Duane Holmes. Most people were against the new layout because no one was actually informed before the change was implemented. We all just wondered what the chuff was going on. I’m not saying every single change the admins are considering needs to be put to a vote first, but when you have as many members as we do, I think it’s important to get as many of them as possible involved with how the forum operates. It’s all well and good the admins saying the change was “discussed at length”, but when it was only “discussed at length” between those two, and it wasn’t even suggested to us, despite us being actual members.. just looks a bit of a shame really. But, generally, the admins do a good job. Let themselves down with the new structure thing but we all make mistakes. I wonder if any potential changes in future will be put forward to the thousands of members (could be hundreds, don’t know how to check) who use the forum and contribute just as much (or more) than the admins, or whether there will be a lengthy discussion between two people who had obviously both agreed on the topic anyway. Anyway, if this is our only complaint about DATM then the forum is probably in a good place overall.

The new structure just made a bad situation (a lot) worse.

The January rumours thread has had 223,397 views
The transfer rumours board has 14,130 posts. Since November. Averaging 5k posts per month.
It's all just so damned hard to find.

Was nothing wrong with it as it was. No idea why it changed. If viewing numbers and fan engagement is up, then the admins did a good job. If not, well, maybe needs to get back to how it was!

BigDaddyG, I peruse the Celtic FC thread on the odd occasion. They also have a separate area for transfer rumours, but they also have a “Welcome (insert new signing’s name)” on the main board from when they sign. It then becomes their own personal thread until they leave. I personally think that’s a good way to run a board because it’s quite tidy. Just a suggestion.

Last year's Jan transfer thread had 998,349 views and 6,920 posts in 1 thread, ignoring individual threads for players. 5,909 of those posts you mentioned are from the summer transfer thread which was moved to the archive of that forum. In fact, the majority of those 14k posts have been moved from ToTT or from the previous sub board, not created in the the transfer rumours board itself. I think you've spent too much time with Otium with that level of facts.

Or, keep the one player thread but move it from the rumours sub-board to the main board once the transfer's confirmed. For example, the Richard Keogh discussion is on there but he's not a rumour, he's played two games for us!

On the rare occasions we actually sign anyone. Although recently seems "Welcome Back XXX" would be more apt.

Maybe just move the "signings confirmed" thread over to the main board - stickied of course. After all, these are not rumours any more.

Was a regular reader and sporadic poster, pretty much neither now (but I'm here now!) Just doesn't have the same vibe to it with the boards split. It looks and feels stale. I always forget the other thread is there. But I guess it's got to the point where the admins won't/can't admit an error and put it back to how it was even though seemingly the majority would prefer it.

Except that, until this week, everyone was just cracking on with it as it is... Because we’ve got used to having to go back and forth between boards, and have learnt to deal with it - doesn’t mean people like it. Look, and for the record I do this for a living - stats are only half the story at the best of times, but for something as unique as supporting a football team - they’re almost meaningless. “People are still here” (I’m paraphrasing) - what’s the alternative? Join Marcus’ board, or choose another team? Christ, I’d rather support Bradford than join that, if indeed it even exists. My point is, trying to justify a change that’s been widely criticised by saying that “people are still viewing it!” is a bit short-sighted, and rather patronising. Numbers DO lie, sometimes. That’s why any web professional worth their salt would tell you to talk to your audience, rather than throw numbers at them to try to convince them they’re wrong.

I guess some posters are a little more influential than others.

Much better when all on the main board.

I've never used anything else but the "Recent Threads' option, since I knew it was there!Perhaps why I've never understood the sub board debate.

bloody rubbish imo... was this voted in? we've signed a player and the thread on him is in a "transfer rumours" forum I dont really understand the need for it. The board is quieter than usual as it is, i log in every few days and its the same old threads on the front page. dont see what was so wrong with a transfer rumours thread on the main board then an individual thread for more substantial news/confirmed signings. This seperate rumour forum lark works on the forums of big clubs (but they usually have a thread then made for a player on the main board) but not sure its needed on here with a few hundred folk knocking about it's dead and the season is still going, imagine the main board come summer break Couldn't agree more
