Could be way off the mark here, but let’s assume that upon reaching the promised land, Wagner was given an improved contract with greater or final say on transfers etc. Our second season in the Premier saw that policy in action. Tens of millions spent on players who weren’t good enough. Players we struggled to get rid of years later. So PH comes in, sees the same thing happening with the Cowleys. Refusing to let history repeat, he sacks the pair and gets in a coach (not a manager) and implements a transfer system involving committee. The hope is that transfers will improve and money won’t be wasted at the scale seen under Wagner.

Basic problem with this “theory” is that the Cowleys didn’t spend millions on players we are struggling to get rid of. Stupid thread.

Is this a thread where we an spout random, unproven, unprovable theories that let the current chairman off the hook for 2 years of mismanagement?
Oh good, long overdue.
Maybe we need a sub board?

Two years of mismanagement? Does this include appointing an unproven head coach, getting high earners off the wage bill, being careful with money and potentially mid table after 2 very difficult seasons.

He/She is talking like PH took over the club after the Cowley's came in. I must have been living in another dimension throughout this pandemic 🤯

Two years of mismanagement? Does this include appointing an unproven head coach, getting high earners off the wage bill, being careful with money and potentially mid table after 2 very difficult seasons. It includes: The paddy power shirt debacle Paying £1m for a management team you then have to pay almost the same again to fire for [ Checks notes] Achieving what was expected of them Offering a player a new contract then withdrawing the offer hours before a vital match, before hanging the Director of Football out to dry Lying about being at an historic match [checks notes again] for no apparent reason. Lying about being in a social club that was closed down at the time of the match you'd already lied about being at [checks notes yet again] for no apparent reason. Having a social media paddy like a toddler Claiming to not need a striker because we have 5 already, when only 1 is a valid first team option Giving Danny Ward a 3 year contract despite him having hamstrings made of paper Having the Huddersfield Hundred go from over 90 corporate partners to fewer than 30 in a year Screwing up a key transfer on the summer window deadline day due to an allegedly broken fax machine Screwing up a key transfer on the winter window deadline day due to your attitude pissing off other clubs and putting off potential acquisitions Having your director of football bemoan the lack of strikers when commentating on a match, days after he failed to bring one in because (see above) This is not an exhaustive list. It's just off the top of my head. But no, you're right, the imagination of the OP is probably more accurate....

The Paddy Power shirt stunt was great, We (Jarvis) should have kept his nerve and let it run another week,, Superb publicity.

I wouldn't care but look at the number of clubs who are sponsored by gambling firms. At least Paddypower did something inventive.

Its a nonsense theory, because he appointed the Cowleys, so he gave them both a contract and they obviously agreed exactly who did what. So there would be no "seeing the same thing happening" because he agreed exactly who had what say in transfers PRIOR to them being appointed.
In my opinion there is no "theory" as to what happened. There is only 1 person who has the final final say on the transfers, and that is the person writing the cheque. It doesnt matter who anyone said they wanted to sign for however many millions, the owner authorises it. And in our case it seems he authorised signings we couldnt afford, seemingly blowing the following years incomings before we had even received it, to take a stupid gamble that put the club at unnecessary risk.

The one permanent transfer fee Cowley paid for a player (Toffolo) was terrible business wasn’t it

The debacle I referred to was the fine for wearing it which we ended up paying for. The stunt itself I didn't mind. But even then someone out businessed our businessman owner.

If we finish mid table this season it's down to good luck. He brought in Corberan but the season ain't over yet and we could still go down. Judgement to be reserved on whether that was a good decision. He has sold all our best players and replaced them mostly with league one below players. How is he being careful with money?
