Me too. I kick myself everytime I bite! We’ve had it all on here; a microcosm of what our Society looks like at the moment. And, it ain’t a pretty sight. Be done then, genuinely didnt say anything to get a `bite`, i do get fed up though of people jumping on the bandwaggon because someone has a different point of view, i genuinely dont know the issue with the bit in bold type, we all know how things are twisted to suit an agenda, i generally have you down as pretty sensible middle of the road kinda bloke and thought you just might recognize the point. |

They make far more for the country than they cost, have bugger all influence and support many very worthy causes.
Above all, being a member must be a huge ballache and make for a pretty miserable existence.

Or have a Snickers. You probably didn’t see it cos I think you’re in Spain when he died BBC 1, BBC 2 and the the BBC news channel all had the same news feed. ITV and Channel 4 all had their own rolling programmes too. The fact that the the BBC devoted three channels to the same story/news feed and the fact that even the Top three stories on the BBC sport website covered his death makes no sense, especially in the 21st Century. |

I do find reading about the lives of the good and the great quite interesting. Therefore I read the DT obituaries every day. PP was essentially an orphan. After escaping Greece after a coup, his mother Princess Alice was committed in the early '30s and his father Prince Andrew who settled in France wanted nothing really to do with him. His uncles George and then Dickie Mountbatten were the ones who gave him some kind of father figure. It was when he was at Gordonstoun that the head called PP in to tell him that his sister Cecile, her husband and children had been killed in an aircraft crash in Belgium. They found the remains of a newborn child (Cecile was heavily pregnant) in the wreckage. He received the news stoically for a young boy, but this affected him quite badly. He certainly had a fascinating (if that isn’t too cold) childhood and upbringing. R4 have had a few great programmes on since Friday. His early years were tragic, let’s not forget that Mountbatten himself was eventually murdered by the IRA. He really was the pivot in history. The old order of royal houses using their offspring to cement relationships between each other. He met princess Elizabeth when she was just 13. To be born into the post-Victorian chaos of distant relatives sitting on most European thrones (WWI was in essence a family argument between cousins) and oversee your heirs marry common folk for nothing but love must have been some change in mindset. So he liked young girls, now we know where Andrew gets it from, it runs in the family. |

It will be a sombre affair, stoney-faces looking on as the formalities are played out, scarcely believing what was once the embodiment of hope, vibrancy and optimism is now but a memory. A weary demise after years of ambling on in perpetual, terminal decline. The man in black ending it after many tears have been shed, many anguished cries released. Why. Oh why must it come to this? All that’s left will be a vague sadness and feeling that we should have appreciated the exuberance of those halcyon days so much more. Still, at least the funeral will cheer us up afterwards. |
