If the club had a uni lateral option how could it be "too late"? Irrespective of him signing a pre contract they could just trigger the option couldn't they and "force" him to stay?? (or grab a fee). Well the club did have an option - as they reported that when we signed Stankovic in 2016. Options expire and if Town let the option expire stankovic was free to sign elsewhere They said we had an option on Mooy too...

is it not more dangerous to leave the wrong man in charge of what could be one of the most important transfer windows in our history. Can I be honest with the Interweb and say I don't know which is the lesser of two evils: 1. Wrong man with targets lined up. 2. Somebody else who has insufficient time to get targets lined up. NB. There is a risk that the "right person" for number 2 would turn down the job because he is on a hiding to nothing and risks his reputation, so you end up with another "wrong man", but I could be overthinking this 😉 If Hodgkinson found the right DoF with experience, I would be far more trusting of him in a short space of time rather than a portfolio of players that Bromby and Marsh have been putting together for a year. We just can't continue to give out contracts of 3 yrs to the likes of Danny ward.....utter madness

I have a feeling Phil will have to make a decision between Bromby and Carlos as I don’t think the current coaching staff will carry on under the current recruitment policies.

I've been critical of Bromby and the wider recruitment team with justification I would say. But gotta say on the whole this window seems to be a positive one,yes jury are still out on a few of the signings but Sinani, colwill, Pearson, lees are definitely upgrades on elphick stearman Keogh etc. If this lad from west ham can hit his straps from his U23 form then what a front line up we have.

Yes it’s promising.Arron Rowe still to come back who looked to have something last season.Fingers crossed arrons can contribute somehow although I’m afraid with that one dubious he won’t be injured again shortly. Another thing to add in is that if(and it’s a big if) we can sustain some sort of decent/mid table form, after Christmas may be able to drop in players like diarra,Russel,Danny grant if he gets fit.Be a much better environment for them to come into than the last couple of years when we have been fighting relegation. Nothing to get too carried away about but like you say credit where credit is due.

I still think he’s rubbish but with more details of the restrictions he’s working under coming out he does have some decent excuses.

I hope he plays a lot and proves he's ready.

It's interesting. We've had a good window under very tight budget constraints. Be interesting to see how he would do with money...but ultimately Im just not sure he lines up with the vision we have for the club - under coaches like corberan. Just seems on a slightly different page
Id be interested to know how much say phil had in signing the returning 3, was it an attempt by phil for a bit of goodwill with the fans? Bromby's record looks a bit better if so
What we do seem to have at the club somwhere in the ladder is someone with an eye for spotting youngsters

Not bringing in another old player helps and I would guess that the crossing of the ball by one signing made by us in January has transformed the whole feeling about the club and some of the other transfers we have made. I am I little more cautious than most on here and have seen 3 very poor games and missed one excellent one by all accounts. I am very happy with the league position and the points in the bag but one swallow dose not a summer make.

It's a hard one to judge for me as we don't know all the facts. How much budget does he have? Is he trying to make a single duvet fit a king-sized bed? Is he doing the negotiating? Who've we lost out on because of outside factors?
The signings for the academy look really good, as well as the young lads to develop like Koroma, Thomas, Rowe etc.
Some of the stop gaps have been pretty average (Keogh) and before this summer I'd have said that experienced signings have been poor (Ward, Holmes, Pereira). But we've done good signings in Pearson, Nichols, Lees amongst others this summer so I think on the whole he's not done too bad now that we've seeing more from January's signings and the summer.
But giving out healthy contracts to old boys in Holmes, Ward and Rhodes leaves a bad impression, especially the way Holmes mentioned it in his signing interview. Made it sound like his mate offered him a job because Holmes needed another club, rather than it being the product of thorough due diligence and the best possible candidate in our budget for that position.

People reading too much into comments about why he will feel at home back at Town (feeling in the right place is psychologically good). Same could apply to Rhodes & Ward if people gave them chance to get fit, injury free & up to speed with Carlos's methods.

I've said before, but no time ago Bromby was going around Sheffield trying to get people to sign up as franchisees for his soccer schools. Next thing you know, he's landed the top job at Town. How the fuck did that happen? N.B. I never use the word soccer, but it seems to be that these things are always "soccer schools" Y'all have a nice day now folks... Not actually an Americanism! I used to think so too but it was on QI that it was the posh twats down south who started it to differentiate between rugby football (rugger) and association football (soccer)! Still don't use the term myself though, its footy or football ffs ☺

That’s a dangerous position for an older professional footballer to be in. I want players to come here uncomfortable, with something to prove and some drive in them.

Mistakes were made in the summer 2020 window (aarons) and the January 2021 (no first team ready striker then messing around with free agents like niasse, sonogo and Morrison)
However you can only learn from errors and we seem to have. Got to deadline day with our business done - the vast majority in ahead of pre season
We’ve added two of the best teenagers on loan in English football and sounds like we nearly got a third (Doyle)
I think in the context you have to give credit to bromby and co
Most regard this window as a good one so let’s hope future windows are equally positive

He also tends to be blamed for transfer mistakes that happened whilst he was still in charge of the academy (which has improved enormously btw). There have been mistakes, but my opinion of Bromby is becoming more positive.

It's a model that Southampton use and his very detailed as explained nice to see it shown as it might just help some to understand the way it all works they don't always work out but as it says. It helps the player in there overall development good article

Thread should be amended to "Time to go and give Bromby a massive pay rise!". For me he's become the most important person on our payroll - certainly the one I fear losing the most. His performance won't have gone unnoticed by other clubs. Interesting to read both the poll results and the comments early in this thread. It shows how you need to be patient with new appointments (Bromby, Corberan, Alex Ferguson ) - no doubt the same knives will be out for Danny Schofield if we have an uninspiring season this time.

Yep, mistakes were made. The miscommunication regarding Danny Simpson's Covid contract extension, and the incorrect assumption that we had an option on Mooy being the notable ones. Although even then, the former of those ended up being a blessing as we discovered that Chalobah was far better anyway.
Much of what he was being blamed for was the recruitment in 2018... except he was in charge of the academy at the time. Or to put it another way, if he was responsible for any of the recruitment decisions around that time, it wasn't Diabenza, Kongolo and Pritchard. It was Camara, Diarra, Ayina, Harratt et al.
We have an under-rated gem in Bromby.

...this is a massive season for Bromby and we will see if CC was really the catalyst for all the good work last season or if it is the club / system / Bromby. Like many, I was not a fan and questioned the recruitment but it came together last season really well and if the Bromby 'formula' is a good one we should see a decent run in this season (by which I mean at least top half............)
