I remember being in the players lounge as it unfolded.. was it the day wimbledon got promoted ? Maybe maybe not . Went to a game featuring man utd at Leeds Road that was something to do with the disaster fund. I also remember us getting schooled by them at odsal We were at home to Pompey that day, when they had the open end and the Cowshed. Strangely this game was the final game of the 84/85 but we did in fact play the following Tuesday drawing 2-2 with Sheffield United.

No, that's Nina Carter. JJ is her best mate. You're absolutely right. Knew it was a blonde Page Three girl though... Tbh I only knew because there was a documentary on Page 3 a while ago and they were on it.

I also remember us getting schooled by them at odsal City played a few League and League Cup fixtures at Town, I think a couple at Elland Road as well, while their ground was rebuilt, there was a Tuesday night friendly, a fund raiser for the disaster appeal, City v Man U at Leeds Road which I went to, the crowd was nothing to write home about, 5,000 or so. I also went to a re run of the 1966 World Cup Final, again a fund raiser, played at Elland Road, plenty of the original players from both teams on show including Ray Wilson who did 5 minutes before his plastic knee gave up ! A better crowd of around 20,000 for this one. They played quite a few at Leeds Road. A lad from school used to go to go in the away end no matter who it was he was supporting against City. They played Sunderland and it took him til Town to get away from the Mackems, everyone he tried making a move for home the coppers threw him back into the crowd they were marching to the station to put on a train back 😄

Wimbledon was the year after, I think. We were in the players lounge too, that's when we found out how serious it was. City played Man U in a friendly at Leeds Road and won. I remember seeing us lose a couple of times at Odsal, Cork was sent off in one of them. A 4-3 defeat at Odsal sums up Town, it was mid November, we had two away points from a goalless draw at Bramall Lane and a 1-1 at St Andrew’s, Julian Dicks obliged with a 92nd minute own goal equaliser, our only goal away from home in the first 7 games, so let’s get three in a local derby and still lose ! Only Town eh, A 3-1 lead turned into a 4-3 defeat, i remember Paul Raynor scoring one of towns goals and him carrying on like he`d scored the winner in a cup final, he was like that, never one to saunter back after receiving congrats form his team mates!

Alan Ball manager :-( And THEY HAD THE COWSHED Seriously doubt they brought 10k The crowd was only about 13,000. The ends were both pretty empty. They could have squeezed them all in open end like Barnsley. Maybe 7000.

😁 I know. What did the Bradley Mills end used to hold back then? 3k? The Cowshed wasn't even half full either, looking at that footage. Still a decent turn out though.

I have mates who question the 'Dirty Leeds' tag, and say it's rival clubs' bravado, but let's never forget their 'fans' overturned a chip van that set ablaze while City were forced to play at Odsal the year after the Valley Parade fire, and also punched OAPs in the the face while on a Bank Holiday rampage in Bournemouth four seasons later.
The BT Sport doc about the fire that features Gabby Yorath is heart wrenching yet essential viewing.

I always feel saddened that the Bradford fire disaster isn't remembered and commemorated in the way that other football tragedies are. And it was only by looking at the Bradford website (to check out their retained list) that I saw the 36th anniversary was yesterday (May 11). Unless I missed it, I didn't see anything on here yesterday - which is a pity. So this is a belated thread on a topic that deserves to be recognised. RIP the 56 Yeah remember it like yesterday. Just before ma 15th birthday. I’d just got back into my dad’s life after a 5 year gap after he separated from ma mum. He’d retired as a skipper in the merchant navy and was skippering a local fishing boat and went to collect his wages at the owners house then we were going to the pub for drink and pool. He took a few drinks with the guy and the results went over to this fire report live I think. It was horrible how quickly it took hold and horrific when the final total of fatalities was announced. I think Town helped by offering Leeds Road to Bradford for matches. Yorkshire would come together in true neighbourhood spirit bound by tragedy. I normally head head back up the road via Manchester after a Town match, but an odd time I’ve had a lift with a mate, he goes through Bradford and we see Valley Parade and I think of that fateful day. It’s ma wee maw’s birthday 11th May, and while celebrating her birthday like two days ago, I quietly reflect on my memories of the events of 11/5/1985. R.I.P. the poor souls who perished that day and thoughts with their surviving loved ones.

I'm sure they had some more of the stand too, well more than what was usually on offer, the single end block. The ground capacity at that time was a whopping 32k, no one knows what the capacity of the away end as it was never all ticket and no one ever use to full it apart from Leeds and Man City. If I was to hazard a guess I'd certainly say about 3500.

We could have had a other 20,000 in.

I’d been in the stand that burned down many times. A few weeks after the fire I had a day out in the Dales with my parents and my girlfriend and we called in at Valley Parade to see the blackened ruins on the way back to Birstall.
I can clearly remember my girlfriend saying I shouldn’t go to football ever again. Was she really the girl for me, I wondered? It’s our 37th wedding anniversary in a few weeks, so obviously I ignored her!
Rest in Peace to the 56.

Went to a charity game & Valley Parade after the fire - All star England v All Star Bradford. The charred remains on that stand in the background. Awful, awful time. I was in Bradford that afternoon as was getting a train up to Thirsk to start a new job - Saw the smoke from The Interchange as I departed and thought no more of it until I saw the tele later that night I went that Brad City v Man utd game at Leeds Road, stood in open end, Brad won 3-1 if I recall,Man U had a few top players in also!!
