Surely he wouldn't go there? Don’t see why not, certain players will follow a manager they like, John McGovern with Clough, Chris Billy with Warnock, if they get on they could offer him the same money, who knows what he’s on and Pompey have same crowd base and a billionaire owner (last time I heard off at least), then point out next season they will push for the title, again, stay at Town you’ll be fighting relegation, again and could swap places at the end of the season. I’m not saying all that is set in stone just that given that take it’s not that unlikely.

Nigel Adkins when he first came to prominence at Scunny used to get Atkins in the papers and tv and radio never mind on a fan’s forum - whatever happened to him, did wonders at Scunny and Southampton, possible future England boss then so so with Reading, Sheff U and Hull, linked with Town and disappeared? He's Charlton manager these days. Genuinely didn’t know, presumably take over from Bowyer ?

I’m not saying all that is set in stone just that given that take it’s not that unlikely. No chance. He’s 25 and has been good but not PL quality in the Championship. If he has a breakout year he goes to the PL at 26 for a 3 year deal at a lower end PL club. An injury next year would still see him get Championship offers, but if he drops to League 1 and gets injured, especially at the end of the contract, he will be playing League 1 for the rest of his career. It would be a naive and stupid move as he moves into the prime of his career.

Depends how happy he is here, whether he thinks we'll do better next season, whether he likes Carlos's style..I presume he has family in Lincoln still, don't know, but Portsmouth is major move, a house move likely..change of school for his kids (if he has any).. How much would we ask for him anyway ? I thought he started last season really well, but started looking tired later on having been the only player to play in all of the first 28 games until he got sent off at Luton. ..and then got injured..starting only 3 of our last 20 games.. I'd say he's only just Championship quality, he looks good raiding down the wing, but is sometimes caught out at the back..Maybe a nice long break this summer will see him rejuvinated next season..

Toffolo seems like a big family man. I think it would have to be silly money to upsticks with young kids to play league 1.
If a championship side came in with good money quite local then maybe, he has an outside chance of PL but I think like Scott Malone he will find PL a step too far to be a regular

As for the rumour, it would be a very strange pro footballer who willingly dropped a division just to play for a manager he rates/ gets on with. Strange for various reasons, not least because the Cowleys could be sacked if they do badly, or leave to a higher club if they do well, leaving him stuck in L1 when he didn't need to be. One of those rumours to file under 'bollocks' IMO.

Surely he came here because he was offered a big pay increase?

Harry's words less than two weeks ago
But we’ve got a new regime at the football club, and as players, I’ve been here for 18 months now, and some people might not believe it, but I’ve enjoyed these 18 months an incredible amount.
“I’m looking forward to seeing where this football club goes. Under the right guidance and with the players coming in during the summer window, it’s going to be an exciting time for this club, and it’s one that we can really buy into.”

The rumour is a strange one but comes from a BBC journo - so that in itself gives it some creditability I guess the Cowleys will know his wages and might feel they can do something there. Toffolo also knows that the Cowleys have been very good for his career so far I don't know Pompey's financial position but they wouldn't be the first League One side to throw money around. I remember Soton signing Jose Fonte and Schneiderlin for seven figure fees in League One ... and that was over 10 years ago The salary cap idea was blocked by the PFA so won't be happening - www.theguardian.com/football/2021/feb/09/league-one-two-scrap-salary-cap-after-appeal-by-players-union-pfaI can't see it happening but I wouldn't fully discount it either

Doesn't necessarily mean that goes the other way though. Toff might prefer Carlos to them for all we know.

I’d rather we didn’t sell one of the few players we have who is capable of playing in a team which could challenge for the top 6
Not to a league 1 club
Even we wouldn’t be that daft...

One of those rumours to file under 'bollocks' IMO. They had a string of wealthy owners, culminating in Harry Redknapp throwing money around like a drunken sailor, then they had a fan take over but a few years ago Michael Esner (?) American billionaire and owner of Disney (as in Micky Mouse) bought them. Again, I repeat I’m not saying Toffolo will or I want him to go there, it’s just given the nature of football and footballers I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if he did and as for it being risky following a manager if he gets sacked, you mean like leaving Lincoln to follow the Cowleys to Huddersfield, especially as at the time it looked like City would be promoted and Town relegated ?

On that last point, Town were 4 points above the relegation zone when we signed Toff.

Playing for a manager he knew and possibly liked might have been a lure. Perhaps not as much as moving to a far bigger club, for way more money and in the division above probably was though. Even accepting we were towards the relegation zone at the time. Leaving Lincoln for Town was a big step up for Toffolo. Moving to Portsmouth would be a step backwards IMO. Any player has a value and if it was Pompey that matched what wed want to sell him, then I suppose from our point of view its irrelevant where he goes. Could be to the North east Counties Div 2 for all it matters to Town if the money was right. It would just seem like a very strange thing for a footballer to do.
