Bring back the West Riding Cup. We could use those games as our pre season games. I once went to a Town v Halifax game over at the Shay in the WR Cup, in the 80’s I think. There can’t have been more than 500 there and yet about 400 of them were fighting.

Rangers played Sheffield Wednesday in a pre-season a couple of years back. Hillsborough (the area) was absolutely wrecked by the time they'd finished. Remember when half of Glasgow came down to Manchester for the Europa League final a few years back? Manchester was a scene of devastation for days following it. Filthy, alcoholic sweaty socks. They reckon upward of 50k were there on the lash! That would be my living hell.

nah just a joke about the cost of beer there Yes I remember it being expensive. I went to all three games and broke it up by going over to Galway for a night which was a far better place than Dublin and I didn't get the feeling I was being ripped off. Shhhhhh, Galway must be kept a secret. We don’t want any riff raff going there.

They reckon upward of 50k were there on the lash! That would be my living hell. They must have brought twice as many as they had tickets for when they played Wednesday. The really disgusting thing is that there's an old boy who is a Sheffield institution: the pram man (John Burkhill). He's an 80-odd year old bloke who has raised a million pounds for Macmillan cancer support (who cared for his wife) by pushing around a brightly coloured pram dressed head to toe in green: the charity's colours. Because he dared to wear green, Rangers fans took his wig and threw it in a bin. They then turned his trolley over. Charming bunch. P.S. I should add that some Rangers fans who heard the story were so appalled that they did a whip round and made a decent donation to Macmillan.

Only about 3000 at best turned up.

Not that I wanted to be - the lad I went to the game with was bitten by a police dog.

We have discussed on the forum about Scottish teams joining the English league a few times , what I would like to see is an Anglo-Scottish cup, played instead of the old league cup.
You could begin the competition a few weeks before the start of the season , these games could be played on a Saturday instead of the usual friendlies. I would love a trip up to Scotland watching Town at teams such as Stirling Albion/ Queen of the South etc, probably just a pipe dream, but possibly a little more exiting than playing Rochdale etc . (Nothing against Rochdale by the way).

My second team has always been East Fife & I'd love to see Town play them...preferably in the beauty spot of Methil; described in Buckfast Weekly as Scotland's biggest shithole. In fact, their local derby with Cowdenbeath was once called a battle to find the shittest team in the shittest part of Scotland, so a double header against the pair of them would be a great excuse for a few days on the lash.

Yeah, Cowdenbeath and Methil are both rather ugly places these days, although Cowdenbeath’s Central Park ground is a “must do” if you can. Plenty hate it but lots of people love it. I think Central Park is just fantastic and unique. Most people will be aware of its delights - the tiny pitch surrounded by the stock car track festooned with giant tyres, high net fencing to protect the (much bigger) stock car fans from flying debris, which you have to peer through, the large open terracing and ancient wooden stand. The ground is just off Cowdenbeath high street with its goth pub and little else. Unfortunately for you I’m guessing you never got to East Fife’s old ground, Bayview? This was another cracking little ground, a proper old-fashioned ground with a main stand, good size covered terrace and two good size open ends, great views all round and on top of the action. Great location in the centre of town. Shame it’s gone because its replacement is just bland.

On a par with Cliftonhill in the 'it's so bad it's good' category. Sadly, I never did make it to the old Bayview; I always had it in mind to go just never got around to it. I've been to the new place a few times...it had it's own charm when the power station was still there (I think it won a 'Britain's ugliest ground' award or something a few years ago). I went to a game against Stenhousemuir a few year back & by chance it coincided with a Board-supporters meeting in the bar. The chairman is a really nice guy (I have a he gave me..."You've honestly travelled all this way just to watch us?"). Anyway, the meeting was really interesting to hear the challenges that teams like them face. They had a lot of issues with the council about maintaining the sea wall next to the ground. Even sadder was the claim (I don't know if it's true or not) that more people travel from Fife to watch Rangers on a typical Saturday than actually watch football in Fife.

I enjoy the preseason friendlies.
Missed out on the Ibiza trips (apparently QPR & Coventry fans had a bit of a feud).
Went to the Isle of Man International tournament a few years back (Oldham, Stockport, Wrexham, Grimsby & us).
Enjoyed a trip to Scotland (Kilmarnock & Hibs) a few years ago. Glasgow's Grande ole opry in Govan is a place to behold on a Friday night!

I think we need a mix of lower league opponents and higher league. We want to blood youngsters and instil confidence with a few big wins but don't want to be complacent when the big guns come out.
Hoping to see lots of Rowe, Thomas, Jackson, Austerfield and High.

I know a lot of folk aren't bothered about the pre season friendlies and would never part with their money to watch but personally I quite like them, chance of the odd pint, have a look at any new players and no pressure on the result!

There are glory-hunter coaches to Glasgow from all across the country - even the likes of Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Mind you, it's no more ridiculous than the number of cockneys who come up to Manchester on a weekend to watch "their" team at Old Trafford.

If there’s an accident on the M25 the kick off gets delayed at Old Trafford.

I like to see how we are playing even though a good pre season does not mean that we have a season on the way. I also like to see us play abroad and against a good quality side better than we are. So start with a few easy games to get warmed up and fitter and a gradual increase in quality. We also have had two sets of warm up games in the past some for the first team and others to give the stiffs a run out as well.

It always surprises me when we go to play at Derby or Forest how many coaches they have at home games from random far flung destinations.

We actually beat someone in a Cup competition! Link to my website

If anything i like an away friendly match, chance to sometimes visit a new ground being the main reason, the games themselves are boring, been to quite a few grounds i wouldn't have go to otherwise.

I was at the Golcar game this afternoon & they are advertising a pre-season friendly against us on July 13th. No indication of expectations with regards to what strength team but it's a good setup there...even better when they reopen the bar.

I'll probably still nip up to watch it though. Especially if the bar is open 😁
