Since the turn of the millennium we’ve won three play off finals, all by penalty shootouts. One was even won by our keeper.
When people still buzz about England’s penalty win against Colombia it makes me realise how fortunate we are as town fans. Many clubs don’t have near the excitement we’ve had recently.

We got promoted through the play-offs all the way from 4th tier to premier league without scoring a single goal in any of the finals. Not sure if that feat will ever be repeated

Aim for the top, otherwise what’s the point. I want what little old Brentford have. Pontus Jansson ?

The start of the season since I was a young lad (1968) I always expect Town to do well, but like most things in life its a series of ups and downs...in towns case far too many downs This season is no different for me, I expect us to do well until proved otherwise, but the key words are "do well". For me flirting with the play offs even if we don’t make it is a great season given the last few years when its been seemingly non stop losses and relegation staring us in the face, and with the club and fans seemingly losing touch with each other has not helped the mood. To be realistic we are a small town club who have punched above their weight some seasons and achieved promotion on tiny budgets with journeymen and unknown youngsters gelling under a manager who inspires them with his vision. We have to be honest in our aims, sure the prem would be great but simply staying above mid table in this league is a realistic goal most years. But I suspect like most of you no matter what happens, Town will always be your team. If you want guaranteed success jump ship and follow one of the big clubs with billionaire owners, but for me come what may Town will always be my team and I will look forward each season with positivity no matter what league we are in. Huddersfield is not a small Town far from it but for some reason some people think we are. Huddersfield is similar in size to Brighton, Wolverhampton you don't hear their fans with this Small Town Identity and we certainly have not punched above our weight, we are not Bradford or Wigan.

I've been watching Town since 1969, so understand your total lack of ambition and acceptance of mediocrity. I'm sadly hanging up my this season, because I'm getting on a bit and life's just too short to spend my weekends being disappointed. Out of sight, out of mind. UTMT. I don't think being in the championship is 'mediocrity' for Town. Ive got 10 years less than you in terms of going, and for my time following the club its League 1 thats been the standard fare, so thats where mediocrity is as I see it. Being established in the championship is not lacking ambition as far as Town are concerned IMO. It is in itself an ambition ( this is a really competitive division with plenty of much bigger clubs in it ) .. its just one that were actually achieving during this spell in the clubs history. Been a fan since 87. The average has been bottom end championship/top end league 1 over that spell. Even last season's "disaster" was marginally above average.

Brighton - 290,000 Wolverhampton - 249,000 Huddersfield - 163,000 Compare that with Leeds (783,000) and Bradford (540,000) and it shows how well we do compared to other places in West Yorkshire.

I can't speak for other teams, but a large proportion of Town fans don't live in Huddersfield.

Isn’t Huddersfield the biggest town in the country in terms of population? Reading. It was once upon a time I believe, but Readings location close to London and benefiting from the newer modern companies locating there it has grown rapidly. I used to live close by and it has much flatter ground around there compared to Huddersfield there and this made it easier to build on. Up north has been left to rot pretty much and it rains too much as well

We had ambition when we brought MacDonald in, we had ambition when Rubery was in charge, it was our ambition to stay in the Premier League that caused us to bet the club on the transfer market. The story of football is littered with clubs with more ambition than sense.

They can be criticised by their fans but one thing they didn't lack was ambition!

Isn’t Huddersfield the biggest town in the country in terms of population? no, not by a long shot. But there are towns / cities with smaller populations that don't seem to label themselves as 'little', so no idea why that is a thing for Town......

Very good. An improvement on Brown and should push Toffolo to improve.
Unless a big offer comes in for Toffolo or Pipa (unlikely) then that’s the keeper and defence sorted. I’d like us to have signed a keeper to play rather than be backup but it’s done now.
Hopefully the club will replace Eiting - Phil did mention loans from premierleague clubs, and we can sell and replace Bacuna and Mbenza. If we do then I will be feeling pretty positive going into the season.

Excellent back up for Toffolo. He’ll want to come here and play though, especially at his age. At least if Toffolo does go, we have a ready-made replacement. Much better business so far compared to last summer.

Every signing so far apart from Rhodes are all very similar in terms of career history and character type. It seems our criteria this summer is: Hitting prime years of career Played a lot of games / rarely injured Known for being a grafter and giving 100% every day Good person around the dressing room, good leaders Solid performers every game. Comments from fans of where they're leaving have all been along the lines of "consistent, rarely below 7/10" Now this will be a nice change from some of the nobheads we've had pretending to be professional footballers. However, it is a bit of a risk in terms of whether they actually have the ability at Championship level to go with their guaranteed effort. Agree that at least we might be signing people who might put in a shift unlike some of the fairies we have now.
