On the 21st June 2012, Town lost at home abysmally 0-2 to Wigan at the resumption of the Championship, but went on to narrowly survive relegation. Since then we have completed a full season and again successfully negotiated another relegation battle- just. The interesting thing about the Wigan match was the strength of the starting eleven, arguably stronger than anything Corberan could have named this season??

Wigan avoided relegation to the bottom division by 1 point. They were looking at a 12 point deduction for the upcoming season but I presume they have avoided this with Phoenix 21 taking over the club. Small margins and all that, we aren’t doing too bad really.

Another thread that raises several discussion points - including the team management of the Cowleys, the 2019/20 recruitment policy and squad strength, the progress of Grant and ESR since leaving Huddersfield, the use of loan players, the loss of Schindler and not least the punishment meted out to Wigan; one which continues to punish the club and their fans.

I think the absolute key to avoiding relegation has to be ‘injuries’..... now either we were cursed last season or the training regime was total professional negligence at it’s highest. Whatever, we simply cannot afford a repeat. The Championship is one helluva tough, competitive, and unforgiving League and I’m not sure a club like Huddersfield Town can pass their way to glory in such an environment. There will have to be a steeliness about the whole team, a box clever thought process, and hopefully the Uk type players that have come in adopt a brick for brick, boot for boot, and bottle for bottle attitude when up against the likes of Preston North End among others. There’s no point in trying to play like Manchester City and get relegated. There’s still a bit to go to see whatever coming’s and goings take place and we’ll have a better idea then. One thing for sure... it’s Huddersfield Town so it won’t be boring !
