Long post alert. First off... ...But all that said, I still wish him well. That's a great post. Free speech Vs making people uncomfortable and unwelcome on a social media platform is a complex area. From a personal perspective, I am fully supportive of any rules to ban homophobic and racist comments on this forum and any social media platform. Opinions are opinions though, and you should be free to discuss them in a private conversation at home or down the pub with your mates. Otherwise, we are getting close to '1984'. As a runner, I dislike dog owners. I accept it's a generalisation, and I appreciate there are considerate owners out there. But over the years, I have been bitten a couple of times and tripped a number of times, and on the whole owners do not apologise for failing to keep their dogs under control. Why is this relevant? Only because, I would be free to abuse dog owners on this and any social media platform without censure. And many dog owners are very sensitive to criticism in my experience, and easily offended. My question is a philosophical one. Why am I not allowed to abuse someone's sexual orientation or religion, but I am allowed to criticise dog owners or people with ginger hair? NB. I don't think I should be criticising dog owners or ginger nuts or homosexuals on a football forum, and would be happy for all that to be in the rules.

Okay, given we've already pretty much discussed that he is never going to go back on or allow himself to be educated on his views, and everyone knows he would certainly not apologise for them, and also that he still continued to post inflammatory content despite repeated warnings not to...how would you personally deal with it? Genuine question as I don't see what other option a forum admin would have in those circumstances. Delete Politics and Off Topic. Wouldnt just solve him, it'd starve the site of about 75% of arguments. Alot get carried over from that into here. Without wanting to rubbish the idea straight off the bat, there are many posters who frequent both boards who are able to keep discussion within acceptable social boundaries, whilst still having opinions that may be considered beyond the pale by the majority. Everyone is responsible for their own actions and as a grown adult with (in his own words) a well above average IQ, Otium will have known the writing was on the wall for a long time. He chose to carry on swimming against the tide however, so honestly what other option was there?

I don't think I should be criticising dog owners or ginger nuts or homosexuals on a football forum, and would be happy for all that to be in the rules. The rub is the interpretation of comments regarding sexual preference, religion or race. The use of a fact can upset some. If we cannot use a fact in a debate because someone may be upset or deny its relevance to the matter, there is no point in the debate. Denying debate or question is easier than making the argument it seems and has become the weapon of choice for many here. When those people are, in the future, denied their freedom to debate or question it probably wont even register with them that they enabled this to become allowed. It will be those now cancelling them at fault. In the land of free speech for those who say what you like and deny the facts you dont like, most of us will become the wrong sort of person with the wrong opinions eventually.?

The brief answer to your question is that dog owners haven't had to put up with being oppressed by society for decades or more because of being born a certain way. They haven't had to run daily gauntlets of abuse, haven't had to cover up who they really are for fear of violent reprisals etc, etc. Abusing someone for the colour of their hair shouldn't be condoned at all, but I can't think of any examples where ginger people have been shunned by the whole of society or treat as second class citizens (or worse) because of their hair colour.

Will this forum only be truly happy when everyone agrees on everything and all the characters are banned? i used to look at Datm everyday and post, nowadays I forget it's here,,which fucking numb nuts complain to admin over words on a football forum, obviously we dont want threatening behaviour and down right racism homophobia ect,but I thought people were allowed an opinion. So why don't the offended fuck off and start a forum for people that don't like to be offended? didnt you lot 'fuck off' and start your own? characters, opinions are all great and weve lost a lot. but writing stuff that might deeply affect a young town fan is not something i want to see on here from anyone, character or not. to say being gay is 'a lifestyle choice' is down right homophobia

Generally I would say that the greatest protections should come for the minorities who have faced the most historic persecution and who live with the cost of discrimination day in day out.

The thing is, Captain, not one of them have ever promoted that viewpoint either to me directly or via any of their social media platforms. How many muslims do you know personally that OPENLY promote those views? Can you possibly provide me with any evidence of one person that you actually know who does? If you can then there may be a discussion to be had about it. If not, then I have to wonder why you keep drifting down this particular road? So on one hand you have one individual bloke on an obscure forum who 'might' have his opinions viewed by a gay person. On the other you have a religion (s) that you know actively promotes that viewpoint to millions of people and you know suppresses the sexuality of hundreds of thousands of gay people. We'll silence the individual,, but the mass promotion of this sexual intolerance can be ignored because they only promote it in their own religious group? You know many muslims.. why dont you ask them if their views tally with otiums? Your argument is like living next door to a family who have swastikas in their windows and you hear the sound of recordings of hitlers speeches drifting over the garden fence,, but you arent going to be concerned that they're nazis because they haven't mentioned it to you. I drift down this road because its an outrageous anomaly in what is happening here. If we're banning the views of an individual, then lets ban religion too, as in terms of scale and effect, the two are not even on the same stratosphere. A quick reminder to you about what the Bible says: "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them." (Leviticus 20). So it's not just an issue with Islam. Just as there are Christians who reject that, there are Muslims against homophobia. Here's a facebook site you might like to follow: www.facebook.com/MuslimsAgainstLGBTHate/

I've blown out so many jobs because people think it's okay for their rottweiler to sniff my bollocks whilst I pull cables from one room to another, despite being told to lock them away prior to my arrival. "You wouldn't lock your Nanna away, why should I do the same to Bessy?"...."well mate, my nanna might not be perfect, but she sure isn't gonna lick your face after eating a load of her own shit and vomit for starters" ๐

I take notice of his football posts - not because I always agree with them - but he has his own style, stimulates debate
I donโt know enough about the background to what he has / has not said historically
Iโve seen the homophobic comments copied on here which heโs supposedly said - If he has said those on this forum then theyโre indefensible

It does tend to spill over or a spat that someone has had gets carried over, not just with Oti. Why mix the two on a football forum, they simply don't go at all Up to press you've been here barely 2 months. 103 posts. TWENTY SEVEN about otium ? Really ? Also don't you think maybe you should get your feet under the table before telling us to delete whole boards off this site? If you don't like it stick with talk of the town . Simple Last year I happened to mention you had nearly 50,000 posts and you threw a pissy fit at me, whatโs it got to do with you, blah, blag blah. So why is it acceptable for you to not only go through his posting history but dissect who is mentioned ? Play by your own rules.

Over 40 on a thread about him, not directly for him. Are you usually this way or do you inherit being a fucking knob after a few thousand posts? Funny you thinking because you've been here longer, your say is better than those that are quite new. That makes you a knobhead and a reason people are put off joining this site. You wanna wind it in really, you're a grown man on a high horse in a fucking forum. Well you can't say I didn't give you prior notice Reported me I guess. After being called a knobhead, which you are. After antagonising me for no reason, which could be seen as victimising if this sites anything to go by. Previous to this, I've had zero interaction at all with you, you've just started to provoke. Makes you a knob and if you can't see that or admins can't see that, God help them. If I get a warning for calling someone trying to troll or victimise me, who I've never spoke to or said a word to, there's something very wrong
