Seem to remember Maynard saying we'd beaten off quite a bit of competition to get Sorba. I'd love to know who those teams are... He was supposed to join Charlton at the start of last season but the deal fell through, bet they're kicking themselves for not getting it done now.

There was a good sized portion of fans that were sure Rhodes was the answer. Probably some being the same ones who will slag off the recruitment team in the next breath. But how could so many rose tinted spectacle wearers be wrong? P.s. This post is in keeping with the told you so-ers. Don’t think anyone can comment on Rhodes until he’s played a few games. Surely, even on here! Why not? We always speculate on signings. Just because he has a load of credit in the bank from what he did years ago doesn’t mean we can't question the logic. He's not done anything for ages and his style of play and lack of athleticism seems completely unsuitable for our system. I'll be delighted to be wrong, but I suspect at best he will be a very handy substitute.

I’m just making the distinction between , say him and Ward for example. Criticism of Ward is totally justified because he’s played a few games and found to be totally ineffective.

I don't think anyone is criticising Rhodes, he hasn't done anything wrong at all. The questioning is of a cash strapped club offering a 3 year contract to a player who for the past 5 years has been out of form and is the wrong side of 30

Not sure whether it’s some of the numbers he’s unhappy with, the English flag that he’s covered or both, but it certainly looks like he may have confirmed his international aspirations...

Yeah nice to hear from two guys who clearly know what they're on about. Very true about us not having the striker who might really take advantage of the service from Thomas and lads like Koroma. Doubt we're unique in being a side that would want a better striker, but its pretty glaring for us.
Maybe the kid Grant from Ireland is the one? Seems to have a good scoring record even though he wasn't an out and out striker. So could he adapt? Sorba was more of a striker for Borehamwood but plays out wide for us so who knows. Or the lad from West Ham if he's given a go? Wards contribution last few outings has been so little, you might swell give these lads a go IMO.

That was good analysis, well researched. Jeez, not half. They are so more knowledgeable and insightful than the average pundit (inc ex footballers), journalist.....and Town fan than comments on Twitter or Facebook.

Something that was said re Coventry that resonated with me was the bit about their midfield having a combination of graft and creativity. I think its somewhere that Town could certainly improve on. We have CMs who are capable with the grafting in midfield (Hogg particularly hardworking but you could also argue that High isn't a creative midfielder, O'Brien is the closest we have to being a creative CM but is very much in between the 2. Holmes now usually plays wider and also isn't an assist machine) but do we have any central midfielders that are creative and can unlock defences from the centre?

My O'Brien comment was more that he does the hardworking but also knits defence and attack together a bit more than for example Hogg. I think our midfield lacks a proper creative midfielder.

I sort of see him eventually replacing Hogg, rather than taking one of the other midfield roles, assuming he can mix it up a bit. Imagine High collecting the ball from the CBs and starting our attacks, rather than Hogg. PS - not bashing Hogg, his strengths easily outweigh his weaknesses.

Just putting it out there.
I think Thomas has genuine football talent so I wondered if he could be brought into a number 10 role and play him more centrally?
If Rowe was fit this might be easier to do but in general terms I think it might be worth a shot.
Views?

No harm in playing him centrally whilst this is the situation.

Playing with and against better players can only help him.
It's a credit to his attitude and work ethic.

Must be due an improved deal soon to be sure we have reflected his value and don't get exploited by any Prem teams that fancy him. Yes, his deal runs to the end of 23/24 with an option but I'd suggest by then end of this season we should look to reward him, assuming he's proven not to be a one month wonder.

The lad is a relatively new lad to championship football and he certainly will have ups and down and his call up to the Welsh squad his a great honour. The best advice is ignore both the hype and tripe from media fans etc get your head down and keep working hard you have a great chance to become a established player all the best, utt
