Joking about smearing shit on a person's door because they are black (let alone actually doing it) is racist. What happened to Dawn French & Lenny Henry was racist, utterly disgusting & I expect that most (if not all) people on here & elsewhere would condemn it. Joking about smearing shit on a person's door because they are screwing over the club we love is not racist, unless the guy's skin colour is a motivating factor. As an aside, I don't advocate smearing shit on any other player's doors (jokingly or otherwise) regardless of the amount of melanin in their skin. I accept claims that I am as thick as shit. I freely acknowledge that I'm not particularly bright, so you're going to have to explain it all in very basic terms. But I'm also (as you've already attested previously) open minded. I'm educable. So educate me. Here's your platform. Personally, I don't think you're thick as shit, but I'll accept your invitation to explain my position anyway. First, anyone who's serious about understanding the relationship between fans and players should at least consider the views of the players themselves. It's clear that professional football players in the UK, both black and white, believe there's a major problem of racial abuse of black players, both online and offline. If those on the frontline are saying there's a problem, my inclination is to respect that. I interpret comments about dogshit on the door of a player who is black in that context. Second, people on here have given the example of kicking as a racially neutral act. Four white guys after a night on the piss see a black guy they've never seen before and give him a kicking. Four white guys after a night on the piss see a white guy they've never seen before and give him a kicking. Both acts are wrong. In my view, the first act is aggravated by racism. Third, while I would never recommend any player reading a fans forum, and hope they do not, I imagine it's possible that they do. If I were Izaak Mbenza, or any of the black players at the club, reading a post about putting dog shit on Mbenza's door, and nobody batting an eyelid about it, I would not feel good. I would feel personally threatened. Fourth, while I completely understand the frustration over the Mbenza situation, and share in it (albeit for me, it's mainly the club that's messed up), and while I know that white players get their share of abuse, I have been a fan of this club since 1978, and I have never heard anyone talk about smearing dogshit on the door of a white player as a means of hastening their departure, "jokingly" or otherwise. Please stop, please. |

I think I, like the vast, vast majority on here don’t care whether our players are white/black , gay/straight/bi, Christian/Muslim/atheist or even if their bins are tidy. We just want good players who are committed to the club.
How this thread has been brought into discussing any of those above aspects is beyond me. If this isn’t off-topic , I don’t know what is.

Here's a thought; Why don't we put this down to experience and accept it was a big mistake by the club.
We offered him the contract and we decided to extend. There are, sadly, plenty of footballers prepared to pick up wages for sod all effort. As fans it stinks, unfortunately it's the culture that's been allowed to flourish.

In @bermudabarnacle 's defence, he has every right to share his opinion and defend his stance when challenged on it. Even though I strongly disagree with him. Both on the racism thing and the request from admin to discuss it on the main board.
There's an argument for sticking it in Politics & Current Affairs, but I can't see that he's done anything wrong.
