I don't buy Christmas cards, waste of fucking time so I doubt I am on anybodies list, thankfully, but Merry Christmas just in case I forget as usual. I worked at Hallmark for 18 years, I was sick of the sight of Xmas cards 😁 Were you at Bingley Road or Dawson lane? I was at Bingley Road for 7 years back in the late 80s,early 90s.

One of Hallmark's many culls. What was that card place called in Dewsbury? I used to have a gf that "translated " all the americanisations into English for the cards. Were they rivals?

Mill Street East. Called UK Greetings now. The Uk branch of American Greetings which is an even bigger company than Hallmark. And Hallmark is HUGE. Once went to Kansas City where they're based and the internal phone directory was like our old phone books you used to get off BT.

Americans are just nuts. Was over there yrs ago and found a ‘Happy Boss’s Day’ card in K-mart or the like.
Obviously had to buy it, then got a few of us to sign it piss-take style before presenting to the boss…
It took an equally piss take style pride of place on his desk for a while. A long time since I’ve had a desk of my own in an office, which I’ve not missed TBF…

Hallmark was/is the biggest privately owned company in the world, they paid £186m to take over Unique Images. We used to have to watch videos where Don Hall Jr, the founders grandson, would talk about the company. He always reminded me of a slightly effeminate Richard Whiteley

That's the one.. Mill Street East ? Or maybe Mill Street West. I once worked on there once upon a time I think it was both at one point. My wife used to work there part-time on an evening in the mid-eighties. Most of the work was packing cards in the new place on Mill Street West but occasionally she went to an older building over on Mill Street East.

I'm trying to think back but I think it was the same thing where I worked one summer. It was a gear transmission place and basically I had to move the contents of one warehouse over to a new premises using a fork lift truck

Pretty sure Geoff Hutt worked there for many years when it was Rust Craft / Carlton.
I can remember the Don Hall Jnr videos.. telling you what a family company it was with a family ethos and how you had joined the 'Hallmark family'. One particularly cheesy, cringeworthy one where a disabled girl in a wheelchair was buying a card for her mum with the predictable soft piano soundtrack to accompany it. Sort of stuff Americans love but we cynical brits just piss ourselves at.
All the Hallmark family stuff lost its impact somewhat each time they laid a load of people off just before Xmas!
In Kansas City they were crazy. Everyone of them real company people who regarded it as an honour to work for the company. You started with 2 weeks paid annual leave and 'earned' another week each time you'd served 10 years. So by the time you were heading towards retirement you were getting the 5 weeks I'd been getting since joining at 18. That pissed them off a bit!

When they laid some off in Kansas in 2014 they paid them 3 years salary and their pensions and anything else they wanted, we got the govt minimum. They even reduced the pay offs to anyone that got a new job during the notice period (one lad I knew took another job and gave up his redundancy pay despite having over 25 years service) On the Brits v Yanks bit, the Kansas bosses came over and weren't happy about some of the humorous cards, they had to buy some tabloid papers so they could try and understand the British sense of humour 😀

We had an American visitor to our offices years ago - the day after North Korea were being aggressive again. I remember him laughing for about an hour when I showed him the headline in The Sun ( San, if you’re a Southerner) “ How do you solve a problem like Korea”

They have depots on Mill Street East and West.
Mam's worked there for over 25 years now, first at MSE, then MSW and now she back at Mill Street East.

Geoff Hutt did indeed work there, my mam got me his autograph and he was well chuffed that someone my age (early 20's at the time) still remembered him

Bloke behind me going mad when the subs were made...settled for the draw blah blah blah, they were a bit odd i admit but how well it turned out eh, im sure it was all planned by Carlos. ::)Turton played a big role in the winning goal so good for him.

I prefer Rigatoni myself, Penne for everyday use… Not sure that one swallow makes a summer etc., but playing a small part in the winning goal might do his confidence some good.

I think he’s had far too much stick. Dependable enough for a clearly 2nd choice right back. Works hard, tries to keep it simple. Gets done by quality wingers, but so do most Championship fullbacks. Absolute gem of a cross for the winning goal tonight. What more do people want, honestly?

Even though I thought we deserved to win. Chuffed for turton. Taking far too much flack for my liking. He was brought in as back up.

Mostly, my heart sank as I saw what I viewed as a defensive substitution, to cling on to a draw in a game I felt we were capable of winning. As for Turton specifically, I can't fault his work rate or attitude. Therefore whether I rate his ability or not (& tbf I've not been hugely impressed with his early contribution), he will only get support from me.

I thought similar; thought they were bizarre, and then immediately imagined the reaction on here if we'd have lost. I reckon it would've hit peak anger, with comments along the likes of 'clueless, that was always gonna happen', just with a lot more insults and profanity 😄 Instead, almost silence 😄

If folk hide or don’t put any effort in and generally look disinterested I get it. But he’s done non of those. What gets my goat is when he gets singled out when the whole 11 have been dreadful like it’s all his fault the others were shite.
