Premier League and Championship clubs have been asked for expressions of interest to pilot safe standing areas this season. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58648153Would be interested to see which clubs take part. The South stand is ripe for it.

A waste of money imo. Most away fans and some home fans (south stand) routinely stand up without any problems. Why waste thousands/millions putting in barriers?

I think the barriers will make it demonstrably safer and as such more likely for standing to be formally allowed, step in the right direction if you ask me.

I would like to see it in the Kilner, South stand and North lower.
Plenty of seats in the Riverside and North upper for those that want or need to be seated.

Man City and Chelsea have been putting in rail seats already. The Spurs new ground has them too.
Can’t see it being allowed unless you have rail seats so needs a big investment if it is to happen here. The south stand would be perfect for it.

I suspect the majority of fans today would prefer to sit.
Safe standing in the South stand would be plenty IMO - all the Home area & the upper half of the away area

Good stuff.
Will stop the arguments at games when people are complaining about others standing. If you want to sit, go to the seating. If you want to stand, go to the safe standing.

What about those of us who like to do a bit of standing and a bit of sitting?
Seriously, about time and the South Stand lends itself well as it can also include away fans.

Waste of time and money.
All-seater stadium are mandated in the Championship and above. Standing is already allowed. There is no law which compels people to USE those seats. Ground regulations compel people not to 'persistently' stand at football matches in the Championship and above.
The stupid, expensive, unecessary and oppressive rail seating is a way of introducing a sanitised terrace area whilst still meeting the requirement to have all-seater stadiums.
Nobody has been injured specifically due to standing in our seated stands, such as the South Stand. Therefore, it is ALREADY 'safe standing'.
The only step forward that would have any point would be to remove the requirement to have all-seater stadium, update the ground regulations so its clear which areas 'persistent standing' might be frowned upon or encouraged, and then think about reintroducing traditional open terracing with occasional barriers in some areas of some grounds where there is a demand for it...similar to what we used to have at Leeds Road and lower league and below clubs continue to have safely today.

The South Stand is wank guys. No offensive to anyone who's got it going but we don't even have half of it, and you can't see anything in the second half which in general is the main half for drama, the half where you want to attack the home end. I'm on the verge of going bank to the Kilner to be honest. Or, they could add in a totaly new stand at the North stand, rail seated, and declare it the new Cowshed. We'd get more money from away fans then also.

However, if you want to stand up but the standing area is full, then you're either going to have to sit down reluctantly, or you'll have people telling you to go to the standing area.

Safe standing in the North Stand in addition to the noise from the Cowshed End would be decent.

I doubt it will happen at the JSS, as we already need to find 9 million for repairs.

That would be a cheaper option and you could increase the capacity without the need to extend the stand. The Hillsborough disaster was as a result of fencing and nowt to do with terracing.

One less person that’s going to stand there looking like a lamppost and not get involved and makes room for one more person that wants to be there. You won’t be missed.

(but, I agree - especially as the game plan seems to be 'keep it tight and technical for as long as possible, drain the opposition, and then score when they eventually lose concentration'...without looking I'd guess most of our opening goals are very late in first half or into the second half this season...so you'd think it would make sense to have the less raucous first half playing down to the FM Stand, and then suck the ball in with noise in the second half. The danger of course is a tedious opening 35-40 mins can totally kill the chance of any kind of atmosphere in the second half).

I’m getting on a bit but no need to be like that to someone that does like a good sing song ;-) Just trying to say that overall it’s a shit offering. Better off having the whole of the end we’re attacking second half. There could Be a good solution with the new ruling on safe standing

Bizarre argument.

I think we'll see the North lower replaced by a new standing structure, there must be a reason why the club were asking for season card holders in that area to look at moving for this season.

I doubt it will happen at the JSS, as we already need to find 9 million for repairs. We’re planning to save a few bob on the strip out works. We’ll host the Neil Harris and Razor Ruddock testimonial game and ask the West Ham and Millwall fans to bring their best behaved supporters… Another one where I’m a bit meh. Have we had any major incident in the last 25 years that would suggest what we have carries any significant risk? Hillsborough wasn’t what it ended up being primarily due to standing on terraces. It was a combination of poor policing, exacerbated by the fencing.

I think any repeat of the policing, stewarding and behaviour of fans at the Euro final pose a far greater risk than allowing any kind of standing within stadia. I know that that game was, relatively, a one off but it shows how quickly things can break down.

I get that when you are behind the goals you can only ever really get a gist of what is happening when the play is in your half of the pitch,, I liked the North stand more than the South,, maybe it is because you are closer to the pitch in the north.
