Mate is an Arsenal fan and pointed out how we both have a massive game tonight....
Apparently on this very date the process of Herbert Chapman moving from Huddersfield to Arsenal happened......
'16 May 1925: Leslie Knighton, Arsenalβs first manager at Highbury, departed to make way for Chapman. It was 23 years before Knighton wrote his autobiography which remorselessly criticised Sir Henry Norris, using a range of allegations which have since been found to be utterly false, and yet are still propagated to this day.'
Hope Herb is shining down on us!

A lot of tributes on social media for one of the greatest ever football managers who tragically passed away 90 years ago today, probably Town's best ever manager who 100 years ago won the Division one title for 1st time having won the FA Cup 2 years earlier........If Herbert had not fallen ill watching Arsenal's 3rd team in freezing cold weather then we can only imagine what more he would have gone on to achieve..RIP

One of the best, for sure but not in the conversation for "the best". There is no conversation. We've won five major trophies in our history, Chapman won four of them.

Other past managers worthy of mention/recall;- Arthur Fairclough/Ambrose Langley....both in season 1919/20. Promotion from the old Div 2 (runners-up to Spurs)....the club's first promotion.....along with a Cup Final (defeated by Villa). The first(?) team from a lower Division to make the Final. Cecil Potter...delivered the 1925/26 Div 1 hat-trick season, following Chapman's departure to Arsenal. His only season. John Fowler Chaplin....following Potter's departure, led Town to Div 1 runners-up spot in 1926/27 and 1927/28. He also took Town to a Wembley Cup Final (lost to Blackburn) in that second season....so close to the League's first Double!

What sort of Town supporter doesn't know it's three titles, and like ducks, all in a row?

Can't help thinking if someone else was claiming that as a major trophy we'd be laughing at them. Those managers mentioned did a "good job", flipping heck Jackson and Macari to name a couple did "good jobs" I think those above may have slightly exceeded that...

In my time Mick Buxton, not old enough to appreciate Ian Greaves but Buxton put pride and attacking football into the club. Without Buxton I would never have fallen in love with this club and never fallen out of love with it since.

Once had a heated discussion with a chestwanker who was belittling our trophy count. When I listed ours vs theirs ( which is almost identical) he trotted out about half a dozen runners up πππππππππ. I asked him to show me the runners up trophy π

Was sacked by Town in April 1929 after finishing a dismal 16th place & only reaching FAC semi final (no mercy shown back then), in vain Town almost succeeded in luring Herbert Chapman back away from Arsenal with many press reports saying he had accepted & was going to resign. Bare in mind HC was the highest paid football manager in the world at the time, some serious money was on offer to him from both clubs......Clem Stephenson took over from Chaplin another fine player/manager serving Town for over 20 years (13 as manager).
