Olympiacos signed James Rodriquez and Marcelo, multi-millionaires on the way down from Real Madrid, this summer. How that fits with appointing a coach who got the most out of Ollie Turton and Danny Ward last season is beyond me. Given how long it took him to get a tune out of our squad, he's certainly not a "firefighter" type coach who would get a struggling team out of a hole. Ergo, I certainly don't want him back right now.

This reads like he’s been there ten years, not ten weeks.

He said: “After that promotion (with Leeds), I received a call from Huddersfield and I spent two seems with the team until this summer. I put an end to the contract that linked us because I wanted to aspire to a club ambitious in sporting achievements, and that was the reason why Olympiacos arrived six weeks ago.”
A quote from Carlos to the spanish media (AS in Spain) from the NewsNow site. Seems to say we weren't ambitious enough for him, whatever that means.

It's all a load of crap from Carlos
How many other championship clubs have been in 2 playoff finals in the Last 5 years??
Any club in this division can get a shot at promotion with the right guidance,,and that doesn't mean spending millions..just the right set of players keeping good form over a season
Karma!!
Too big for his boots

seems he felt like a much bigger club with much more money was a better fit for him. Now appears he is not good enough for them

His stock was inevitably going to fall this season if he stayed, simply because last season was such an overachievement, coupled with a lot of luck. Carlos was right to leave, not because there's anything wrong with this club, but because for his own career he ought to leave while his stock was as high as it was likely to get. The timing was lousy though. Within a week, maybe a fortnight of the PO final would have made a lot more sense.

I don't think it was a comment about the "smallness" of Town. I think what Traum was referring to was the perceived overachievement by a group of players tipped (not just by pundits but by a lot of people on here and other sites) for a relegation battle. If you remember last pre-season the majority were slagging off our signings, league one shit, MK's reserve keeper, league one here we come, etc.

You were expecting 3rd place last summer with a squad that had looked to be in free fall for half a season being supplemented with a few freebies? I'd also add that Wembley aside we got the rub of the green far more than you'd expect. How many times did we get more points than we deserved vs how many less? You seriously think replicating last season was likely? Really?

I 100 percent think we can achieve promotion again!!
I never take any notice of pundits as they inevitably get it wrong
How many on here had Rotherham to finish rock bottom this season...there not doing too bad are they despite sheff weds player pinching off them
For me personally being a stable championship club comes first and then hopefully we get the odd season where we either go up or lose in the playoffs
Other clubs may spend big short term and then the investors pull out and leave them in the shit with financial fair play troubles etc!

I completely agree. But I 100% didn't think it would be this season after selling LOB, Toff and Pipa, plus Levi going back. I thought we'd be languishing mid-table, even more so after the first few signings. I'm hoping with the late defensive additions we can start climbing the table, but before we signed those (plus appointed DS after Carlos screwed us) I would have laughed at anyone suggesting we'd be competing for playoffs again. And before anyone jumps on the Carlos screwing us line, he did, no matter his reasons he screwed us big time leaving when he did, whether DH didn't back him or not, whether you agree with the assessment of DH's broken promises or not, his timing screwed us royally!

He absolutely screwed us!
He wasn't making demands when we were nearly relegated the previous season
It's about trying to build something isn't it?? As long as we stayed competitive in this division then I think everyone would have been happy.....and people would be saying..hey what a great job carlos is doing at Huddersfield
I firmly believe maranakis tapped him up after the playoff final and he went for the money
And no English clubs of Towns stature will be ever offering him a job anytime soon....if they do and he takes a job then it will prove we were right about him and he,s just a mercenary
His fellow countryman Narcis has showed far more class anyroad

The life cycle of a manager can be anywhere from 3 months to 30 years. They will follow money because they don’t know which end of the scale they will sit on We are just a job to many many many people who will be employed by us, but for us poor fools who “support” us then we are much more than that. Nowadays the majority of players play for the name on the back, not the badge on the front. And the same is true for managers. While some will hold certain clubs closer to their heart, the club is just an employer to many I’m rambling now but you get the point.

If he hadn't been so negative in the play-off final where we didn't have a single shot on target, then maybe he'd have got the backing he was craving by winning the game. The two penalty shouts we had, only came after he'd decided to bring on the in-form Russell, who should have started the game.
I have no sympathy for him. He jumped ship despite the club keeping faith with him when he could easily have been sacked the season before and he knew the score financially when he joined the club, and that the policy was to develop from within.
He'd have got even less financial backing had Hodgkinson still been in charge.

If you said to your bosses I need x,y,z to do my job properly, and those promises wernt met.. would you think "oh well it's now too late. i'll stick around anyway, at the detriment of my own reputation"
or would you think... "i've given them the chance to deliver what i needed, they havent. my stock is high, i'll go find another job"? anyone who answers the first is kidding themselves. He didnt owe us anything nor do I think he 'screwed us over' - we simply couldnt match his ambitions. I dont think it comes down to his pay cheque either, as he would have been in a good place to negotiate.
Carlos' best time to leave, for his own career, was right after the playoff win. Why would he waste time not getting a proper preseason at his new club? This suggests he gave the club a chance to match his ambitions and we missed out on targets.

I'll rephrase. It wasn't inevitable. It was extremely likely. Even if we'd kept Toff and O'Brien, repeating last season's feat was a very tall order. The point is that in the interests of his career it was best that he left whilst his stock here was as high as it was ever likely to be.

I thought I made it clear in my post I think it's his TIMING that's screwed us big time. I wonder if Carlos would still be here if DH had spent the £2m+ while he was still manager, sorry head coach. However, I still believe the fat Greek prick tapped him up, Carlos went to DH saying he'd been promised the job if/when Martins left and what could DH offer him to stay. DH then told him the situation was the same, no money without sales, etc etc and Carlos decided to see who exactly would come in and who would be sold. Seeing the (at first) seemingly crap replacements being brought in he THEN decided to take the FGP up on his offer. All speculation I know, but even with all that the timing of him going screwed us up big time.

Coaches just don't walk out on clubs after a good season because "their stock is high" - especially when a club hasn't changed it's recruitment strategy at all since he joined. Let's face it, his stock wasn't that high either - a poor season followed by a really, really good season - hardly going to have big clubs queuing up for him.
Fact that he then went to work for an unpredictable Greek owner with a very dubious reputation and big, big shiploads of money who, by pure coincidence of course, he had been in very close proximity to only weeks before says it all.
Not tapped up? I mean, come on.

Obviously it wasnt ideal timing I just dont really blame Carlos for it, or have much bad feeling that some people seem to have. Nor do I necessarily think the club should have bowed to his every demand - if we simply didnt have the money then fair enough, i guess. As disappointing as it is... both went their seperate ways and that's that. The club's real mistake ws appointing schofield. That screwed us more than the timing of Carlos leaving.

Yeah I don't think we ARE that far apart in our thinking ritchieI think appointing DS was probably THE biggest fuck up of the whole charade, no matter who's to blame in the whole mess. He should have been kept on as part of the coaching team, told he'd be next up in the continuation model, but got someone THIS TIME who had a bit of experience. Even if that was just to mitigate the short turnaround and truncated pre-season I believe it would have been the right choice rather than promoting DS too early. No blame whatsoever attached to DS; who wouldn't take the top job even if they thought themselves they weren't ready? My new job is certainly a step up from my previous and I've no experience at all on the Transport Manager side of things and am learning as I go along, but I certainly wasn't going to turn it down because of that. It's just I have time to learn as my job is only scrutinised by my boss, not by 16000 fans in the stand and the other thousands on social media

Lengthy interview on Sky, interesting but basically said he didn’t think we could get promoted and that’s what he’s interested in.
Clearly wants another Championship club he thinks can go up.

Seems a smug comment from an inexperienced manager/coach. Was lucky he didn’t get sacked by us for nearly getting relegated, granted last year was a good year, then he gets sacked by a Greek team after a month or so. Don’t think he’s in a position to pick and choose top clubs as of yet. You’ve to earn that right.

And the way he set us up in the final is the main reason we lost, even if we were subsequently robbed by corrupt/inept (delete as applicable) officials. He's been a manager (in the UK) for two fucking seasons, one good (albeit shit football) one terrifyingly bad (albeit with an horrendous injury list) and expects to pick and choose his next employer? Even in Cyprus he wasn't Alex Ferguson-esque. Did okay at Ermis (6th, then 2nd) but finished 12th out of 14 in his next job at Doxa.
