News like this, for me, trivialises the whys and wherefores of where our club stands and what's happening. I'm absolutely gutted. Rob Burrow and his demise really hit home to me, and this ramps it up even more so. A legend of my time watching Town, a talent, a hero, and a good bloke. When I lived in Dewsbury and he did too (in the houses built on the old hospital) he once drove past when I was heading out to my car in my town shirt. He slowed down, stopped, wound his window down, and we chatted for a minute or so. He was a legendary drinker in Dewsbury/Batley Carr. Correct mids, it was well known he liked a drink, seen him in the woodman down Batley carr, and half cut on his arse on the dancefloor at the Frontier , bloke who i know lived next door to him when he lived in Dewsbury, said he was a good neighbour.Bless him and hopefully he stays strong for as long as possible. It's going to be a difficult 'watch' but it will bring more attention to a truly horrible disease.

That just had me in tears. What a player Literally just stroked the ball into the net. I wasn’t watching as much in those days as I played Saturdays, but every time I saw him play he was class.

Do we only ever get bad news?
Truly brilliant player for us.
Who can ever forget how they felt when we found out he was leaving for our rivals, Ipswich.
Hoping he avoids the worst of this disease for a long time.

Awful news on a day of bad news elsewhere, as others have said.
Loved watching Marcus in the blue and white, that Palace game will live long in the memory.
I hope he and his family are getting all the support they need. All of the Huddersfield Town family is with you.

Jeez awful news - looks like a horrible disease that up here claimed the lives of Celtic’s greatest ever player Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Johnstone (as voted by the fans) and also Rangers’ Fernando Ricksen.... both tv programmes up here dedicated to both these players were a bloody difficult watch indeed...
It’s scary to even think about this but very best wishes Marcus - we are with you every step of this journey and Huddersfield Town will be with you in everything you need and all her Terrier and Terrieress fans also -

Just been telling my lad how, at the age of 13 at Wembley, Marcus Stewart was the first opposition player I came away wishing we’d sign - he was head and shoulders above anything on that pitch that day.
I even went and got myself a head band for when I was playing! Chuffed to bits when he signed, absolutely gutted when he left.
Stay strong Stewy lad, absolute horrible news.

Superb player, great character and one of my biggest disappointments as a town fan is that he could have transformed our club if we as a club valued him properly.
Really hope that we are able to give him a rousing reception in the near future to show our appreciation

The first opposition player I ever saw and instantly fell for. Can still remember the excitement of literally jumping out of the bath when it was announced on the radio that we had signed him and running down stairs to tell my family the news. Pretty much every time I played footy with my mates between the age of 14 and 30 I'd cut inside and announce "Marcus Stewart at Wembley" as I tried to replicate the shot of his that smacked against the woodwork. Whatever this horrendous disease does to him to me he will eternally be the amazingly talented headbanded youngster we all saw at Wembley and could only dream of one day signing. Top flight superstars aside (Ian Wright, Alan Shearer, Matt Le Tissier et al) there were a few before him. Jason Bowen at Swansea the year before, and that young lad at Blackpool called Trevor Sinclair. But yes, there was something special about Marcus Stewart, even before we signed him. Someone higher up said that we didn't appreciate him until he'd gone. Perhaps he moved in different circles, but I appreciated him whilst he was here, as did everyone I spoke to. I've been a fan since 1987, and up until we signed that Australian bloke in 2016 he wasn't just the best player I'd ever seen for us, he was streets ahead of whoever you'd have put 2nd. It's debatable whether the best player in my time was Aaron Mooy or Marcus Stewart but for me I'd choose the latter. To see him go on to become the top English goalscorer in the Premier League (ahead of Robbie Fowler, Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand and Michael Owen - not to mention Thierry Henry, Dwight Yorke and Paolo DiCanio from overseas). The best bit though was that he was better at creating chances than he was at putting them away. A truly special player, and an absolute privilege to have watched him play.

Different players and it’s Mooy for me. But can still remember the day we bought Stewart. Was it 1.2m. It was a proper wow moment as he was as good as I’d ever seen At Wembley that day against Bristol

One of those special players who seemed to be able to slow down time when he got into the box. We’ve not had many players who were worth the admission fee alone but he was one of them. Balled my eyes out when I heard we’d sold him. Absolutely sickened me has this.

Tremendously sad news. The best player I've seen in a Town shirt. Absolute class, and his partnership with Wayne Allison under Jacko was gold. That period was very special in its own way.

Yet more shit news! Not the most prolific in my 40+ years of watching but definitely the best striker we had during that time. Mooy is a very close 2nd as a player but Stewie was very special, an absolute Town legend for me. Stay strong Marcus.

Shocking news, wish him and his family all the best.
What a special player he was, an absolute star. Played football like he was in the school yard, always seemed to be having fun; a natural. Perhaps he might have been even better if he was playing in this era.

Get a bit emotional watching that. Probably cos I watched most of them goals sat next to my dad who has recently passed. What a player, still haven’t had a striker as good as him, only Rhodes comes close.

My all time Town hero.
Has anyone any idea where I can get a shirt with his name on from when he was with us? I signed up to do the ‘Rob Burrow Marathon’ in Leeds early next year months ago (an event to raise money & awareness of MND) and can think of no better way to do it than running through Leeds in a Town top dedicated to Marcus.
Do Town do retro kits from that time? If not, I guess it’s a case of trawling eBay, even if I need to get it printed somewhere myself.
Unless anyone has any better thoughts?

I have the Panasonic ones you could borrow, if they fit you. Xtra Large. No name on the back, but sure the club could sort that for you. Flying into Manchester tomorrow, so could take one with me and hand it over at the Wigan match on Tuesday.

Teddington Ted I think it was the Pony one with the massive collar if that helps you search for it. Got one, but I still wear it, along with the beigey away one. Think I've got every kit (including the pink, er sorry cerise one) but still wear each and every one of them, whichever is closest to me in the wardrobe lol Although every one of them is huge on me now, not as much of a fat knacker as I was then Edit: Yeah DutchTownFan that's the one. Mine are also all XL, despite only being a M now. If Ted wants to meet me in Hecky somewhere he can borrow one, but like you no name on the back.

Also have the Pony one, but think that's the one I asked an Andy Morrison sized shirt in the club shop and got an XXL, which is too big for me.
Flying in for the Preston match too, in october and going to London a week after that, so we can work something out for the handover.

Really sorry to hear this news.
I think Stewart still has property in the area and visits regularly, I'm sure Town will be inviting him to a game as special guest and hope he feels up to it, so we can all show him our appreciation.
That montage video is fantastic.
