Having looked at the QPR match thread and seen an almost unanimous view that football should not have been called off i thought i would assess the general mood on DATM

How is it not showing respect? At what point are you happy that we've shown respect? Two days, five, 2 weeks? The queen could have been honoured properly at football matches and the last night of the proms. Opportunity missed in my opinion

Would that extend all the way to next Saturday as well if the funeral isn't arranged before then?

Opportunity missed in my opinion Apparently theatre and comedy shows will proceed as the Queen stated “the show must go on”. Kids were both looking forward to their u12 and u8 matches too this weekend which have also now been cancelled as a “mark of respect”.

Disagree entirely. Life can continue without it being disrespectful. People then can make an individual choice on whether to attend or not.

I don’t understand how those saying football should go ahead have any lack of respect. I’m going to a wedding, should I cancel going? On Sunday we are most likely going for a walk in the Dales, should I cancel that? My daughters mate is having some disco party this weekend, what about that? Is it just sport that is lacking respect if it goes ahead? Where is the line drawn?

You should sit in a dark room and weep instead, maybe whilst sticking pins in yourself to prove how great your loss is…. Otherwise you are a heartless, uncaring oaf who doesn’t understand that ‘feelings’ are what is important in todays world. Shame on you. Ps. Diaannnnaaaaaa! ( said in a wailing pathetic voice to convey my personal loss is still strong after 25 years! )

Sport does not need to be cancelled, the day after my mum passed we went to watch Town, she was a Town supporter and we devoted the match to her memory.

There is no respect for a full life of 96 years who carried on regardless to the end of that life, in stopping people having fun and carrying on with their lives. Said before, day of death and the Funeral, of course the country comes together in sadness and respect and cancelling other events is a given. We are being instructed on how to react and how much we should be sad or miserable. They are telling us they retain the power and ability to school us on our reaction to the lives and deaths of those above us. If you choose to grieve and remove yourself from life after anyones death, then its a personal decision, that decision in full has been removed. If you are not going to be respectfull, we will at least cut down on your ability to carry on living a normal life, we will try to make you a bit more miserable at least. The Queen would be appalled.

Reason why its cancelled- No. Such a sad day, but to put things on hold is a bit ridiculous. Not everyone will want to mourn. People who do, can do in their own way and how they choose to.
I am only happy about it as it gives town extra time to get fitter and get players more up to speed.

People should be allowed to show their respect if that's what they wish to do. But there will be more than enough official events to do that over the coming days. I'm sure the Queen would acknowledge that people need to get on with their lives. It was a day that's been inevitable for a while, today will be quite sombre, but the world is a different place compared to the last death of a Monarch.

The only certainty in life is death. This is quite a mentally unhealthy reaction to it. People should be allowed to show respect in their own way rather than being told how to.
The way we are being told to is ridiculous in itself- you must be too distraught to do anything constructive with your weekend, but you're all expected in work.
It's not just top level football but grassroots and juniors too.

I’d have been happier with the cancellation of Saturdays games if it followed precedent but I believe after the death of her father George VI that weekends games went ahead?

Definitely not.
Will all the cinemas, casino's, etc, be closed aswell?
Ridiculous decision.
Do they expect us all to just sit at home & mourn all weekend as if a relative has died?
I'm sad for her family & friends but if the last few years have taught us anything it's that life carries on regardless.
If you feel too upset to attend that's fair enough but a respectful minutes silence would have been sufficient & cancel the games on the day of her funeral.

I'd gladly show respect by observing a 2 minute silence before kick off and having a day off for the funeral. But dont really follow why it's ok to work in a factory, but not to watchbor play football on Saturday.

Knowing our luck if the season finished now they would take current league positions into account and we would be relegated!

That was a perfect and beautiful tribute to your late mother orinico - and while I didn’t go to a Hibernian match (her team) after ma wee granny passed away I was very glad to get back to the distillery for a week on 6-2 shift 28 years ago this very week ! She slept away peacefully Thursday 1/9/1994.. we did the wake old style - her bedroom was the viewing parlour for a day and night stream of visitors, drams and music and munchies in the lounge below for all that called at her cosy and homely wee house... Same on the Friday till evening when we took her to the church.. Saturday was the funeral - plenty whisky, biscuits and cheese at Nerabus cemetery as is the centuries old tradition there and then the pub wake at Lochindall Hotel - her favourite pub ! Sunday was photos at the flowers of her resting spot followed by a family dinner to celebrate her 81 years and plenty drinks at her favourite Lochindall Hotel - and yip I was glad when the 6-2 shift on Monday 5th Sept came round quick as it was the first wee bit of closure and normality ! (RIP Granny Lack) Bella 🥃 - xx -

But dont really follow why it's ok to work in a factory, but not to watchbor play football on Saturday. Because your betters know football has some power, this puts football money, back under the older wealth. They know tens of thousands of the proleteriat would have gone to football, this proves they can stop that happening, you are subtely being told your position under the money. Nothing to do with respect for the Queen.
