You could be right. Didn’t we win the game the season after, Mark Lillis 1-0? I’m thinking 83/84 season. The return match at Leeds Road was marred by trouble. Leeds fans stopped the train at Deighton and there ensued 3 or 4 hours of mayhem. They came in the Terrace in numbers but got properly battered. They then tried to dismantle the away end. It was feral stuff that day. The match at Elland Road was Winter time I’m sure and the darkness on the walk back to the station added to the threatening atmosphere. I got hit on the head by a bolt in the ground and then had to endure been stood behind that massive gate with their thugs lobbing everything but the kitchen sink over at us. You had to keep eyes up at incoming missiles; it was like fucking Agincourt. Quick edit: it was Boxing Day 1983! We lost 2:1 but I wonder if that’s where the Boxing Day line comes from in Hark now hear, the Huddersfield sing?
