I'd like to see Holmes trying a Tommy Cowan at Oakwell special, only needs a glance off a defender and it's a goal... Not that the clueless officials like we always seem to get would give it of course. He can't throw it far enough to reach the goal. The other week after he was subbed Turton took a throw, without a run up, and it went as far as Holmseys "long" throws do. It might work at Luton, sadly we've already played there

but the season before that it was shit because tiny Huddersfield got promoted. TBf The division seemed much stronger that year illustrated by the fact Newcastle & Brighton got promoted & haven't come back. We survived a year and deserved promotion. Some big clubs were in the league that year Wolves, Villa & Leeds included. I see absolutely nothing to suggest the league is as strong this year based on the teams we've played. Don’t think anyone is going to run away with it, it’s tight at the top and considering we’re nearly a third of the way through the season, the winning points total might struggle to get to 90

Haven’t seen any mention of Ondo yet. I usually have a bit of knowledge about the young lads but I’ve never heard of him.
Big lad but didn’t really get a chance on the ball.
What type of player is he?

Agree it isn't a "strong" league this time around. I think it'll be as competitive as usual though. Birmingham are a bit of a surprise package so far, as are Reading. Even Hull, as poor as they were today, have some decent players in their squad and might well improve if they get the right coach in place.

What type of player is he? Don't know if its because all energy had been sapped out of the game long before he came on, but he looked VERY quick and full of energy and running. But the one time he had the chance to do something, he utterly cocked up what seemed like a simple bit of control when he'd have been away down the touch line...probably thinking too much about what he hoped would happen next, but to be expected really. He did exactly what I guess he was asked to do, run around and give them something to think about...certainly looks an interesting prospect, but doubt he'd have got minutes if we only had a one goal cushion.

I enjoyed that today - we aren’t going to go from being really poor to world beaters overnight, but in the last two matches there has been much more energy, character and goal threat.
Leadership is what we needed, and hopefully what we now have. The technical stuff and patterns of play will come, the longer MF has with the lads.
What I really liked today was the attacking intent. Sitting second bottom, two senior CMs missing - a lot of managers would have made negative / containment selection choices. I like how MF went attacking and made attacking subs too.
A step in the right direction. And I thought Rhodes was excellent today.

Trusty is 24, strong and not pushed off ball like Mbete. Colwill was a freak to be so composed at 18 in that position.

Pretty poor first half but we did improve 2nd half and were deserved winners, camara, helik and Rhodes were superb for me. It wasn’t flashy and by no means perfect but I did think we looked like we had a structure and players knew their roles which is an improvement.

Cannot actually believe some of the dross I am reading this evening. We have won 2-0. In the position we are in right now, you take any win. We will play better and lose. People saying they have not seen anything to suggest we will get out of the bottom 3 is ridiculous. Look at our squad today. Jackson, Camara, Rudoni and Sorba all 23 or under. Ondo, Diarra, Bilokapic and Spencer on the bench too. Players missing - Hogg, Pearson, Tino and Kasumu. More or less in our 1st 11. Russell and Simpson too. Lots and lots of positives today for me. We looked a yard quicker when pressing. We won a lot of 2nd balls today. We nullified Hull, their main chance we got away with, but other than that nothing. Some fans expect too much too quick. I said after the Reading game, I would judge us on today in MF 3rd game. I like the improvements so far. I don't understand how come people can enjoy a game when all they do is witter and moan. If you want perfection, there is a team in sky blue 40 minutes away where you can go. 100% this. Eladdy Rockwall. We have a boss with fight and steel. Glad to see some on here at least have some steel and leadership too.

MF is obviously aiming that at someone! Whoever it is will struggle to get back in unless they follow the rules yet I am surprised that he was airing his washing in public.
The match today was perhaps a better measure of how well MF will do this season. Hull were no great shakes but neither were Wigan and we managed to lose to them. I think we have enough to avoid the drop as there are at least four or even five teams worse than us. Next week at Rotherham will be interesting because this match two weeks ago would have been a defeat now it is open to question. Win at Rotherham and a draw against Preston and we are up and running.
On today's game I thought we were sluggish in the first half despite the goal but improved a lot in the second. In the end perhaps that elusive third goal might have settled us down and we were unlucky not to get it at one point, but three points and a clean sheet marks a huge improvement so things are definitely looking up.

A great result and win today and absolutely just what the doctor ordered ! - Even more critical given that Blackpool and Stoke picked up shock wins v Watford and Sheffield United and Birmingham surprised Bristol City and WBA took an unexpected point off Luton Town but at least we gained on Coventry so that was good...
It makes for an interesting match at Rotherham on Saturday now for sure... it is a little disappointing that our rivals down there continue to pick up unexpected points but I guess that it’s what we do ourselves that is the main thing...
But yeah - I’m gonna enjoy this given the way the season has went - I’m a bit rough today after a big day out yesterday, but that was the perfect pick me up and I’ll taper off the weekend with a beer and two drams for each Town goals today !

Agree with most of whats been said here, anything other than a win today would have been in disaster territory, town have got players to cone back, how far off are hogg and Pearson?
The 3 at the back always worry me, we got away with it because of the players we had last year, now to me a 4 or a 5 at all times is necessary or better teams will come through the channels. Hull were shit today, but let's not kid ourselves, town need to be tighter and we are getting 3/4 youngsters up to speed in midfield which is where the problems are.
Anyone who thinks ward and Rhodes are "past it" needs to see whats going on with this team. It's in transition and Rhodes in particular is earning his money as senior pro.

Second half was very professional, 3 centre backs Camara Rhodes and Sorba all had very good games for me impressed with Jackson too. It’s not perfect I genuinely feared for us had we lost today, home games are going to be vital, no the atmosphere was flat but with the decisions of the board of recent it’s not surprising, today will take a chunk of pressure off.
Maybe I should do the Rotherham match thread too 1 for 1 😂 (and no I aren’t claiming credit)

I think that will have been aimed at Jon Russell. Dropped completely from the 18 at Luton and same today. Only going to be one winner in situations like this in my opinion, and that’s MF. These players have been mollycoddled enough.

Head Coach completely out of his depth. How on earth we won that game is beyond me. No positives. Hull had far better players on far bigger wages and it showed. We are down dead and buried as some have said for a while

Can't understand why people going on about Scott High as most on here were slagging him off last season and not making first 11 for Rotherham The vocal obnoxious twatty minority you mean 😃

First match at the ground since the awful EFL display against Preston. Missed the first 13 minutes (not my fault) then very concerned for the next five. After that it became a generally enjoyable watch. Lucky to go into half-time ahead and clearly MF very unsatisfied with first half. Should have scored a couple more in the second half but far more confident at Town's prospects this season than I was a few weeks ago. No standout performance (although Rhodes, Helik and Jackson generally impressed and even Duane at times) but no dire performances either. Maybe Sorba should have been substituted but luckily he calmed down sufficiently to stay on the pitch. Interesting post-match comments from MF - don't think he would have selected Frankie Worthington!

Great win.
Teams who go down don’t find such a level of basic formation, control and application.
It may have been attritional at times but it’s a great foothold after a season of free fall so far.
4pts & 5 goals scored in 5 days is a major improvement on what has gone on since July.
Long may the curve of improvement continue.
