And just goes to show the bullshit that Real and Barcelona were spouting about being skint and needing a government handout not so long after Covid. If you're struggling stop paying such stupid wages and cut your cloth accordingly!

Interesting to see if Harry Kane wears his “one love” rainbow armband today with the supposed threat of a booking (which is ridiculous, of course). Do England stick to their principles and risk their captain and goalscorer being sent off (obviously he becomes a target with an early yellow card)? To me, why bother running the risk for a token protest? We’re taking part in it, so got to try to win it. FIFA had to count is at a political gesture I suppose, after the furore over the poppy on England's kit being political. But it's only as political as FIFA's official armband, they're both about anti discrimination, it's just the one Harry Kane (and captains from other countries) was going to wear were much more noticeable. Ludicrous decision, but as many on here (including myself) said previously they're all meaningless gestures. The only meaningful gesture if they REALLY gave a shit would be to boycott the tournament. None of them were gonna do that though were they!

Why are Linekar, shearer etc actually in Qatar and how much of our licence fees is it costing for them to be there for the next month? I mean what did they do in that punditry that they couldn't have done sat in a studio in Manchester ? I appreciate there’s double standards Q’s here, but did you ask this when they all went to Brazil & other foreign world cups. Or is it another cheap shot at the BBC? The last two world cups (and recent Olympics and other sporting events) I said the same thing about how many there were out there and it being far too many. The advances in broadcasting and satellites means there's no need to have an army of people actually there any more. As anchorpeople, Lineker and his cohorts have no need to be there. You possibly need one reporter (or two or three depending on the travel time between matches playing at similar times) actually there for the matches, the rest is perfectly viable from the studio.

And there he is, making a comment about climate change while watching the World Cup in Qatar. The hypocrisy is epic.

Stopped some Welsh fans from entering the ground wearing rainbow coloured hats 🤨 Try again, stopped some Welsh WOMEN wearing rainbow hats. According to some press the men were allowed to keep theirs!

I think most bucket hats were multi coloured in Welsh colours. The woman who had her hat removed was literally the rainbow colours like the armband that Harry was supposed to wear

All the reports I read said that a number of women were ordered to remove their rainbow hats, while men were just waved through. But even if it's just one, it goes to show the Qataris are SO sure of their righteousness that they can't have a shred of dissent! I've said that to religious people (Muslims and Christians) for ages. If you're so sure of your beliefs why are you so afraid of alternate views?

Hes an absolute bellend is Linekar. he's like the embodiment of woke hypocrisy in human form. Spotted this years ago. Wrote off Twitter and Match of the Day nearly a decade ago and my mental health is better off for it. Thing is he's getting worse and it's not only Lineker. Jenas is lined up to replace him when he's gone.

Probably one of the more non-critical reports then. Or more likely a report that wasn't trying to CREATE an issue?

If she's some part of the Welsh FA was she there in an official capacity or as a fan? Surely some parts of the media aren't trumping up charges or pushing boundaries to create a story? Surely not!

I earlier read about an Argentinian female reporter having her bag stolen, she said police have asked her if we find the culprit what punishment would she like handed down, five years or deportation. If that happened live on TV here, she’d get a letter in the post a few days later saying that the case has been closed due to lack of evidence. I don’t agree with lots that go on over there but us taking a leaf out of their book on policing, crime and punishment, would be a step in the right direction in my opinion.

Surely the real hypocrites are the people who slag off Qatar, then whoop and cheer when Saudi Arabia win, like the fans in the pub I'm in at the moment watching on TV.

You got Argentina in the sweep by any chance 🤔 Argentina or Germany losing to a "lesser" team is funny in the same way Leeds losing to one is.

Is this the article you saw: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-63710435If so then the other media outlets have sensationalised it as per usual. Although where she gets the idea security were "heavy handed" is beyond me. Heavy handed is being chased by baton-wielding riot gear-wearing coppers, not being politely asked to remove headwear

Its interesting that if the topic of islam in the Uk comes up, a word that is generally always used to support its presence and influence is 'diversity'.
Yet when it comes to holding a football tournament in an islamic country, the word generally used to criticise that country and its attitudes is 'diversity'.
And its generally the same people saying these two things.
If the World Cup is truly 'diverse' then doesnt that mean it has to include people who dont think like the liberal west when it comes to certain things? Or it isn't being very diverse!
Seems the word 'diversity' can be applied and removed to suit whatever and whoever youre trying to defend or attack at any given time.

She forgets she is in a different country with religious laws that actually are not her concern other than the world cup is being played there, which she does not have to attend. If it is her intention to push the laws of another country as far as she can then crack on but ffs dont moan about the outcome. I dont blame the religion for the world cup being in Qatar, there are many suspects but not the law there. I dont think any previous hosts have been asked to change their laws to host the competition??
